Spore and Machism
And something from the archives. This is one of the those pieces which is often wrongly attributed to Banksy and which is actually by Dotcom and Slim. The piece went up in 2004-ish and this photo was taken a couple of years later. Since then it's been patched up a few times but is still going strong. If anyone hasn't come across this piece before it's right by the junction with the M32 and the piece depicts Michael Douglas' roadrage-inclined character from the film Falling Down.

And something from the archives. I appreciate not everyone loves a good tag as much as I do, so here's the last of those writers painting a big, beautiful wall of stampeding animals for a travel documentary for French TV.

Visit BRISTOL ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Feral Things on Jun 16, 2013 20:59:04 GMT 1, I suspect that this post is going to be so niche as to only be of interest to me, but never mind. I should start off by saying how highly I would recommend the book 'Children Of The Can' by Felix 'FLX' Braun, which covers 25 years of Bristol graffiti. There's some fantastic interviews with lots of Bristol legends like 3D, Vermin and Banksy. In his interview Inkie talks about painting at the Barton Hill Dugout in the late 1980's and says "We'd get the bus up to a remote train station and walk back down the train track into town, basically hitting everything on the way - trains, walls, the workers' huts, all the little electrical boxes. At one point I had it caned all the way from Clifton Down right over to Barton Hill, and out past the other side of Temple Meads."
So basically, I thought I'd retrace Inkie's footsteps from Clifton Down down to Lawrence Hill which is the station near Barton Hill. There's obviously nothing left by Inkie or TUB, but the pieces which are up along the train line are pretty representative of the last 10 years of Bristol bombing; Stubz and Demz, Dotcom and Mos, DBK and ADNS. Anyway, here we go...
Clifton Down to Redland
Redland to Montpelier
Montpelier to Stapleton Road
Stapleton Road to Lawrence Hill

If you've got any photos from back in the day I'd love to see them. Apparently Art-El might be putting on an exhibition of John's photos, or at least John's photos that weren't confiscated by the police during Operation Anderson.

Unwellcome Relatives: CageOne, Pen, Shabs and Lokey (painted at a small graffiti jam yesterday at the former Bridewell Fire Station)
My favourite Hall of Fame which is under 12 square foot in size (carved into the stone I can spot a Rowdy croc, a Cyclops hand, a Sickboy Temple, Sweet Toof gums, an LLBrainwashed brain and tags by Neas, Mรผdwig and Sepr)
Andy Council (this piece is painted in my neighbourhood of Easton and the spider is made up of various local buildings and landmarks - I can spot Stapleton Road Railway Station, Shah Jalal Jame Mosque, Kensington Baptist Church and W.G. Grace's former house.
And something from the archives. Following on from the Andy Council piece, and because Rowdy's got a kick-ass show on at the moment, here a collaboration between the two of them which has since been enveloped by vegetation and which has pretty much disappeared as a result.

And something from the archives. I don't know if these older photos are of any interest, so I'll make this the last one. Following on from the Rowdy and Sweet Toof piece above, here's a close up photo of a piece which I'm guessing a lot of people have seen from a distance on Stokes Croft. There's a rough video of it being painted here.

Visit BRISTOL ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Feral Things on Jul 13, 2013 20:16:03 GMT 1, Filthy Luker, Deams and Cheo and Sir Peter Blake - there are 80 of these Gromits around Bristol to raise money for the Bristol Children's Hospital as part of Gromits Unleashed. I've posted pictures of Cheba and Inkie's 'Gromits' in another thread here.
Dicy
Dead and Sepr
Inkie, Rose, Dotcom and WBH
Stewey
And something from the archives. The guy in the above piece is DJ Derek, who's possibly the finest reggae/dancehall/ska/dub DJ around and a local legend. He's 72 years old and will be retiring at the end of the year so if you've never had the pleasure of hearing him play I would highly recommend checking him out before it's too late. In the meantime here's some clips from his sets and this is SQPR's image of DJ Derek from 2008.
