Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by becksaboo on Sept 17, 2007 11:54:01 GMT 1, it just ruins the point of it. i saw the kissing copper last week and felt a bit removed from it, like in a gallery which i hated. I like to see the grime of the wall not a smooth piece of plastic.

Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by insite on Oct 27, 2007 9:55:02 GMT 1, Just read this on flickr it's by the "owner" of the painter on Portabello Road, a little insight into how Banksy gets away with it and also the greed of the media industry.
"Hi all,
This wall is actually Mine!
I'm the landlord and tenant. The building is our post production studio for film and video editing.
So here's the facts
1.) the orange was already their thats our company colour. 2.) it is a real banksy 3.) Its a shame I've had to perspecs it. but banksy is loved as much as he's hated and this wall has been vandalised over 10 times since the artwork went up and not once before it was there. 4.) The CCTV camera did not record him doing it 5.) I was tipped off he would do it before he did
but here's how he did it
well its a really bust spot so I wondered how or when he was going to do it. I just assumed he would come on aweekday night because its not as bus as the weekend with the portobello market.
but no. Banksy would get spotted by the police in seconds
he got some people to put up a massive scafolding in the middle of the day on the weekend with portobello market at full swing. It was so busy noone noticed a massive scafolding covered in cloth like a tent being erected.
Even someone from my office so it and just thought nothing of it. The neighbours next door twigged something was a bit weird and asked them who told them to put up a scafolding they were fobbed off by a fake name "hugo" by banksy's scafolding makers and in he went.
A few hours later the scafolding went down.
When I got to the office and saw it I was like fucking hell. He actually did it.
I'm considering knocking down the wall and selling it any idea how much it might go for! or does anyone know a building company who coulkd remove it safely and reasonably priced?
I've spent a grand on perspecs already and this thing is getting more and more costly to maintain.
Anyone in media who wants to edit at the post house with a banksy and some really talented geeks email"
Oh dear seem to have missed off the greedy fuckers mail addy

Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by trebor on Oct 27, 2007 10:23:15 GMT 1, He's been using that scffolding trick for years now, its a great way not to get caught but I doubt very many graffiti artists could foot the bill.

Banksy or not Banksy, that is the question?, by Strange Al on Oct 27, 2007 11:12:07 GMT 1, What I find interesting is that the "landlord" was tipped off and seems to have given tacit approval. (assuming this part of the story is true)

Not surprising though when you get to the bit where he says he's considering selling the wall

That's what I was thinking but then I realised that Perspex is transparent so they must have seen him coming.
I'll get my coat.
