Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by spirit on Apr 9, 2010 22:42:51 GMT 1, Some people use the old chestnut about not being allowed to express their opinions but thats just bull s**t! what they actually want is the right to abuse other people under the guise of free speech.
I don't think that's right personally. If someone posts something really good it gets praised (see that pixel video thread for example). If someone posts something rubbish it gets slated. Its all down to the quality of the work. There's quite a lot of slating on this forum but that's because there's quite a lot of rubbish.
I think most people think Mr Brainwash is a nice (crazy in good way) guy. But at the same time many of them also think his work is pants. They are not abusing the person, they are criticising the art.
My opinion is that while I like Mr Brainwash (from the little I know of him) I could never like his work because I believe the primary reason for it's creation is to part fools from their money.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 9, 2010 22:54:37 GMT 1, afr1ka, so you just like it because you think it is a neat idea (but possibly not well-executed)? okay, that's interesting. I am trying to get a feel for what people like about Mr Brainwash from this print without judging or indicating an opinion. Thanks! Anyone else like it and have a reason why?
if thats an honest comment then i agree with you.
conceptually his stuff is great, he lacks finishing skills though - but that will come.
banksy stuff was shocking in the early days, really shocking.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 9, 2010 23:18:30 GMT 1, oh come on happy shopper? dont see a concept.
the print is called generations. family generation pictures are always in that style and star trek generations was a massive tv show, hence why star trek has been mixed with a generation photo.
im not a trekky but even i got that.
hello....mcfly...

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by hollowsphere on Apr 9, 2010 23:18:49 GMT 1, so the idea he's conveying is.....?
That is what I am wondering as well. What does this say conceptually really? An archaic photo with the cast of Star Trek? Is that not the same sort of concept as putting cavemen in a modern advertisement? Humorous anachronism? Is that actually the point then of his work or at least an attempt to be funny?

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by boaty on Apr 9, 2010 23:19:54 GMT 1, I think the concept of a family portrait of the key Star Trek chararcters is a fab idea - I mean, these guys are historic! Someone may come along and execute on the idea better in the future - sure. For any crossbred MBW fans and hardcore Trekkies out there - this could be a hot item - all the best!

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 9, 2010 23:20:39 GMT 1, as above. some guys on here think to deeply about images.
banksy images consist of 2 things. the wit and the finish. nothing more.
mr brainwash consists of 1 thing at the moment, which is the wit....but the finish needs work but its an obvious concept.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by nex on Apr 9, 2010 23:34:24 GMT 1, so the idea he's conveying is.....? Humorous anachronism? Is that actually the point then of his work or at least an attempt to be funny?
I assuming that's it, from the discussion, he wants to make people smile, it's safe to say that unlike Banksy or Shep there won't be any political/social statements to the work. It is in a word 'simple'.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 9, 2010 23:42:31 GMT 1, am i right in thinking that some of the people here have not seen the film yet, i mean, MBW before that film was fuck all, i slated it. Maybe you should watch the film and without being judgemental, you can see that what he is doing is the next stage in an art world. street art is not dead... its just moving on.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by nex on Apr 9, 2010 23:43:37 GMT 1, the point isn't how much Banksy is involved but rather how quickly someone who was not even perceived as an artist months before could make over a million dollars from his first show, with the right publicity and connections in place. Freerange the show was well over a year prior to the film, the film just highlights what had already happened.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by boaty on Apr 9, 2010 23:44:49 GMT 1, as above. some guys on here think to deeply about images.
- difficult to think too deeply when it comes to a piece of "art"; many people buy art based on what it is conveying to them progressively;
- there are some pretty intelligent folks on here, it's innate to think deeply generally even about simple "matters" - hard to turn it off and on

I think it's a little more simple than that... fleece the buying public into buying something based on hype, and hype alone. Sounds like a social experiment ala Banksy and apparently it worked
