UK Elections, by danvnuk on Oct 5, 2007 0:45:48 GMT 1, To be EVEN more controversial...
Way I look at it - they're all as bad as each other.
That being said, power corrupts....and the current Labour lot have been in power far too long, got used to it and have been corrupted by the experience, they honestly don't have a clue anymore..
They drive me up the bloody wall - it's all spin, spin, spin - if any party has managed to lower my already rock bottom estimation of Politicians, It's Labour. They've had their chance IMO time for someone else to have a crack at it, I don't think the Tories could do any worse.
Oh - if anyone watched Newsnight this week - and watched Paxman take apart the armed forces minister Bob Ainsworth (Cock) for trying to spin Gordon Browns latest bulls**t, you'll see why I'm sick of Labour. If it wasn't so tragic these morons are in charge, it would be hilarious.
(think it's still on the BBC's website for replay - first 6 mins worth a watch for a laugh)
Think this will work...
news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_7020000/newsid_7026200/7026284.stm?bw=bb&mp=wm&nol_storyid=7026284&news=1#
Next election, Colour me Blue. LOL

Agreed. So who is voting tory in this poll???
Actually my vote in the last two elections has been for the greens. I'm in a huge labour majority seat so my vote doesn't count. At least by voting green I can make some sort of protest about an issue I consider to be very important.
The electoral system in this country sucks. The winning party is decided by a few thousand voters in a hundred or so key marginal seats. It's no wonder the electorate feels totally disenfranchised.

UK Elections, by jipsy on Oct 5, 2007 8:46:52 GMT 1, I can never vote Tory. All those fuckers bred north of the border was unemployment, alcoholism and loss of self respect. My old man worked in the steel industry since he was a lad, he was a steel burner no more no less. Then Thatcher and her minions decided that closing down the steel works and buying cheaper, lesser product from China was the way to go (good for global economy). Within a year my dad and his co-workers were working on the assembly line in a Hoover factory for minimum wage. These were men that came home everyday knackered and sore but their job was their life, sadly all of these lifes had a price on them. Tory bastards. I know it's all history but there will never be forgiveness for such an evil and calculated crime.

UK Elections, by mcnuts on Oct 5, 2007 8:54:50 GMT 1, surprisingly, i am allowed to vote in this election. however, am i the only person who sees calling an election as pointless and a waste of money? It seems as this has been fueled by the media and jumped on by the conservatives.
Everyone knew when they voted for the war criminal Bliar that Brown would then show up. In fact, it may have been the reason may could stomach voting for him. But another election two years on? Waste of time and money.

UK Elections, by Strange Al on Oct 5, 2007 9:18:34 GMT 1, I too am a little surprised at the level of conservative support on a Banksy forum. Though maybe I shouldn't be, given how market driven the scene has become.
Interestingly this high level of conservative support seems to reflect the current mood in the country or at least that's what the opinion polls in today's papers would suggest. It's amazing what a difference a couple of days can make in politics. One hour long speech by a "trendy young" conservative leader without autocue and minimal notes, a few questionable conservative promises on taxes, and a badly timed visit to the middle east by Brown and all of a sudden a 10 point shift in the polls. How fickle the British electorate are and how easily manipulated by the PR machine.
That said, it's almost impossible to differentiate the major UK parties these days. The labour party have moved so far center right that in many respects the conservatives have been forced to adopt traditional leftist policies to have any hope of success. What's the world coming to when both the labour leader and the conservative leader are seeking to align themselves with Thatcher in an effort to attract voters?!?!

UK Elections, by mcnuts on Oct 5, 2007 9:26:17 GMT 1, well put JJ and that's exactly what throws me off of politics. Why bother voting for labour when you look at what they promised during the last election and then how they reneged on what was written in their manifesto. Did they say it just to get votes? On the other hand, the conservatives are slick and the young PR machine is much better and speaking to ppl of our generation especially with mainstreaming (or appearing to do so) green politics. That being said, and despite seeing little current difference between Labs and Cons I could never bring myself to support the Con party (though "new labour" might as well be blue labour imho (hey that saying is now copyrighted... i shoudl sell it ias a tag line to the lib dems )

