UK Elections, by Richard on Oct 5, 2007 15:21:39 GMT 1, Seeing as most pieces are ยฃ1k + we aren't going to be claiming benefits to fund our purchases are we...
Ergo, we are likely not to vote for Labour.

UK Elections, by Daniel Silk on Oct 5, 2007 15:22:44 GMT 1, Torys lead with Labour close behind, on a forum dedicated to the work of subversive street artist Banksy, can anyone see the irony? It makes me wonder what kind of people buy Banksy and what they really think of his art and messages?
ahhhh, I dunno The political parties have changed a lot in the last 10-15 years, ya cant really compare it to the time of Thatcher and before its a completely different ball game now

UK Elections, by corblimeylimey on Oct 5, 2007 16:10:08 GMT 1, you on a wind up mike or what? what about dog fighting and bear baiting while we're at it? any c*nt who takes pleasure (they call it sport) in watching and animal destroy another animal in the name of entertainment is sick. f*ckin sick. license it all you like, so long as there are animals killing others for the gratification of a bunch of whack jobs i will be vehemently against it. -1 for you. I'm deadly serious mate... I mean proper licensed hunting, not dogs ripping up the fox, but dogs on leads finding the foxes and people shooting them cleanly. Nothing to do with animals killing animals, all to do with keeping the fox (vermin) population down
You're begining to sound like bourgeois landed gentry Mike, you shouldn't be allowed to own a Banksy.

Foxes regulate their own population and the number of them is fairly constant all hunting does is make them breed more. If it's all about vermin control why not go rat hunting ?

UK Elections, by curiousgeorge on Oct 5, 2007 17:23:02 GMT 1, Responding from a totally selfish point of view, i feel i did well out of the Conservatives..
1.Had the 'chance' of a half decent education 2.My family were able to get on the property ladder 3.After school, i went direct to college and excelled in my chosen field
Thus with hindsight i had lots of chances in my formative years
Under Labour, off the top of my head
1.Education system failing 1000's, school fields sold for housing 2.Had a nightmare experience with the NHS, was all that down to funding issues? 3.We became a puppet controlled by the U.S.A, fighting other people's wars while trying to hide the real reasons
When Blair was elected it was all Education and NHS, massive failings IMO. His one saving grace could perhaps be his work in Northern Ireland (along with the other party leaders) 'The hand of history is upon us'
Would like to trust Brown, i guess most go into politics with good intentions..jury is still out on him.
Cameron has recently been pandering 'middle england' with talk of cuts on inheritance tax etc, it's clear to me what and who he is trying to talk to.Thus he probably won't get my vote
As for what's best for the country, gut feeling would be to give Brown a fair crack of the whip so to speak.

UK Elections, by corblimeylimey on Oct 5, 2007 17:49:17 GMT 1, I remember hospital funding shortages under Thatcher, going to a underfunded run down 1960's school under Thatcher, and we were all very dispondent as we all thought there were no jobs to go to after school, all very depressing, meanwhile we could see the rich getting richer.
Now where I live (and used to live) has new schools and hospitals (under Labour) more jobs (under Labour) the only bad thing I can say about their terms in power is the shocking Iraq fiasco.
What's all the pressure for Brown calling an election, he's got another 2 years yet.

UK Elections, by corblimeylimey on Oct 5, 2007 18:01:46 GMT 1, I got involved in a political thread here before, and it really doesn't do anyone any favours, like the first thread I'm now abandoning this thread never to return, already lost respect (although I've not negged anyone) I don't like what I'm hearing, and apparently others don't like what I'm saying.
I think this forum should stick to the art, at least I'm going to.
I'll not be reading or posting in this thread again.

UK Elections, by Catwoman on Oct 5, 2007 18:16:33 GMT 1, ...I've been really interested reading this thread - the irony of a a conservative heavy vote shouldn't be lost on anyone, Im sure if Banksy had been old enough the streets of bristol would be littered with anti-thatcher comment...There is a great scene in the film 'This is England' where the camera pans around this estate and someone has written 'Maggie is a t**t' on the wall - I seem to remember a lot of that from when i was younger...
As someone who was a totally thatcher-child, born in the year she came to power, I cannot remember ANY rebuilding of public services, and education was only good if you passed the 11-plus and went to grammar, there were very very few areas where working class kids got good opportunities...and I see very little change in urban inner city areas now.
Tony Blair's style has ruined political faith in this country. At least, as someone said earlier, Thatcher stuck to her (often very very wrong) policies. Tony Blair and the Labour government has put in place intiative after intiative without any really vision - remember the 'Big conversation'? No? Neither did he.

UK Elections, by stuey09 on Oct 5, 2007 18:40:41 GMT 1, Given the fact that it's common knowledge that barring one or two, all politicians are utter wankers, it's a surprise that there is grounds for disagreement. Labour, Tory or any other party, I wouldn't trust a single one of them.

UK Elections, by finsburyparkranger on Oct 5, 2007 18:46:34 GMT 1, I hear what you're saying stuey but the greens are not in the game to gain power, they know they have no realistic chance of winning, in that respect i think they can be considered to be quite apart from the other nutters.
Come on guys whats the point of banksy's art if its not to question the world around us and laugh at its stupidity. Of course we should talk politics on this forum. I vote green because essentially however richer we can say one government made us or our family it is currently at the expense of an environmental holocaust that will cause huge problems for future generations. Endless economic growth with no respect to sustainability on a finite planet is going to spell doom. Labour and the tories are both leading us in the wrong direction quickly. Voting for them is one big waisted vote.
