Bad Man, by pezlow on Nov 5, 2007 13:34:32 GMT 1, I'd be cool with it if that WAS the worst people were doing, but it's not. I'm pretty sure this person won't get their print because of emails sent by forum members. It'd be nice to think that POW would then put the print up for open sale again, but I really doubt they will - I don't think they want that kind of hassle again. It'll just 'disappear'. I'm just not morally happy with what's happened here. Doesn't feel right. Maybe they were just looking for a quick buck and they are a money-obsessed scoundrel who cares nothing for the lives of others. Maybe (given their age and profile photo) they're a student who's just strapped for cash. Maybe (as I would do in the blink of an eye) they were going to trade down for an unsigned print. I don't know, and that's my point - nobody does, and I don't feel it's right to lynch some kid like this. Check out what he wears for college on his profile pic!!! Hardly think this guy is hard up...
I'm pretty sure he goes to Eton College from those pics. For those of you who don't live in the UK that is the country's top private fee paying school. It is where William and Harry were educated. I believe fees are in the region of ยฃ25k per annum,

Bad Man, by Yessir on Nov 5, 2007 13:54:21 GMT 1, POW banning people after finding out a new Banksy print is being flipped could be a good thing and a bad thing.
I have made my views known on what I think about flipping, but what happens when a flipper list a new banksy print on Ebay, with a different print number from the one they have been issued and an innocent person gets banned for life from buying through POW, hypothetical but easily done.
ME or ANYONE else could be banned for life, because of the devious actions of someone else...

I used to work with a bouncer whose favourite line was: "You've got the kind of face I could never get tired of punching"... lovely bloke.
Only a joke, no offense like. Uni's don't have dress codes, do they? Thank god I went to a shitty 70's poly. Not sure it's possible to get too personal with one of these... they've gotten "where they are today" off the backs of others... fuck em, s'what I say. Might be a little harsh, he could be on a scholarship, I s'pose... but then at least this kind of thing will make him remember which side his bread is buttered. I'm off to take the whippet for a walk.

How the f**k do you know they've "gotten where they are today off the backs of others" I refuse to pass such judgement on someone I've never met. Sometimes I hate the internet. I went to Cambridge and the amount of 'well it's alright for some' crap I received over the years was infuriating. I worked my balls off to get there. There were times when I didn't have two pennies to rub together either, and selling a print on ebay wouldn't have seemed like such a bad idea.
Still, my soap-box moaning won't change anything. The emails have been sent.
edit: and yeah, good point Anthony. The potential for lurkers to wreak havoc would be pretty big... 'Dear POW, I heard so and so was going to sell a print, I think you shouldn't send it to them and put it back up for sale'

There's a huge difference between Cambridge and Eton, if you don't understand that then not sure Cambridge was worth your while.
I don't know anyone, no matter how hard they may work (not that effort and achievement or remuneration are particularly linked in any way, shape or form), that could afford the fees at Eton when they are around the average wage of household in the UK.
The comment about not being sure its possible to get too personal is a reflection on the character that the like of Eton attempt to instill in their "charges"... hedged my bets, should have gone for the much easier...
"THIS IS TOO PERSONAL, IT FEELS WEIRD"... said the vicar to the maid.

No disrespect Tom, but not sure siting the hardships of being a Cambridge grad is gonna help win any arguments here. You are without a doubt, when it comes to gainging an education, one of the winners of lifes little lottery.

Doesn't the comment about "my whippet" in some way make you think I might have been over-egging it on purpose?

Bad Man, by mwjm0 on Nov 5, 2007 14:46:24 GMT 1, Check out what he wears for college on his profile pic!!! Hardly think this guy is hard up... I'm pretty sure he goes to Eton College from those pics. For those of you who don't live in the UK that is the country's top private fee paying school. It is where William and Harry were educated. I believe fees are in the region of ยฃ25k per annum,
rich people buying art??? what an outrage!!! i didn't think this kind of thing went on.

Shame the not-so-rich folk are excluded from being able to enjoy and collect art too, just cos some greedy fuck wants to line his pockets.

Did I say it was outrageous. I wish I had never posted this now as this has got a bit out of hand. The guy goes to eton. That is the eton school uniform he is wearing in the pictures and there is a picture of eton college on his ebay page. Other than that I know nothing about him and didn't suggest that I did.

Bad Man, by mwjm0 on Nov 5, 2007 15:05:35 GMT 1, rich people buying art??? what an outrage!!! i didn't think this kind of thing went on. Shame the not-so-rich folk are excluded from being able to enjoy and collect art too, just cos some greedy f**k wants to line his pockets.
everyone can enjoy banksy art. its on his website for free and on the walls if you care to go and look. people are far to preoccupied with ownership of prints and originals on this board. i'll never own a francis bacon but it doesn't for a second make me enjoy his art or discussing it any less.

Bad Man, by jcjcjc on Nov 5, 2007 15:05:43 GMT 1, I don't understand why everyone is banging on about "flippers". Take a look around you......it goes on everywhere. And let's face it, most of these flippers would be damn lucky to ever bag another anyway. Just look at how many hard core fans have been trying and failed. As for why they do it, it's always money and the money is there because fans think it is worth paying (I'm making no judgements here about what the profits are needed for, we don't know and it's none of our business). If we all decided that we would never pay any more than the original purchase price, the market would only contain art lovers but lets face it, if you paid ยฃ150 for a print 4 years ago and you could get ยฃ6K, I'm sure most of you don't want that to happen either. So with most things in life.....we need to just live with it. Good things don't stay underground for long and our reward for being in early is that we should have been able to buy at sensible prices. Why not leave it at that and move on?

Bad Man, by shavemysoul on Nov 5, 2007 15:06:20 GMT 1, Only a joke, no offense like. Uni's don't have dress codes, do they? Thank god I went to a s**tty 70's poly. Not sure it's possible to get too personal with one of these... they've gotten "where they are today" off the backs of others... f**k em, s'what I say. Might be a little harsh, he could be on a scholarship, I s'pose... but then at least this kind of thing will make him remember which side his bread is buttered. I'm off to take the whippet for a walk. Not sure it's too personal?! The emails have been sent.edit: and yeah, good point Anthony. The potential for lurkers to wreak havoc would be pretty big... 'Dear POW, I heard so and so was going to sell a print, I think you shouldn't send it to them and put it back up for sale'
There's something that confuses me about this sentence. You're upset that your argument can't save this guy from having his print revoked? I'm not sure quite where this sudden defense of this guy has come from. I find it lunacy. Ok, I admit, getting personal and talking about his details is below the belt and shouldn't be done. But to suggest he shouldn't have his print withdrawn? I think some of this board has lost its sensabilities.

True in so much as the fact art can still be enjoyed without owning it (which is what makes street art so fucking fantastic), but are you suggesting that finance should dictact who gets to decorate their walls??

Are you suggesting that money doesn't dictate who can own art?

So as a result of your defeatest point of view, maybe you'd endorse POW releasing Banksy prints are true market value? At least then someone deserving could have his pockets lined.

I'm not niave in so much as to think that it doesnt... that's not the point, i'm asking why should anyone uphold the belief that it should (note the modality, in principle/potential, why?).

Its not quite the same but the "most" money doesn't dictate who can own art, is my interpretation of what Banksy, POW and others are doing. I dunno though, maybe I'm just another sucker.

My point was that I personally feel uneasy about targeting an individual after they have bought the print. I'm also, like a good few others here, pro-lottery when it comes to limited edition prints. Sell them like Wimbledon tickets.
