Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by Strange Al on Sept 12, 2007 22:26:32 GMT 1, I'm a bit gutted I didn't get a chance to see the Ratapult before somebody added the paper plane. Wish they'd have left it alone for a bit. Though as additions go, this is a pretty good one.
Rattus - +1 thanks for posting the pics.

Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by scavos on Sept 12, 2007 23:23:39 GMT 1, FANTASTIC Banksy love the cat and rat Rats yes but Has Banksy ever done a cat before?
I'm no expert but not to my knowledge. I love this piece of graffiti. It just 'moves' if you know what I mean. I'm just waiting for the rat to fall/fly. So much out there is very 'flat' and inanimate by comparison. This captures the character and movement of what is being portrayed perfectly. You can almost read the cat's mind! Or have I had one glass of wine too many? Pure Banksy - fun, frivolous, and on the street. How can something so simple be so effective?

The cat with the ball of wool has to be one of my all-time favourites (along with the snorting policeman and detonator monkey). The paint trails are just brilliant and give the pieces a fun multi-dimensional element.

Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by numusic on Sept 16, 2007 18:25:18 GMT 1, Perspex ? that's fucking ridiculous ! hate to say it and it might be a bit contentious, but I'd prefer to see it left to the elements and taggers than be covered with perspex. What's the point of street art if it's gonna be protected ? might as well stick it on canvas and bang it in a museum.

Someone should go rip the perspex off .. it's public art, belongs to everyone, street art is supposed to be making the private space public and someone comes along and makes it private again ! it'll have no more meaning than a billboard once it's covered. I'd rather see it buffed or vandalised than this.
I saw a program last night on North Korea and a bench in a park was covered in a perspex box, when the western film maker questioned why, he was told because it had been sat on by Kim Jong II.. all told in a typical sniggering way. Reminds me of this.

Was in London and didn't have a comp so didn't check the forum- am gutted now as would've loved to have seen these new ones in the 'flesh'.
As for protecting it, yeah i'm all up for that but not like this! who would've paid for it? the council or was it on private property? I wonder if they're going to cover the blue c**k version!

Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by Tyler Durden on Sept 17, 2007 11:44:36 GMT 1, I have to agree with the perspex covering. Saw the kissing coppers a little while ago in Brighton - did feel like it was in a gallery.. Trouble is there's always gonna be the people who deface the work, perspex or not. Seeing it when it's there is one of the perks as it brings a whole host of nostalgia and renewed appreciation when it's gone but you can see the pics of when it was there. Perspex makes it feel like he's become property of the national heritage. All he needs is a blue plaque put up in Bristol and the metamorphosis will be complete.
