Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by Treclau on Dec 3, 2020 0:35:20 GMT 1, How did you guys frame your posters? Did you guys flatten it before framing or did you leave it as it is? Mine is arriving in a couple of days so i could use some inspiration.
I didnโt bother flattening prior to framing as I found the fold lines actually help to keep the sheet taut. If youโre thinking more in terms of minimising the visibility of the folds, it really depends on the condition of your copy and whether the paper has started to fur along the fold lines. If thatโs the case, it may be best to avoid flattening ๐

Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by Treclau on Dec 3, 2020 0:24:42 GMT 1, I get the thing about the envelope but at the same time I dont, I got still 3 of the posters I got from the " the hunt around east London" but did not kept no envelopes as they stinked heavy industrial ink. And this does not make them fake, fakers can easly fake the envelopes if they can fake prints/posters etc.
Nobody said that posters lacking their original envelopes should be deemed fake โ Iโm just taking the perspective of a collector buying in 2020 who maybe missed the opportunity to obtain from source back in 2010, but wants to ensure that theyโre pursuing the real deal, hence this thread. Personally Iโd be more inclined to buy one that comes with the original envelope as any awkward-to-replicate elements such as that are to the buyerโs advantage โ not impossible to forge, but not straightforward either. As far as Iโm aware it hasnโt been done yet, so a decent indication of a genuine piece.

Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by Treclau on Nov 30, 2020 12:58:44 GMT 1, Hi Guys I might be able to help with some info about the Trespass poster. I work for the company that worked closely with Don't Panic when this particular poster was produced then took over the Bristol franchise for a few years too. I can't remember the total run of the poster that we printed or of the exact envelope that went with it but we often just used up whatever stock of envelopes we had left over from previous campaigns to make up the numbers so having a particular envelope with the poster doesn't necessarily give it authenticity. The number of packs we put together was dictated by the number of flyers that we had sold to go into the packs as well as the number of posters that had been agreed upon with the client. We only ever printed one run of the posters, some were kept flat but the vast majority were folded and put in packs. At the time we had no idea that they would become so valuable but we had a agreement with the guy that supplied us with the artwork that we wouldn't produce any more of them so we never did. We had a quantity of the folded posters leftover, not sure exactly how many, but we used to send them out to potential clients as samples so it is possible for someone to get hold of one that wasn't distributed in a pack. I have one undfolded Esso poster and one unfolded Trespass poster that was used in an exhibition of Don't Panic posters in Bristol around 8 years ago and has been hanging on our office wall ever since. Not in perfect condition because whoever put it in the ยฃ5 Ikea frame used masking tape on the corners to keep it in position. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try my best to answer them.
The kind of detail I was hoping for, thanks for sharing. Interesting to hear that leftover envelopes from previous releases would at times be used to package future editions โ I guess that may explain some of the anomaly designs that appear for sale every so often ๐๐ป

Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by Treclau on Nov 29, 2020 22:24:43 GMT 1, Thanks to those who have posted examples of envelopes! I had intended to do so myself when I created this thread but a busy weekend got in the way...
Some of these will be repeats of those already shared, but find below some envelopes that have recently appeared alongside posters listed for sale on eBay โ the first design of which features on the packs I obtained from-source back in 2010, so thatโs one we can be sure about. I can barely remember what I was doing 10 days ago, let alone 10 years, so if anyone can recall the finer details of this release, that would be great. I remember the packs only being available for a month, but Iโm unsure as to whether DP continually printed packs for the duration, or simply drip-fed their stockists from a single limited run? Of course, it was limited either way...
Just a quick warning to members โ on a few occasions, Iโve seen the odd poster listed for sale on eBay accompanied by a DP envelope from an entirely different edition (including one particularly audacious seller attempting to pass off as legit an envelope very clearly emblazoned with โ2014โ on its reverse). In all cases the posters may very well have been authentic yet separated from their original envelopes for whatever reason โ but the blatant dishonesty would personally lead me to steer clear.
With the hope of making this thread as comprehensive as possible, itโs probably worth allowing the topic of forgeries to rear itโs ugly head. Aside from the more obvious single-sided, fold-devoid copies currently being flogged on eBay for ยฃ25 a piece, has anyone come across any scarily accurate fakes on the market? And if so, are there any specific flaws to look out for?

Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by Treclau on Nov 27, 2020 9:20:45 GMT 1, also and at the risk of men in white coats coming to collect me, they have a distinctive smell that would be hard to replicate (unless you work for FM)
Ask the men in white coats to stop by my place as well... I think you have a point!

Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by Treclau on Nov 27, 2020 1:18:08 GMT 1, I canโt say that Iโve seen an in-depth thread about this before โ but if one already exists, apologies...
As everyone on here knows, Banksy collaborated with Donโt Panic back in 2010; releasing his second exclusive poster with the creative agency via their monthly envelope packs, typically crammed full with assorted promotional flyers. Coinciding with the release of Exit through the Gift Shop, Mr Bโs double-sided poster for DP featured the official film advert on one side, and on the other, โForgive Us Our Trespassingโ; a depiction of a street art tearaway praying to the big guy. The same piece had previously appeared on a wall in Salt Lake City, and in 2011, re-emerged as part of a collaboration with students at the City of Angels School, in a project which aimed to engage young people in creating art. Class dismissed...
A few days after the Donโt Panic release, I hopped on a train to London and was fortunate enough to get hold of a few packs for myself, obtained directly from various Donโt Panic stockists. All DP packs that I came across that day featured the same envelope design; an illustration of a grinning face, with all kinds of technological odds and sods forming itโs skull. Iโll upload an image below.
A decade later and luckily Iโve kept the original envelopes, but have noticed online (particularly eBay) that others are listing their posters for sale accompanied by envelopes featuring alternative designs...
I think itโs fair to say that the presence of the original envelope is a good indication of authenticity where these posters are concerned, but I canโt say that Iโm familiar with anything other than the envelope design I describe above. I thought it might be worth creating a thread which can be used as a resource by anyone considering purchasing this poster for their collection, or just to simply get the facts straight for this one. It would be good to hear from other forum members who, like myself, obtained their posters directly from DP stockists back in 2010, as opposed to purchasing from third parties in recent years.
Iโll pool together a few images of alternative envelopes which have recently appeared alongside posters listed for sale on eBay and will upload them tomorrow โ it wonโt be exhaustive, but itโll be a start...
...leave a comment, add an image... you know the drill!

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Treclau on Nov 2, 2020 13:28:58 GMT 1, Looks like I caused a bit of carnage i'm supprised so many tried buying but it looks like the page has now been taken down.
I didn't purchase anything myself (house move > low funds), but hopefully those that did will get their items.
I'll avoid such posts in the future
No, youโre fine! Itโs all a bit of fun! ๐

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Treclau on Nov 2, 2020 13:17:43 GMT 1, I'm a little surprised the WOH Insta page didn't/haven't released any info ..?
Thereโs a simple answer to this โ it wasnโt a release ๐ The OP found a link that wasnโt really intended to be publicised... sure, that link is publicly accessible and lists โnewโ items on the WOH website, but it was very much an alternative access route to the online store. Chaos ensued, with every man and their dog clambering aboard the Banksy bus until the wheels punctured. Good luck to those who managed to clear their payment, but I think weโll soon learn that the bus was out of service all along ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by Treclau on Nov 2, 2020 1:12:06 GMT 1, FYI: I'm on the checkout page since half an hour and filled in all my info, but the "Place order" button never appears. And I can't reload so I'm stuck.
Youโre at the same stage as me, just decided to reload page as it felt like a dead end... also nowhere to fill in card details, have you found that to be the case too?

BANKSY Gross Domestic Productโข, by Treclau on Oct 23, 2020 1:34:52 GMT 1, What do you mean? I'm sure these can be linen backed. I was answering your question about vintage movie posters vs prints that are being released these days. It's two completely different types of papers. You could linen back the free Banksy prints, but some people claim seeing the back is a way "authenticate" them. I would stay far away from any non PC Banksy stuff if you don't already have something at this point.
I think Terry was referring to the GDP newsprint pieces as opposed to editioned prints, but good to emphasise what shouldnโt be done all the same!
You make a fair point โ if someone intends to sell in the future, maybe itโs better to leave these sheets alone. But given that thereโs no solid way of authenticating these GDP newsprint pieces, Iโd be inclined to simply treat the things well and enjoy... have them linen backed to add strength and smooth out those ripples, get them framed with all the conservation bells and whistles that your budget allows, and whack them up on the wall. Minimal heat, humidity and sunlight exposure if possible. The best place for them!

BANKSY Gross Domestic Productโข, by Treclau on Oct 23, 2020 0:12:59 GMT 1, Someone tell me if Iโm completely wrong in suggesting this, but I wonder if linen backing these GDP prints would be a good move to ensure their long term preservation? If framed without linen backing, theyโd need to be archivally hinged to within an inch of their lives for that rippling to be tamed โ and that discolouration screams high acidity/lignin content. Linen backing is maybe less relevant for the latter issue, but given that theyโre about as ephemeral as Banksyโs work can get... what do people reckon? Good question! It's strange that linen backed vintage posters is perfectly normal and a good way to preserve them and also increases the value. When it comes to art prints, linen backed or dry mounted is a big no no. Why? I don't have a fuckin clue... I avoid dry mounting like the plague, itโs definitely up there with the worst well-intentioned but oh-so-wrong paper treatments... irreversible 99% of the time, and for the lucky 1%, still extremely difficult to correct. But youโre right โ for vintage and antique posters that are equally as ephemeral as these GDP newsprint pieces, linen backing is the go-to method of preservation (...Iโm in no way suggesting that itโs a suitable preservation method for editioned prints though... donโt do that!)

