Help needed with Royal mail, by stickitup on Jun 3, 2011 13:17:06 GMT 1, the import of art to Japan is not restricted, I have sent work to Japan for exhibition and sale and it was perfectly acceptable. The law on pornography is very tight in Japan and it is without doubt that this is what the restriction relates to (despite japanese comics featuring young looking teenagers engaging in sex and it not being restricted or deemed peadophilic).

Banksy Street Art โข IKEA Punk, by stickitup on Jun 1, 2011 13:09:44 GMT 1, you right Wiz, dealers are full of tricks to get themselves in and out of deals, don't think for a second the "Squeeze" comment was anything more than a good attempt to back out of the deal knowing the two owners would try to snatch a bit more cash out of them. I would also say that the dealers probably knew who their market was and if they could/couldn't sell the thing, it may have been that all parties were aware none of the dealers would part with the cash and so constructed a good scenario to make good TV

Bambi ๐ฌ๐ง Street Art โข Print Release โข Art For Sale, by stickitup on May 27, 2011 12:27:46 GMT 1, the stencils look like they have been cut nicely though, shame the spray technique is not quite as crisp as it might have been - perhaps intentionally. The Burka one is a nice piece

Advice on shipping/possible for sale list, by stickitup on May 19, 2011 12:27:03 GMT 1, oh and the other thing is in Aus if you are getting the goods packed in wood I think the crates need to be made from a wood which is ISPN certified meaning no beasties are living in it.

Advice on shipping/possible for sale list, by stickitup on May 19, 2011 12:23:38 GMT 1, all depends on the price you want to pay, here are companies which specialise in Fine Art Packing:Cadogan Tate, Gander and White, T. Rogers & Co, MartinSpeed, Constantine, Sterling Art Services all are professional art shippers. They will pack the art, ship it, arrange Customs Clearance however it will cost as this will be a dedicated service as oposed to sticking it in a container and shipping it. Not too sure of the tax liability on the import of works of art to Aus, I think you may be able to import pay the VAT and then when you come to move back home reclaim the import VAT, at UK customs you will need proof of purchase to claim the goods are British Returned Goods, all worth thinking about.

VAT - Answers from the horses mouth, by stickitup on Apr 26, 2011 16:43:10 GMT 1, @nigelsg, if she buys and brings them back in her luggage there is an amount of goods anyone can bring back as gifts, I would say it is unwise to look like you are smuggling though. Now, the thing is it is most likely that she would have to pay import VAT at 5%, usually you have to prove how much you paid for the item to satisfy Customs to the VAT liability, however I am unsure of specific details, but I think the fact that your Sis temporarily moved and is now returning bares no relation to the import duty. I once had a plank of wood which I took the States and left there by acccident, and then got my friend to send it back to me, I had a hell of a job 1) convincing TNT that it had no value and 2) VAT had already been paid on the thing un the UK, in fact I think it was worth about ยฃ4 but had 2 big holes drilled in it - anyway eventually they conceded when I unwrapped it and showed them...as they were going to charge me ยฃ30 for Customs clearance and duty on the item

Slightly Damaged Beejoir Turin Scam - Help, by stickitup on Apr 18, 2011 11:19:32 GMT 1, I had a similar dink in a print of mine and was in touch with a member of the guild of paper restorers and she told me this, however I accept no responsibility for damage you do in folllowing my instruction: buy a household hand water sprayer like you might use if you are a keen gardener, set the spray to mist as much as possible gently spray a couple of times over the area that is creased, then sandwich the print inbetween two sheets of blotting paper and sandwhich the 3 sheets inbetween card or flat wood and put a heavy weight on it. check it in 3-6 months and it should be fine. The key to this process in my opinion is that you do not over wet the paper, so do be carefull when spraying, also check that no build up of water has formed near the sprayer nozzle and so no drips fall onto your beloved print. Hope that helps

WTB: Looking to Build a Small Collection, by stickitup on Apr 7, 2011 12:05:30 GMT 1, Try looking at US based artists Shep, Futura 2000, Twist, Seen, Retna. May be worth supporting your domestic artists as well as paying homage to the Graffiti artists who kick started vandalising the streets in the name of art.

work on paper fs, by stickitup on Apr 6, 2011 16:24:52 GMT 1, I'll try to be constructive here, but your style whilst very individual seems to be a little hard to appeal to a broader spectrum of buyer. Its not my taste, but then I am an artist and think my art is more appealing to me, however with this in mind I have no info on your background, where you have shown your work or any publicity on you or your work. This does limit it as an investment of any kind or something I see beyond the desireability of an aesthetically pleasing work, which unfortunately as I have said, it does not apeal to my notions of aesthetic beauty or desire. I do wish you luck though
