Obey still not shipping to the UK, by Poster Bob on Jan 22, 2021 15:49:45 GMT 1, Anyone blaming him is a fool. His prints always sell out and they'll continue to do so if he does or doesn't ship to the UK and the EU. I wouldn't want to unnecessarily take on the burden of reporting taxes to a foreign country.
why is anyone blaming obey for this, or hoping joe biden will save the UK from international shipping red tape lol

Obey still not shipping to the UK, by Poster Bob on Jan 22, 2021 13:28:47 GMT 1, can he not start thinking about doing a UK release through his UK site? He could open up all sales over ยฃ135 to the UK if he wanted. This issue needs sorting out before the EU institutes the same policy soon.

Obey still not shipping to the UK, by Poster Bob on Jan 22, 2021 1:15:46 GMT 1, There'll be plenty of US sellers on eBay to grab from though. And if you're in the UK, or soon the EU, Ebay will charge you VAT on the price. He's forcing people to buy from flippers.

Stik Print, Canvas, WANTED, by Poster Bob on Jan 21, 2021 11:47:01 GMT 1, A canvas. But you don't have a sense of humor and ain't nobody got time for that. I used to be a comedian so I would say fairly humorous at times, but when Iโm requesting works from serious people I donโt appreciate stupid comments. Show me your canvas then big boy.... Ain't nobody got time for people calling them "big boy"

Thanks Posterbob thats really clear ... do you think the Giclee image quality is as high as the P1/P2 Chromogenic prints ? I dont remember the P1/P2 being at all shiny when I saw them at Sothebys etc ?

Gerhard Richter ๐ฉ๐ช Abstract โข Contemporary Art โข New Relea, by Poster Bob on Jan 16, 2021 14:12:47 GMT 1, Hi Posterbob When you say "the length of time from release is highly relevant" do you mean that as the P2 has been round longer and gets high prices over a number of years, that the P19 series cant be considered as valuable until it has been around for a number of years? And do you think a print from the P19 series is one of an edition of 200 prints or should it be considered to be one of an edition of 1,200 ? To put it in a very short manner, P1 and P2 were instantly valuable as are P19; P19 will appreciate over time. In general, and ignoring many other important factors, supply is highest at the time of release as short-term-minded sellers want an instant profit. Initital auction results coax other prints to come to market and they are placed in static collections. Supply then decreases while prestige increases. Prices should, in general, go up over time (flukes excluded).
These prints are already valuable and will appreciate. They are editions of 200. Saying that they are an edition of 1,200 is like saying that P1 and P2 are an edition of 1,000. A 20% increase in the entire print run of the series isn't going to have a massive effect on their value. Image quality is more important than the run size.

Gerhard Richter ๐ฉ๐ช Abstract โข Contemporary Art โข New Relea, by Poster Bob on Jan 16, 2021 1:52:48 GMT 1, I've got a feeling it will go for silly money. $15k already, with almost 2 weeks to go... There's no reason it won't go for more than a P2. Being around longer and coming out years earlier is irrelevant. The length of time from release is highly relevant.

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Poster Bob on Jan 10, 2021 13:17:27 GMT 1, Sounds like third-party insurance. In the past I have paid people to take out a year-long subscription to third-party insurance in order to save money. Ask for proof of the policy and make sure that the item is covered if there is a discrepancy between the declared price and the price paid.
Ok so here is a conundrum, I am looking at buying a secondary market via ebay for piece from France for a value of maybe ยฃ4000. Iโve just said to the seller so disappointed I canโt make a bid as the imports are just going to be too high. He has said he has looked into it for a while and he would mark it at a very low value like 20 euros which would solve the problem but then it would be insured for the real value of say ยฃ4000. Does this work because surely if he is stating the insurance value at 4K how can he mark down the value at 20 euros?? Anyone with knowledge on this as itโs a lot of money to spend but a particular piece Iโve been after and in mint condition Cheers

Auction house consignment in London , by Poster Bob on Jan 7, 2021 13:57:06 GMT 1, I'm sure you can find a different courier who will say otherwise. Last night I asked someone to arrange a collection for me and the auction house is getting a quote from their shipping partner.
It's not just a problem for sellers. It's also a problem for buyers too. With non-essential travel currently banned, you can't pick up any items you may have won at auction. I asked a courier company and they also said they can't pick up items from auction houses on my behalf as this goes against current covid restrictions. So basically I wont be bidding on any items anytime soon.

Paul Insect โข The Reflection, Observer , by Poster Bob on Jan 6, 2021 22:10:05 GMT 1, If they ship from the EU you should pay no VAT at the time of purchase and 5% VAT once imported. I'd do some tests on their website to make sure that they have removed VAT from the purchase price. Or, is the UK VAT added by the EU seller now. So no more to pay when imported? My very basic understanding from what I have read is that the EU seller adds VAT if the item is under a particular figure, which I think is ยฃ135ish. If it is over that figure VAT will be charged, at the applicable rate, when it arrives in the UK. If you're thinking of buying one of these I would email, webchat, or DM Avant Arte. I have never bought from them before but when I did ask about prints they were very polite and helpful. I'm sure they'll reply and you can share their response with us.

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Poster Bob on Jan 6, 2021 13:29:15 GMT 1, With the risk of someone telling me the answer to my question is in the pages and pages of confusing updates and threads, can anyone simply answer what would I have to pay ( Iโm in the UK as a private buyer) if I bought an item from say ebay from a private seller in France for ยฃ2000. I have tried reading the governmentโs website but frankly it keeps talking about businesses and my eyes are starting to bleed reading it ๐ฉ Your kind and simplified replies would be much appreciated Cheers As far as I know, buying from France will now be the same as buying from USA. i.e. you will pay VAT when it enters the country plus an admin fee. So for 2K you will pay 20% VAT (ยฃ400) or, if you're lucky, 5% VAT (ยฃ100) plus something like ยฃ12 processing fee. It should always be 5% and never 20% in the scenario you outlined above so long as it is a piece of art. I have taken a look at a few online art shops located in France and none of them have changed their checkout system to remove French VAT. Has anyone seen an example of this?
