Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 9, 2010 23:49:33 GMT 1, banksy just told him to try the experiment that he basically created years before and its worked.
i just think banksy and mr obey were shocked and took the piss that something that took them years to achieve, he did basically in a few months. It does not mean he is a con artist, he just decided to do it his own way and to be honest, the images are hit and miss but the heart is there and he is part of the history of street art, particularly in the US.
Wait til the the film kicks off, would it be better marketing in the US to say its a MBW film rather than a banksy film...maybe.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by Coach on Apr 9, 2010 23:50:12 GMT 1, am i right in thinking that some of the people here have not seen the film yet, i mean, MBW before that film was f**k all, i slated it. Maybe you should watch the film and without being judgemental, you can see that what he is doing is the next stage in an art world. street art is not dead... its just moving on.
I watched the film. MBW came accross as a very pleasant fella, but not as a talented artist. At all. I certainly didnt get the impression that any of the artists interviewed were continuing to support MBW's artistic enevours. Didnt Banksy say, with reference to MBW's work, something along the lines of he always used to encourage anyone to have a go at creating art, but not anymore? c

you are taking it out the wrong context tho, its all tongue in cheek.

Except that MBW didnt achieve in a short period of time what Banksy and Shep have achieved over the years - simply because the quality of the work cannot be compared.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 9, 2010 23:54:34 GMT 1, i think people can get the wrong end of the stick here.
i am not saying that his work is good, its far from it. but its something that comes with time.
The reason why MBW is popular is because of the artist rather than the art, pretty much the same as what banksy is. could say the same about SF but his work is getting very lame of late. Maybe his team could do a collab with MBW. would not put it past them.
AND.. i guarantee that at the UK show, it will be equally as packed, the theme will be british culture and banksy will play a part. no doubt about it.

coach, i think the following of MBW in the states, far outweighs any other artist at the moment to be honest with you, we can argue it all we want but the fact is art quality to some people does not matter...they buy into the product. much like you might buy into a brand of cereal, it might not be any good but its because someone is there telling you its popular so therefore is good.
did that make any sense. probably not.

Free... don't believe the hype and don't kid yourself... MBW is known and HYPED by a small circle of LA & NYC hipsters and bunch of online poster geeks. He's not that well known outside of those circles/cities and is no where near as popular as Banksy and Shep. True story. I live here.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 10, 2010 0:12:07 GMT 1, amsterdam, i dont take any notice of hype. ive seen some very silly people buy some very silly art on here and have always sat back and laughed at them.
i bought a MBW as it was the classic image of the film that i enjoyed, nothing more. But he popularity is not going anywhere, so people might as well get used to it.

I dont for one minute dispute that he is popular - clearly he is - his prints seem to sell out quickly and there seems to have been a lot of people seeing his work in the show. He has his followers here. What I can't see is the merit in his work. It seems to me that, from what I have seen, the work has little or no originality, wit, skill of execution or just plain aestetically pleasing qualities - the art I like has at least one of those qualities, often more. I think we will just have to beg to differ. c

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by bullet on Apr 10, 2010 0:22:37 GMT 1, sorry, you are obviously not understanding something.
THEY ARE TAKING THE PISS as they are all good friends. are you really that literal.
The whole Mr. Brainwash show seems to be a performance artwork by Banksy, who found the people to help Guetta put it together. Even so, itโs clear that Banksy is a little unnerved by what he started. After all, Guetta has no art training and didnโt actually make his works himself.
Sitting hooded and blacked out in his studio, Banksy tells the audience that he used to say it would be a great thing if everyone did art. โI donโt say that so much now,โ he says.

Mr. Brainwash โข Generations Print, by Coach on Apr 10, 2010 0:41:21 GMT 1, just to liten things up a bit, I have a serious question: Can color blind people appreciate art?
Yes. My son is colourblind. It is quite bizzare to watch him take the tests, and not be able to see what you can so clearly see - it just means he sees what we see as a distinct colour as a different shade of another colour Does that make sense? Take green and red for example - we see them as completely different colours - he may see them as different shades of the same colour - but he sees all other colours as distinct different colours. That, however, is just my laymans understanding of it - certainly not a medical opinion - and I may be talking utter bollox! c

That's very interesting coach - it's often said that most successful CEOs etc are color blind - I often wonder if they see more clearly than we do.....they see the connection and connect the dots faster?.....dunno.....

Meant to add - and this does not mean that he cannot appreciate art - he just may see it a little differently to the rest of us, but as he has no idea how we see it, he know's no different. Even if you refer to this green bit or that red bit, it doesnt seem odd to him, as he has simply learnt that green is this shade and red is that shade of what seems to him to be the same colour. Again - just my laymans understanding.
