Banksy sign, by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 13, 2018 8:40:07 GMT 1, I'm shocked he claimed this one. ๐ I'm shocked there are less than 2 pages in this thread. By average people have more comments on sale threads than this new Banksy piece thread. EDIT : Now i see. This explains it. #priorities
This has been the tendency for a long time.
In fairness, the forum's name does suggest a focus on urban art (which I understand as commercial products related in some way to the street art world) rather than street art proper.

Banksy sold for ยฃ1.5 Million at Lazarides Exhibition, by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 12, 2018 18:20:22 GMT 1, Are you mad? You saying that the group show he curated at The Old Vic Tunnels was awful? Or the Faile show in Lambeth awful? Or Insect show in Kings X? Or any of the Invader shows? Or any of the Santas Ghettos? The fact that you are mentioning Whitecube and Gagosian - shows really more about your taste then it does about Laz as a curator. Love him or hate him, you can thank Laz for most of your collection, you would havent known about half of the artist if it wasnt for him some wouldn't have had anything to flip if it wasn't for Laz!! [ Like I said, I am not playing down his advocation for street art. What I am slamming is his ability to curate a show properly. The shows he curated arenโt elevated. Theyโre pediestrian. Iโve seen enough images to know that theyโre not very good. There is a reason why the curator world refuses to acknowledge that he exists. It isnโt the content, but how itโs presented. Also there is this thing called google. Itโs a powerful search engine that uses incredibly sophisticated algorithms for search queries. Itโs how most people acquire knowledge these days. I am not thanking Laz fors**t. No reason. Would have found on google eventually, Laz or no Laz.
Have you actually been to any of the exhibitions, or are you basing your opinion solely on images from the shows?

Banksy sign, by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 12, 2018 17:51:17 GMT 1, Yes, that is Banksy's official Instagram.
Sorry to labour the point, but how has this been verified? Iโm just curious how we just assume itโs an official page. If anything I just want to educate myself a bit more on the matter. From what Iโve seen that Insta Page has never been used to show releases/new bits of art first. It always seems to piggy back post things after everyone else. Also, why the limited pics on the page? There are loads of images on the Banksy site which would look great on the Insta page.
The account was used to unveil the daily artworks that comprised Better Out Than In in October 2013. The handle was different back then - @banksyny - perhaps because the @banksy handle was unavailable at the time, but it is the same account.

The Art of BAST, by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 11, 2018 19:39:12 GMT 1, Another poster (in colour) was produced at the same time, depicting the cover of Revolucion De Papel with Inspector Clouseau. That image was used for a t-shirt as well.
The second print doesn't actually depict the cover of Revolucion De Papel. The book cover is a cropped version of the print imagery.

New book out now - "The Street Art World", by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 11, 2018 19:03:20 GMT 1, I remember that article by Rachel Corbett. The discussion of "rescuing" street art works - be it through preservation on-site or removal - is very interesting, and is something I bring up in my first book. Also, I am currently working on an anthology chapter that discusses street art removals in relation to copyright law. I also noticed this article, where the club owner says it was one of 6 Banksy pieces in the club. I'm surprised that some enterprising sort hasn't gone searching for there remains. I'm fairly sure the building they are in will be demolished in the near future.

Banksy sign, by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 11, 2018 18:49:46 GMT 1, Is this definitely a Banksy? Itโs not on his website. Itโs on the โBanksyโ Instagram page but Iโve always had that down to be an unofficial page. As far as I was aware he is not openly on social media and only โverifiesโ the street prices are his by posting pics on his website as far as I know the banksy Instagram is his, or his PR peoples thing, interesting point re- verification, not thought about it, until....... now :-) This is his instagram one right? www.instagram.com/banksy/

New book out now - "The Street Art World", by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 11, 2018 9:05:04 GMT 1, Not connected in any but just a thought I had about rescuing old Banksy works. I was just thinking that the original 'laugh now' was painted all over the walls of a club in Brighton called the ocean rooms. That club is now closed and has been closed for years. I then decided to Google it and found the works were bought in 2008 for ยฃ200k by that Keszlar chap who rips off all Banksy's Street works. www.artnet.com/magazineus/features/corbett/keszler-banksy-10-12-11_detail.asp?picnum=9 I remember that article by Rachel Corbett.

Tagging/vandalizing street art, by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 10, 2018 18:51:35 GMT 1, Tagging is one of the laziest forms of graffiti. Its bad enough when its on its own but worse when it's over someone else's piece.
In what way do you find tagging to be "lazy"?
Also, you write that tagging is "one of the laziest forms of graffiti". Which other forms of graffiti do you consider "lazy"?

New book out now - "The Street Art World", by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 10, 2018 12:27:42 GMT 1, Totally off-topic, I know, but is that catalogue for sale somewhere?
I actually think the question is very much on-topic, as it is part of the story that these publications have to varying degrees become sought-after by some collectors.
These sometimes come up on the secondary market, but it might also be possible to order directly from Bonhams. There is an "Order the catalogue" link on this page, but I don't know if it will actually work.

3D prints on POW selling out (600 signed In... editions), by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 2, 2018 8:30:33 GMT 1, ... what happened to the book that was going to be published ... the one that was going to settle it once and for all ๐ ... the one with the special 'unique pixel' in each books photographs ...
As with everything Sincura does related to street art, the book seems to have been either an intentional ruse or an unintentional cock-up.
According to their website, a "limited, numbered, run of books will be created ready for dispatch on December 1st [2017]". [...] Once this limited edition run has sold out the books will be available on general sale through selected shops from February 2018".
As far as I am aware, none of this has happened.
I'd be interested to know if those who pre-ordered the book were refunded or are still waiting for the publication to materialise. I'd also be interested in any further information people who pre-ordered the book may have received regarding the delay in publication.

Pest Control COA โข Banksy Print Authentication, by Peter Bengtsen on Aug 1, 2018 11:46:59 GMT 1, Does it really matter when you know you have a genuine print? I have couple with COA...not in my name but never gonna sell so unless pest control cease to be because banksy is proved to 3D and no-one cares anymore I'm not arsed.
Yes it matters if you don't want to sell, mostly for insurance purposes. If you print get's nicked or destroyed and you have the COA it makes proving ownership much less painless
Even if you don't intend to sell, obtaining and holding a COA would also prevent someone with an identically numbered counterfeit print from potentially getting one.

I THINK THE STREET ART MARKET IS DEAD. DO YOU?, by Peter Bengtsen on Jul 27, 2018 12:53:16 GMT 1, I don't want to wade into the debate about the urban art market and which artists' work will be valuable long-term.
However, I do want to make the point that it is important not to conflate - as some of the previous posts on this thread seem to do - the urban art market / the current position of specific artists on that market with the standing of the street art movement as a whole and that of specific artists in "art history".
I began writing about street art as a student more than twelve years ago. In the time that has passed since then, I have seen a significant rise in the number of researchers (art historians as well as scholars from other fields) who are writing about various aspects of the topic - including "urban art" (understood here as the commercial production of artists who also create work in the street or otherwise are associated with the street art world). The number of academic (and popular) publications on street art has similarly increased.
Whether street art will be a part of "art history" is not a question: it already is.
The work has been extensively documented and written about over the past 10-15 years, and judging by the number of emails I am receiving from researchers, PhD candidates and students from around the world, it will continue to be discussed academically for a long time to come.