UK Elections, by danvnuk on Oct 5, 2007 9:44:22 GMT 1, I'm not convinced that Cameron attracts voters - personally I think he's a carbon copy of Tony Blair. But, scrapping Inheritance tax and scrapping ID cards to spend the cash on Prisons/Police is always going to be a vote winner.
The thing is, I don't think any party has wrecked this countries faith in the integrity (hah!) of our politcians more then Tony Blairs (now Gordon Browns) Government, they've been caught out on numerous occasions- no one ever resigns or if they are forced to by public indignation, they're given their job back 3 months later when they think the publics forgotten - They've introduced Spin to ludicrous levels.
John Majors Conservative Govt was a disaster - but at least ministers actually showed a modicum of honour and resigned when they got caught in some compromising position.....Labour just doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks, cling on for dear life and spin their way out of any situation confident that the electorate will stomach it.
I just don't think I can stand another four years - I need someone else to bitch about LOL

UK Elections, by lesbianwednesdays on Oct 5, 2007 9:44:46 GMT 1, i thought i was just me! WTF is that lock jaw thing all about, is he just a massive f*cking coke head or something?
jipsy, i'm with nu, +10.
the tories are the scum of the earth, they will drive this country in to the ground just so long as little lord fauntleroy as his hooray henry chums manage to get even richer even quicker, to hell with the working classes. for all the bad that labour has done; iraq, immigration, human rights act etc there has been so much good. working family tax credit for a start allows so many families to be able to afford to go to work rather than stay on the scrounge, unlike child benefit it is fairly means tested.
knock gordon brown by all means and he may have been a lucky chancellor but he has steered this country through times of worldwide economic slowdown with little impact on this country. we've had ridiculously low interest rates for many years, maybe those who had a mortgage only 5 or so years before labour came to power might want to bear that in mind?
if the tories get in it will be a two-tier health care system - remember they want to take nhs money to give to those that can already afford to go private to top up the fee for the surgery they will bring back fox-hunting, one reason and one reason alone to give these antiquated pr*cks the finger . they will cut income tax, yaaaay! and in doing so cut sudsidies to young, working class families. labour have hardly excelled when it comes to social housing but the reason there are no council houses is because of the right to buy scheme the tories brought in. and then had the foresight to stop the councils using the money from those sales to build more social housing, f*cking genius!
as bad as labour are and the mistakes they've made, and the awful need to spin more than 'dead or alive', they will never be so bad as to warrant a conservative government. they don't give a s**t about you, or your brother, or your mum, or anyone. every man for himself and if you aint quick enough or there are extenuating circumstances as to why you can't trample all over others to get to the top then you too must lay down to get walked over.
sorry for being so grumpy so early but i grew up in the eighties, in a council house with my brother and sisters and my single mum. the thought of anyone else ever having to go through a time like that, and there were millions of us like that, makes my blood boil over.
congratulations on a constructive, non-divisive, positive thread, the definition of 'harmless fun'.

UK Elections, by carlito on Oct 5, 2007 10:16:46 GMT 1, I just want a party in control who help the least well off and make sure the rich pay the taxes they deserve to pay...not ensure loop holes you promised to tie up are never tied up because you're scared your donations may dry up...I just want a party in control who make sure pensioners have enough money in the Winter..I just want a party who makes sure there's a bed for you in a hospital...I just want a party who doesn't let the underclass grow and house ownership become the preserve of the middle and upper classes, with rich parents..is that too much too ask? because I couldn't give a flying f**k about the economy and interest rates if these basic tenants are dealt with...by a supposed working class party...
and this doesn't mean I'd vote Conservative because you just know they'll go back any help they've promised...

UK Elections, by corblimeylimey on Oct 5, 2007 10:54:28 GMT 1, No matter how bad the Labour Party got I would never vote Tory.
I'm with you on this.
Lets not forget that although in this poll the Conservatives have the lead (at the moment) they only have about a third of the vote, so Banksy can rest easy that the overwhelming majority on here don't want a Conservative government.

...yes...but even fewer want a labour govenment.
Gordon Brown is a crook. Did everyone on here know that he has sold off student loans to a private company that now charge 4.8% interest? What a good scam...get all students to take out loans at 2% interest then sellthe debt off to a company and let them charge 4.8%. What a joke.

apolitical? not a chance. but, if you mean by apolitical, having politics outside of the formal party system then i'd agree....
