Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by otomi on Dec 11, 2010 10:20:34 GMT 1, Script written purchases are easy enough to by pass, just do what facebook does when you try and post a link and have the purchaser enter two words from a box to confirm theyre human. At least with an online release no one gets trampled all fans from everywhere get a chance to get one. Very poorly handled by pow. To even suggest they didn't think there would be such a high interest in the release is naive on their behalf.
I think they were aware of it - "Due to the inexplicably high level of demand for Banksy prints " from their website

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2010 10:23:13 GMT 1, The lottery will be fair. But the chances of winning a print are pretty remote.
Bang on Pez (as usual) - the lottery is fair.
It's also (my view) the fairest way of releasing under market value items unless they want to prefer in some way people who have patronised their shop from years ago and continue to do so. Commercially, this stacks up.
The fairest way to sell any limited edition piece of anything at market value is publicised auction, might not please all the people but it's fair.....
From commentary on here there seems to be a clear criminal intent by some sectors of the community and when there's this much money at stake this isn't surprising....
As NJR wrote, may be time to move on. It is, after all, a piece of paper and there's lots of others out there....

POW really have made them selves look amateur and foolish... Its obvious the demand for Banksy is through the roof... You have to applaud Faile really.. Lets admit it they dont have quite the same level of interest as Banksy but they handle the release of print etc fantastically.. I think POW could learn alot from them.. Especially as we have seen what a mess the queuing system is..
Stick to the internet.. and follow the same examples as faile.. Set a launch day and just leak them out. Flippers will always get some.. But hey... Aslong as the fans have a fair pop.. who cares if someone makes a profit.. Laz and many other galleries make a killing on mark up.. So why cant the small fish..
POW.. Pull your finger out.. And do a serious Rethink about release

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by I like pictures on Dec 11, 2010 10:29:18 GMT 1, The key word there Otomi is 'inexplicably' why do they think that? They know exactly how much interest banksy print releases hold and therefore should have been far better prepared to deal with such events. Simply telling those queuing that there is no release and their wasting there time please go home, if they chose to stay and nothing was released it was their choice, but for pow to release the print because of a queue is daft. Ill get a hundred people together and form a queue in the new year at there office forcing them to release what ever the next banksy print is if that's how it works.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by ABC on Dec 11, 2010 10:29:50 GMT 1, Don't people learn anything. The Queue madness is nothing new. I think the first time this happened was during the Micallef print release at Laz a few years back. There was a big fight and it turned really nasty, as usual a blind eye was turned by the staff. I gave up trying to get prints years from POW years ago, to much stress involved (proof is in this thread). I'd say 70% of queue don't have any art on the walls , more interested in being part of the "Banksy" money making scene.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by naughtyshorty on Dec 11, 2010 10:30:08 GMT 1, guys, there is no such thing as "fair" here, there's only the fairest of all available methods. each has its downfall and some worse than others. Bankys' aim is to get as many prints into as many genuine fan's hands as for the cheapest price possible. Quite simply, unless you are selling to only people who have bought prints before, and letting a small percentage go out on the normal market, this is going to be a near impossible task from now on..

I think the fairest method is a timed release for maybe 5 - 10 mins at the usual price. Or a lottery for just below the market value. €1200 - €1400 would put off most flippers, you would get a print from source, would still be cheaper than Ebay.

I was lucky enough to get a signed Love Rat back in 2004, and had a choice of others at the time. I've had chances of buying others on the POW site over the years but did'nt bother. I think its the best way and the only way to do it. There is no way i would ever que up to buy art, Banksy or not. Other great artists out there doing great things at good prices. My advice is get the new Insect folio, its a lovely little thing and take your chances on the lottery. The zx Spectum colour ways do nothing for me.

That way everyone that has registered eventually will get the chance for a print.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by mred on Dec 11, 2010 10:39:57 GMT 1, Was out on the beer last night and have just woken up with a hangover to find the print has been released and the normal chaos has occurred. But as many has already said with all the hype what do people expect, being a total skeptic the over the counter release IMHO is simply for publicity and with money to be made it is always got potential to get nasty.
Hope all the true fans are alright and get what they want, I for one was just about to enter the lottery but then though why? To be honest and at the risk of being black balled the image does not do much for me and I could not see it making my walls before a number of pieces waiting to be framed so in the words of the dragons I am out.

