Amateur Question Needs Answer, by stillborncrisps on Sept 13, 2016 19:12:22 GMT 1, Every show is different, mate, and certainly different Stateside vs UK, plus the level of gallery can make a difference to 1 print getting released, several, or OGs only.
Why not phone the gallery, they usually know a few weeks in advance what the plan is.
Generally if there is a print it will be released on the private view night, so get your name down on the gallery's invite list. If it's a popular artist you may have to wait in line several hours before opening time. Other times you can breeze in casually, or even next day and still pick one up.
If it's a several hour drive why not ask the gallery if you can reserve a print. It might be only their best VIP customers get this treatment, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Good luck.

Ernest zacheravic-i heart Street art give away, by stillborncrisps on Jul 27, 2016 10:20:27 GMT 1, gotta love your sales pitch! so I'm taking your opportunity and using it to rant a bit. Tags, we don't all love em, most of us understand, some hate. But you can't argue they are art, they have style and flair to them. This utter abomination on the other hand is the epitome of f**kingawful. no art, no style, and then you have to consider its times roman numeral (or similar) straight from word no doubt. Its the most degrading thing anyone could do to tagging! "If the daily mail did tagging" And thats before you even see it in the news feeds with the title "Guy Paints Overs**t Graffiti And Makes It Legible" For the love of god you heathens, its not even graffiti!! yuk yuk yuk Its not a mural either mind you. Thanks for the opportunity :-)
Did the guy actually paint out the tags to do that?
Or did he put the legible versions up /after/ they were buffed by the authorities?
If it was the latter I'd say that was pretty funny, and a worthwhile comment/statement to make. (once!)
If it was the former I'd agree it's lame as.

Stokes Croft - Magpie Squat Eviction + Crowdfunder, by stillborncrisps on Jul 14, 2016 10:48:18 GMT 1, Man that's sad news. To raise £200k to buy it is amazing, but there's always someone with more money. Goodbye Stokes Croft.
I'm sure it would've been looked into, but couldn't the building have got a 'community asset' order put on it from the council, which would prevent it being sold for redevelopment?

SHORT TRIP TO LONDON WITH FAMILY-ADVICE PLEASE?, by stillborncrisps on Jul 13, 2016 16:23:00 GMT 1, There was lots of ideas of things to do in this recent thread about where to stay in London:
urbanartassociation.com/thread/137081/first-time-london-where-stay
Where you're staying you're right near the Leake St tunnel, the South Bank skate spot (next to BFI) and the new wing of the Tate Modern.
A warm welcome awaits you.
Also, a bit out of town but try and go for wander round Hackney Wick and along the canal there. Tonnes of graffiti.

Original Grange Hill cartoon Strip, by stillborncrisps on Jun 25, 2016 19:08:30 GMT 1, These strips were used in the opening credits of the show in the late 80s.
Were they??
ISTR once they ditched the original 'sausage' strip intro, they went for an abstract video montage of clips of kids grabbing a satchel / running past school gates, etc..?

Bonhams 22nd June Prints & Multiples, by stillborncrisps on Jun 23, 2016 0:27:51 GMT 1, Wasn't there a thread here in the last month or so about auction hyping? Prices getting driven up, recorded as such, but behind the scenes the sales all fall through - bonly that little detail gets 'lost', but conveniently creates a false new price level.
Unless we know that these sales definitely complete, today's surprise leapfrog in pricing is meaningless/not to be trusted as a yardstick?

Art Insurance in the UK, by stillborncrisps on Jun 20, 2016 17:02:43 GMT 1, Thanks for all the info. Am on the case now.
Just out of interest, when I'm totting up the values to give to the insurer, should I use eBay sort of prices, or Gallery prices, or Auction prices?
I mean, has anybody actually managed to get full gallery price from an insurer for a stolen or damaged print that in some cases cost a tenth of such price at source/on one's receipt?
Also, what happens if a piece has gone down in value but I've still got the receipt for a higher value. Would the insurer pay out for the original cost, even if it was on sale on the secondary market for half the price now?

Banksy Books • Existencilism, Cut it Out, Banging Your Head, by stillborncrisps on Jun 16, 2016 9:38:45 GMT 1, I always wanted to create a quality PDF of them to share but would require taking a set apart to do properly. May still do it. Definitely something everyone should read through.
I don't know about quality, but I'm pretty sure Sure someone's made a scanned PDF of each book already. Can look on my HD tonight if you want.
They are excellent books full of great quotes and sentiments (mostly ghost written by Simon Munnery, not Banksy but great and inspirational nonetheless).
I bought so many of these BITD as xmas presents for friends etc, they were only a fiver. They'll probably have them on Antiques Roadshow before long.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by stillborncrisps on Jun 13, 2016 18:12:57 GMT 1, He might wanna double check how it was framed.
If it was a high street 'professional framer', your brother (or the next owner) might be in for a dry-mounted surprise if the frame is ever opened, which would significantly affect the value.
Do you know where/how he got it done?

Art Insurance in the UK, by stillborncrisps on Jun 11, 2016 10:01:52 GMT 1, I'm with More Than too, anything in the house over a value of £1,500 should be declared. Wasn't aware of the limit though, how much is it? On my policy it was £15k, I took it out years ago though, and haven't switched as it was such a ball ache to get comparisons once you mention the words 'high value art'. Been really happy with More Than, was really straightforward to take out and they didn't take the piss with price increases year on year.

Art Insurance in the UK, by stillborncrisps on Jun 11, 2016 9:29:38 GMT 1, I'm sure there used to be a thread about this but damned if I can find it.
Basically any prints £1.5k+ are currently covered by my home insurance (More Than) but there's a cap on their total for art. With the Banksy prices going insane in the last year or two, I'm thinking I should probably take out a separate insurance when I come to renew next month. That, or look for home insurance with a higher cap.
Any recommendations?

Another Faile favourite of mine. Reminds me of old rock/heavy metal poster. You don't see them come up that often.
How many versions are there? I know there's the POW version and the remix version.
