ha ha then people could call you a peado when they come for dinner when they see it on your wall.

Surely your average peado would just stay at home and look it up on the net rather than travel to the Tate to gaze at one photograph?

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by geoffw on Jan 5, 2010 17:40:35 GMT 1, I got to thinking what iconic street art/stencil images(which have been also used on canvas or print) would be in a retrospective.......I'd include Beejoir-LV Child,Banksy-Laugh Now,Mantis-All fall Down,Nick Walker-Apish Angel,Eelus-Shat At,Jef-Sitting Kid and Eine-Scary. Faile Dog would also be a contender.
If we're talking pieces seen on the streets during what might be considering the 'inception' of street art i'd think you'd have to included TheLondonPolice's Lad and maybe even Flying Fortress.
Barcelona 2001-03 you'd see them, D, Miss Van, Microbo everywhere. I'd put them above Eelus for example

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Daniel Silk on Jan 5, 2010 17:54:14 GMT 1, Flying Fortress has really been one of those Artists that deserves to be much more well known. Maybe they are in the rest of Europe, but we don't really hear much in the UK now I remember years back when D*Face, Fortress, TLP and a few others were doing loads of work and shows together.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Sacked... on Sept 15, 2010 18:07:25 GMT 1, Oil Painting Protest over BP sponsorship in Tate Modern Turbine Hall Liberate Tate calls for footprint of art museum to be free from Big Oil
Tuesday (14 September) art activists from Liberate Tate staged a guerrilla art intervention in Tate Modern, covering the floor of the iconic Turbine Hall with dozens of litres of oil paint in protest at the museum taking sponsorship from BP.
The flash mob-style event was staged a day before a Tate Board of Trustees meeting. Liberate Tate are part of a growing public movement calling on Tateโs governing body to end its sponsorship agreement with the oil company. Tateโs Board of Trustees has decided to review the BP corporate sponsorship.
At 5pm, around 50 figures dressed in black entered the gallery each carrying a BP-branded oil paint tube. In a circle they placed the paint tubes on the floor and each stamped on one, spraying out dozens of litres of paint in a huge burst across the floor. The installation art work, โCrudeโ, was then signed โLiberate Tateโ and offered to Tate for its collection.
Blake Williams, a participant in the performance, said: โTen years ago tobacco companies were seen as respectable partners for public institutions. The Gulf of Mexico oil spill has brought home to an even wider public that the impact of big oil companies like BP on the environment and the global climate makes them equally unethical for an art museum, especially one that purports to demonstrate leadership in response to climate change.โ
Tateโs latest annual report (2009/10), released this month, claims โsustainability is a prime consideration throughout Tateโs workโ. Tate reduced its energy use and overall carbon emissions last year and makes much of its partnership with the Carbon Trust and that it was a founding signatory to the national 10:10 campaign, launched at Tate Modern, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 10% in 2010.
Liberate Tate said: โTate has so far chosen to take a very narrow view of its footprint in relation to climate change and to not yet take into account its formal relationship with Big Oil. At a time when arts institutions wish to demonstrate how central the arts are in bringing social benefits to all and thus deserving of strong public funding, the museum must accept responsibility for its full impact in society.โ
โTate has a sponsor in BP that is engaged in socially and ecologically destructive activities. This is incompatible with Tateโs ethical guidelines, its stated vision in regard to sustainability and climate change, and for maintaining Tateโs reputation. In addition, its mission is undermined if visitors to Tate galleries cannot enjoy great art without the museum making them complicit in creating climate chaos. We call on the governing body to recognise this and end Tateโs relationship with BP.โ
Earlier this year Liberate Tate issued an open invitation for artists, art lovers and other concerned members of the public to act to ensure that Tate ends its oil sponsorship by the end of 2011 ahead of Tate Modernโs expansion into it's cleaned out underground oil tanks.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by andrewd on Jan 18, 2011 19:03:51 GMT 1, I like the new building, just hope that it doesn't distract from the symmetry of the river view of the existing building. Tate modern is currently far too busy and any extension has to be welcomed. It's a pity they didn't buy up more of the nearby property for further extension.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Sacked... on Apr 1, 2014 22:34:54 GMT 1, The Tate yesterday filed an appeal to a court order that would require the museum to release information relating to its controversial sponsorship deal with British Petroleum (BP), Hyperallergic has learned. This development is the latest in an ongoing dispute between the Tate and anti-BP activists seeking to use Britainโs Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to shed light on the institutionโs funding from the oil-and-gas giant. The original FOIA request, filed in December 2011 by activist Glen Tarman for board minutes and other internal documents connected with a renewal of BPโs sponsorship deal, resulted in delayed then redacted disclosures from the Tate on February 16, 2012.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Deleted on Apr 1, 2014 23:47:05 GMT 1, The Tate modern is run by a bunch of tossers who who are up their own backsides and nothing but a butt buffing clique.
They never answer questions and never replied to any of mine when I asked them how much it actually cost to remove the Yellowism graffiti from the dodgy Rothko painting.
At the time it was scribbled on by Umanets, the tate said it would cost up to ยฃ200,000 to restore the painting which I find very hard to believe.
Yes oil companies and other such businesses sponser art and invest in art because it gives them a nice corporate image and they can rub shoulders with arty farty curators and directors.