Sam always seems like a nice guy, but the rest are arseholes. You're lucky to get more than a one word answer to any question. Total jokers. They think they're so special because they work there.
Simple tickets would have sorted the queue situation... But they couldn't be arsed.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2010 10:42:27 GMT 1, Bang on Pez (as usual) - the lottery is fair. It's also (my view) the fairest way of releasing under market value items unless they want to prefer in some way people who have patronised their shop from years ago and continue to do so. Commercially, this stacks. The lottery enables, families, even individuals to set up multiple accounts and put in countless entries. At least when it's on line anyone person is only physically able to get one print. I do not understand with these flaws how people can say the lotto is fair? The fact that very few people here have been successful in the lotto certainly wouldn't back up that statement.
I'd wager there would be more that would back that statement up as being fair than there would who would say that arriving at Commercial St at 150th in a line and getting shafted is fair?
Lottery gives POW an opportunity to police multiple entries from 'same name' style e-mail accounts and IP addresses. Whilst I'd accept that a lottery does allow for some manipulation it's better (and fairer) than getting your head kicked in.
One thing's for sure - the current model is broken.

Just got home after a cold rough night and now completely utterly fucked off. Would easily have my Banksy now but for gangs of people who turned up to jump front of queue as they were handing out numbers and i narrowly missed out. Expressed my annoyance to Simon who was sincerely apologetic but feel completely destroyed by the experience. Sorry to the other forum guys who were in queue near me, Spanksy, Yapsey etc. Good luck in the lotto chaps!

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2010 10:46:44 GMT 1, It is going to be impossible for POW to get out of this awful mess, think ahead people!
why is it POW's fault? Why not blame the 150+ people who queued up at Berwick Street based on speculation? They were just as culpable for the mess, all making a b-line for POW's offices, some probably were jostliing because they believed because they were in the queue early doors at Berwick Street, they had a right to be further up the queue at POW.
I would also look at the 70+ pages of pure financial speculation on this forum also - the release wasnt about the art it was about the financial gain - and that for the considerable few is enough to fight for.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by ninja on Dec 11, 2010 10:46:59 GMT 1, sounds horrific. POW do want to try and get stuff into genuine fan's hands, but this year sounds completely unpredictable. anyone who was at NBG can tell u the atmosphere was completely different.. im sure there was a better way to handle the event, but even POW cant have predicted how out of control it got...
Of course they could. It worked last year because they managed the queue. Other releases by different artists with less demand than Banksy which have not been managed by the gallery have been chaotic. I knew it would be chaos, why wouldn't POW?
It would have been easily fixed too. One person available to hand out tickets before the info goes up on the web site. That is all it needed.
Some of the people who got burned last night were the strongest advocates of a queue over the past couple of weeks. That is not going to make happy reading for POW. It was always going to be busier this year if they did the same because it was a relatively easy way to get a print last year (show up before 3am).
Imagine how many would have been there if there hadn't almost instantly been more people than prints available. Scary to think how bad it would have been then.
Not sure what they are playing at with the smaller editions either. If POW are so keen to get art into the hands of people who want them then that doesn't make any sense at all. An edition of 1000 or more with four or five colourways would seem more appropriate. There would still have been sufficient demand, more people would have been happy and the value on the secondary market a bit lower. Remember it is the real fans who buy on the secondary market so an edition size which reduces the price on the secondary market to around the £1000 mark would seem to achieve all of POW's stated aims.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by smishdown on Dec 11, 2010 10:48:08 GMT 1, I wasn't in too bad a part of the queue as we were just around the corner so in a narrow path and everybody seemed to get along, a few fights kicked off ahead of us, not sure if it was people trying to push in or just pissed people but it did turn really nasty at times. Spirits were still quite high as after god knows how many head counts were taken we always ended up being about 160 so we were unite happy, but then at about 7 o'clock 2 fat gorillas in suits shout out they have the raffle tickets to guarantee a print the queue didn't matter anymore, all down commercial street it was about 10 people wide where everyone went round the side, then people getting off the bus at the bus stop right next to the front just jumped in then cars just pulled up an more people just kept jumping in the queue, started to get nasty again then as people were just trying to squeeze through as much as possible and I probably ended up about 25 from the front when the doorman said no more. So after 9 hours and patience I get fucked in the arse and for others they managed to bag themselves something they probably wern't even sure was until they were handed the raffle ticket. Fuck POW for treating us like that

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by ambrosiabaptism on Dec 11, 2010 10:48:41 GMT 1, Let's give POW the benefit of the doubt here and look at what they are doing. No Print is worth this kind of BS. Maybe they are trying to say - Stay at home and enjoy yourselves, have fun with friends and family and take a look at the crazy world of distraction this release/thread has created. Rather than a shameful mess of disrespect this is the spectical ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Situationist_International
I might be wrong
