US ELECTION, by iAmCxxx on Nov 5, 2008 10:36:53 GMT 1, Congratulations to the Americans! There's a hell of a long way to go yet but thank god the people have spoken (and been listened to) and this is an enormous step in the right direction. Well done that boy.

US ELECTION, by funster on Nov 5, 2008 10:49:32 GMT 1, Congrats to America. I wanted McCain to win, but more importantly I wanted democracy to rule - which it did. Good result.

US ELECTION, by onemandown72 on Nov 5, 2008 11:16:42 GMT 1, That has pleased me no end. This is one of those rare occasions where I have my faith in the human race restored. At it's most basic level the American people have said we've had enough, we want change and we cannot carry on as we are.

US ELECTION, by Deleted on Nov 5, 2008 11:24:21 GMT 1, Well done US. Never thought it possible.
I want to celebrate with the purchase of an Obama Hope related print as a piece of history for my children. Probably too late I know, but if anyone has some old links to stuff please post.

US ELECTION, by skylarkin on Nov 5, 2008 11:26:44 GMT 1, When Obama came about around 18 months ago it was obvious that he had the persona to bring the country together. As an outsider looking in (but one who has been effected by one of histories most incompetitant figure heads) then to have a black president will do so much to show the world that the US is growing up. And it will do so very much to bring the multi-culture of America together as one nation, more than Bush could even dream of doing. And for Americans I say well done and good luck. For people that say the rest of the world needs this president than I sorry but I couldnt agree less. America has an agenda, and reguardless of who is its figure head is it will continue with it. I believe that the US will still be active in the middle east, and any moment now we are going to see a huge altication with Pakistan that could have major ramifications for the rest of the world. With the prospective of a recession looming then long term plans could make way for quick fixes, and quick fixes usually have dodgy foundations. I hope im wrong and that Obama comes in and rules with a rod of iron. Time will tell...

And this account from CNN
www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/05/us.reaction/
(CNN) -- As tens of thousands of people cheered Barack Obama's presidential victory at his home base in Chicago, Illinois, others were celebrating near his future house.
At least 1,000 people gathered on Washington's Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House late Tuesday night, shouting "Obama! Obama!" and "Yes we can!" Uniformed Secret Service officers were overheard, saying they'd never seen anything like it.

Barack the builder way better than sarah the moosekiller and joe the unlicensed plumber who doesnt pay his taxes.
Bring it, if you watched his speech last night you'll see how serious he looked. He knows he's got a lot of work to do, this isnt fun and games.
Can we fix it? Yes we can!
I'll check in with you in 6 months and see where you're at.

US ELECTION, by They call me Stephen on Nov 5, 2008 16:42:31 GMT 1, "4 more years, 4 more years..." ;D
it will be inetesting to see how things will pan out, it will be a long, slow process either way
i wonder what the press reaction is in the heavily republican or 'redneck' communities?? obviously everything over here is celebratory and hopeful for the future but would be interesting to read those who aren't happy with the outcome's opinion

US ELECTION, by fecam on Nov 5, 2008 19:32:41 GMT 1, Eh? Person A Earns ยฃ50 and pays tax at 20% which = $10 Persons B-E earn a total of $50 which = $12.50 each. They also pay tax at 20%. 20% of $12.50 is $2.50 so they pay $2.50 each. 4 x $2.50 = $10 dollars Person A earns $50 and pays $10 dollars tax Persons B-E earn $50 and pay $10 dollars tax between them is that not fair? No, what you are missing is the top tier who are making 40% of the wealth are only paying 20% of the total tax due on the $100 - the other 80% is being paid by everyone else. I tried to use a simple analysis to break it down and show the difference between what the wealthy are paying and what the rest of us are paying. of the total amount due. Let me try it this way, this way is probably more accurate. On $100, total tax due should be 30% or $30. Person A is in the top tier and makes $50 of that $100 and pays 20% of that $30 tax - thus paying $6 Persons B,C,D,E make the other $50 of that 100 and end up paying the other 80% of that $30 thus paying $24 Hopefully that is a better example.
No - still a terrible example!