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by Treclau on Nov 14, 2017 1:52:13 GMT 1, I think it's safe to say that, 198 pages later, I've definitely gone off soup.
Here's a throwback photo from eight or so years ago, taken around the time when I'd regularly trek to POW's Commercial Street store. It's nothing spectacular but this news stand poster was given to me by a very generous Art teacher, and although a regular version was mass released to coincide with Banksy's interview, I can't say that I've seen another like this one. Still on the wall, but no longer in the cheap B&Q frame seen in the photo!

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by Treclau on Oct 25, 2017 0:57:12 GMT 1, You've entered once, so think you'll be fine. The black listed people won't be fine, and those who quickly flip from PC records I think. I wonder if those already in possession of work will be considered a 'good home'? Or if they'll be a few IP checks going on from multiple email users..or if ID matching registered names will be needed to release lottery winners for those making up random names/emails I guess there's no way of really knowing, but fingers-crossed my entry will still count. I think all the measures that you mention are possible โ just got to hope that the lucky 500 are genuinely in it for the right reasons!
It's kind of interesting to consider how these releases are managed.. I definitely wouldn't want to be the one at the helm!

POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by Treclau on Oct 25, 2017 0:29:15 GMT 1, If POW plan to use their mailing list as part of their security measures for the Banksy lottery, I might have inadvertently ruined my chances
I first signed up to the mailing list back in 2008/9, using my teenage "immature" email address... we've all had one! I stopped sending emails from that address many years ago โ but I still receive newsletters etc. from mailing lists using that old address, which includes POW. I now only use my "professional" address.
So when POW emailed me about their closing down sale, I entered the Banksy lottery using said "professional" email address... but I stupidly didn't consider the continuity.
I play by the rules and have only entered once โ I thought that would count but now I'm not so sure
Nobody really knows POW's security measures, but what do people reckon to this?
If POW plan to use their mailing list as part of their security measures for the Banksy lottery, I might have inadvertently ruined my chances I first signed up to the mailing list back in 2008/9, using my teenage "immature" email address... we've all had one! I stopped sending emails from that address many years ago โ but I still receive newsletters etc. from mailing lists using that old address, which includes POW. POW CLOSING DOWN - SALE ENDS 31ST DECEMBER 2017, by Treclau on Oct 21, 2017 3:35:43 GMT 1, Such a shame to hear the news that POW is shutting up shop for good. It's been a while since I've logged on to this forum, but I spent my teenage years completely obsessed with Banksy and his contemporaries.. I'll never forget my Commercial Street detours to POW as an acne-ridden 16 year old! I was forever scraping together the cash to get my hands on even the low-cost pieces โ mostly Banksy's stickers, polite line tape and a few other odds and sods, but my only real splurge, Too Louis by Mr Brainwash, is still up on the wall Maybe he'll soon be joined by a Sale Ends Today.. who am I kidding, I'm not getting my hopes up!

The woes of white tack, by Treclau on Feb 13, 2012 20:24:20 GMT 1, Thanks for your reply. I don't think it's of enough value to justify ยฃ80, but I'll keep looking into it. Then again, I haven't seen anybody else with this version of the Time Out poster..

The woes of white tack, by Treclau on Feb 13, 2012 13:33:44 GMT 1, A few years ago and without thinking I used white tack on a Banksy poster (Time Out, different to the poster available to the public on their website, possibly rare) to secure it in place within a frame that was a bit too big for the poster. I recently noticed that the tack has left oily marks on the poster..
..any suggestions as to how to remove the marks?
Thanks

Exit Through The Gift Shop - Special Features, by Treclau on Aug 26, 2010 10:25:07 GMT 1, Come on forum, let's not get carried away. There obviously is a 'limited edition' version, but it's the same one at all retailers (Amazon, Play, HMV, Rough Trade etc.) When it comes to DVD releases, this is going to be the same as any other. Limited edition is going to mean many thousands - i.e., not really limited edition at all.
adamk is right

DVD Versions of 'Exit Through the Gift Shop', by Treclau on Jul 29, 2010 18:15:08 GMT 1, A few different versions of 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' are being sold by different stores e.g.
HMV: 2 DVD, Ltd Blu-Ray from most stores Other stores haven't said - single DVD?
Where did you order your DVD from?
Does anybody know how these versions vary?

Want: Any Spare James Cauty Stamps?, by Treclau on Jul 26, 2010 18:49:26 GMT 1, I've got a few James Cauty stamps ready to frame but I need a few more to fill the frame. I was wondering if anybody has any spare James Cauty stamps that they wouldn't mind posting to me. In return, I can give you some POW stickers and a few others that I have.
I'd also consider purchasing the stamps for a fair price
Cheers, James ;D
