New BANKSY stall, by stillborncrisps on Nov 6, 2018 21:12:14 GMT 1, In the end itโs not the DPI that counts but the overall pixel count. Itโs trivial (and lossless) to change the print resolution to 300DPI as long as the pixel dimensions are sufficient to print at the desired size. But if the original is only 2400 pixels wide - you cant make a web image high resolution whilst remaining at that size or bigger.
How wide is a pixel, Pipes? It's not a physical unit.
The image on site is indeed 72dpi, and at that resolution the physical dimensions are 87.49cm x 123.72cm, which will look blurred (unless you're printing on canvas or something, you might be able to get away with it then).
However, print the same 72dpi image at 21cm x 30cm as I suggested and it becomes equivalent of 300dpi, and it will look amazing.
I'm not convinced HR's image could go to 84cm x 84cm and look good. It might not look pixellated, but I don't think it will look good. Smaller is safer, especially if you're laying out money at a print shop.

New BANKSY stall, by stillborncrisps on Nov 6, 2018 20:03:36 GMT 1, Thank-you Friday & Romulus - I've just downloaded a JPEG off the banksy website - the size is 926kb. is 926kb JPEG good enough to take to the print shop? Clever computer people help needed please ....... Its very hi res as well so you can print your own posters (bigger than the ones being give away infact) You can print the image from the website up to 21cm x 29cm and it will look crisp and amazing. (equivalent of 300dpi if that means anything).
Anything larger than those dimensions and you will start to see blurriness when up close, but you could go at least twice as big as 21cm x 29cm without it looking appalling.

Isn't it quite unusual for a piece like this (the wall recreation) to be signed? I know he stopped signing street stuff years ago, but it's not like he singed any of the pieces in the Walled Off Hotel, and nothing at Dismaland was signed. In fact I can't remember the last thing I saw signed, other than prints.

KLF, The JAMs, by stillborncrisps on Jul 22, 2017 13:17:30 GMT 1, I have to agree with you about point 1. The million quid stunt has been pored over to death, reinvention not nostalgia is what I'd expect from the KLF. This could well or spectacularly wrong, precisely why I love these guys I sort of agree, but at the same time from what I remember, they've always claimed they don't know why they did it. Maybe they will finally give a real answer. (some hope )

Banksy Police Kids & NBG Grey, by stillborncrisps on Jul 10, 2017 17:56:49 GMT 1, Banksy Police Kids was 13200 buyer fee inc Apols, read it as ยฃ13200 being the seller's actual takings from NBG after auction fees deducted.
So there's an aditional 4% Artist's Royalty for the buyer - is there any auction house fees too?

VIDEO OF THE DAY..., by stillborncrisps on Jun 7, 2017 0:59:08 GMT 1, Found this 'behind the scenes' film of UK BMX rider Sebastian Keep. His whole approach reminded me very much of Banksy.
E.g. once he's found a good spot, even though the odds are stacked against it, no other spot would do (ISTR Banksy became fixated on using the Leake St tunnel once he'd discovered it). There's also similarity how he gets a solid team of dedicated mates to then make it happen in the small hours while the city sleeps.
30 mins, but worth it.

BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by stillborncrisps on May 15, 2017 15:43:57 GMT 1, I watched Shep with 3 helpers paint a giant Obey design on a building using a platform hoist. It took them 5 days. And they were only doing one colour (on top of a pre-prepared background colour).
Think of the giant rats Banksy got those 'proffessional' mural guys to paint in New York ("There's no such thing as good publicity") - it took them days.
I challenge anyone to recreate the Dover piece with a team as big as you like in 'a few hours'. The logistics just don't stack up. Proffessional or otherwise.
Agree with you on the magician's trick though. The illusion has been tarnished a little with the more we know about his methods. Ignorance is bliss.

BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by stillborncrisps on May 14, 2017 13:00:11 GMT 1, You really think a piece that size takes 'a few hours'?? Youre completely missing the point, it doesnt matter if it takes 10 mins or 10 years if they have a tarp up. BUT, Exactly how long do you think its takes to paint a blue square, 12 stars and a man ? ย ย Well I've misplaced my time and motion study notebook so can't give you accurate figures.
But based on observations of artists at events such as Upfest (who have access to scissor lifts, etc making their job 'easier'), and remembering to allow for drying time between each colour/layer, plus all the initial marking out (those stars are in /perfect/ alignment with each other), I would expect this to have taken 24hrs if done by one person. With a team, maybe 12hrs.
Feel free to paint the side of a house blue and correct me if you achieve it in a shorter time.

The hammer's wrong. That's a mallet, used for chiselling wood. It should be a bolster or club hammer.

AOKC Burning Love Valentine Print, by stillborncrisps on Feb 7, 2017 13:29:59 GMT 1, So over this year I've sold around 60 of these so 40 left of the first run to sell. AOKC's currently raising funds to buy books for children in Nepal. So with Valentine's just round the corner I thought newer members who'd joined within the last year may like the opportunity to win favour with someone they love and help the Children of Nepal. Order here www.etsy.com/uk/listing/496579534/burning-love-print-limited-edition?ref=shop_home_active_1I'm pleased to announce the release of 'Burning Love'. All profits from this edition will go to The Acts of Kindness Collective (registered charity no.1164796).
Awesome shot, but isn't one of the founding principles of Burning Man decommodification? And specifically for pictures taken there 'not be used for any commercial, promotional, editorial or otherwise non-personal reasons...' ? Even though it's for a good cause it seems a bit out of spirit with the event?

Can you match the artist to the album covers?, by stillborncrisps on Feb 6, 2017 17:03:43 GMT 1, 8/10 although though that was embarrassingly with almost 50% guesses.
Patti Smith and Consolidated confounded me.
H. R. Giger was a surprise! I've never even seen that album before.

Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by stillborncrisps on Jan 12, 2017 2:20:02 GMT 1, Planning a few days in Paris next month.
Looking for a bit of guidance on any must see street art/cool areas/galleries/exhibitions? Do any Blek or Invader pieces still exist anywhere? Would be cool to see them in their hometown. Jef Aerosol too.
Also, tips on areas to stay would be welcome - I really have no clue.
Merci!

KLF (Jimmy Cauty) are back, by stillborncrisps on Jan 6, 2017 12:31:03 GMT 1, Drummond's 45 book is indeed quite excellent. He's such a good story teller.
I also really enjoyed most of the book Bad Wisdom he co-wrote with Mark Manning (Zodiac Mindwarp), although I must confess I got hopelessly lost about 3/4 in. Conceptually though, it was brilliant nonetheless.

New BANKSY Interview from 1995, by stillborncrisps on Dec 6, 2016 1:17:10 GMT 1, Awesome! Never seen this before. Bet that doesn't stay up on YT long!
It's def not 1995 though. It's 2000, probably filmed in 1999.
"Shadow People: New series about the habits of people who sleep by day and work by night." It was a 15 min, 12 part series shown on 4 Later (Channel 4). Series started Saturday March 11th 2000, and ended Saturday May 27th 2000.
The series got repeated, starting January 2001.
Not sure which date the Banksy episode appeared though.

If Trainspotting was about 'everyday life', by stillborncrisps on Nov 7, 2016 12:20:31 GMT 1, Do you remember much about it as a play? How did it work?
Had they made the narrative to focus around Renton like in the film, or was it still a disjointed collection of stories like the book?
Was the humour still there or was it just grim?

If Trainspotting was about 'everyday life', by stillborncrisps on Nov 6, 2016 14:18:54 GMT 1, I saw an interview with Robert Carlyle and he said there hasn't been a ton of money thrown at it, they haven't all asked for insane fees, and they filmed it all in a matter of weeks - a quick in and out just for the love of it.
This coupled with the book being written 10 years ago and many years after Trainspotting came out gives me high hopes that T2 isn't gonna be complete shit.
Aprehensively excited.
