NICK WALKER - Works Up For Mercy Appeal, by Harveyn on Jul 13, 2008 12:10:36 GMT 1, Hi S - Quite like the idea. There has been some great input by way of ideas for how the books are auctioned or raffled. Both Ged and myself have some thinking to do about how this process will be run and how the funds will be collected. The good news is we have plenty of time as the sketch pads will take 6 to 7 weeks to complete their journey.
In the interim if there are any London galleries who would be interested in showcasing the sketch pads please contact me.

NICK WALKER - Works Up For Mercy Appeal, by Harveyn on Jul 16, 2008 7:59:39 GMT 1, Looking fantastic Ged. Absolutely perfect way to start the journey.
Here is the email that went out this morning to all the artists involved. It shows all the dates that each artist will receive each sketch pad.
Hi Folks
Firstly myself and Ged would like to thank all of you for agreeing to take part in the Mercy Centre Foundation appeal. As you know it would appear that some money that was raised by Beejoir (Chris) did not make its way to the foundation due to the untimely closure of TLSG.
www.mercycentre.org/
The three sketch pads are now ready to commence their journeys and you will see from below you each have a week to produce two pieces in the one sketch pad you receive. We do not mind whether itโs a sketch, stencil or painting we are just simply delighted you have agreed to take part. During the week that you receive the sketch pad I will contact you to give you the next recipients address. At the end of the week all we ask is that you forward the sketch pad to that address and email me an image of what you have done. This will allow me to post pictures on the forum of your pieces as the sketch pads travel from artist to artist and drum up interest for the auction. At the end of the process the three sketch pads will be sold as three separate lots.
Can I also ask that the first two pages of the A3 sketch pads remain blank as Beejoir (Chris) has agreed to do one piece for each sketch pad which will be pasted in at the end of the process. Being based in Bangkok itโs just not feasible to post all three sketch pads to his destination. Also I think it would be good to leave one blank page between your work and the previous artistโs work (there should be enough pages to allow this to happen).
Please see the list below for when you are due to receive your sketch pad. Let me know if the dates in any way conflict with your own personal travel arrangements over the next 8 weeks.
Artist Week Commencing Date You Will Receive the Sketch Pad Mr Jago W/C 21.07.2008 Chinamike W/C 28.07.2008 Grafter W/C 04.08.2008 Rourke W/C 11.08.2008 Guy Denning W/C 18.08.2008 Jef Aerosol W/C 25.08.2008 Beejoir W/C 01.09.2008 Matt Small W/C 21.07.2008 Miss Bugs W/C 28.07.2008 Goldie W/C 04.08.2008 Mau Mau W/C 11.08.2008 Hush W/C 18.08.2008 Neverwork W/C 25.08.2008 Nick Walker W/C 01.09.2008 Beejoir W/C 08.09.2008 Brian Jones W/C 21.07.2008 Dale Grimshaw W/C 28.07.2008 Herakut W/C 04.08.2008 Case W/C 11.08.2008 SPQR (Matt) W/C 18.08.2008 WeLikeStatic W/C 25.08.2008 Beejoir W/C 01.09.2008 Ged (Paper Windows) has kindly done a cover for each of the sketch pads (See Above).
Once again thank you for your kind support in this appeal.

NICK WALKER - Works Up For Mercy Appeal, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 16, 2008 8:10:32 GMT 1, All 3 pads are looking set to be very very worthy prizes for the winners! Amazing job guys! The above gives a good feel for what a brilliant idea this was and in addition to the charity, there's gonna be a few very pleased forum members out there! Can't decide which pad I should fantasize about! Oh well, 7/8 weeks is long enough to give them all a go I suppose!

It's a pleasure to look at those lists of artists (now they are in groups), and decide which you might go for. It's a tough choice - they each look superb.

NICK WALKER - Works Up For Mercy Appeal, by Ged on Jul 17, 2008 18:51:16 GMT 1, Thanks guys for all your positive comments regarding the books.
Like Harvey has said, he'll be posting photo's of the books progression which, I for one, can't wait to see. Although I'm not expecting them to raise the amount of money The Mercy Centre Foundation lost out on because of the troubles highlighted in Beejoirs ARTCUNT site, along with those pieces kindly donated, hopefully they'll fetch a significant amount of money to help towards it.
So come on guys, stop spending and start saving......you've got a couple of months

NICK WALKER - Works Up For Mercy Appeal, by jonpud on Jul 18, 2008 9:10:23 GMT 1, No worries! Met up with Nick for lunch yesterday, explained what we were trying to do and he was more than happy to help!
We have to remember that some of these artists are constantly (and I mean constantly) hit for requests to provide work for charity appeals. Since Nick's LA shows he has had hundreds of requests for charity donations. People think that a blank canvas and half an hour of your time is nothing much to give, but if you times that by the amount of requests it becomes a thankless impossible task!
Obviously Nick is human and hates to turn people down, I understand because in my job I have to turn down charity requests every day (we have registered charities we support, Air Ambulance, McMillain Cancer Relief and the Deaf Blind League) He has agreed to do this as he wanted to help support the people who have supported him with an appeal they feel so passionately about!
I for one can't wait to see the finished sketch pads, just hope my pockets are deep enough to grab one!!!!

Cheers DP. All artists have received an instruction by email and by way of a letter that will travel with each book to send by signed for, track-able and insured registered mail. I also have all their telephone numbers and will be in contact with each one during the week they have been allocated to work on the sketch pad.

We are still working on the logistics but we'll post details once everything is in place.
In the mean time, the books have now been set free and are beginning their merry journey around the country
