Visit NEW YORK 🇺🇲 Street Art, Galleries, Events, by danvnuk on Jun 25, 2007 16:45:40 GMT 1, I went a few years back - don't know about street art etc,... but...here's what sticks in my mind as interesting...
Little Italy, Chinatown etc are well worth a wander around - think of every film you've ever seen set in the back streets, with the Fire Escapes and all that - really cool.
The Greenwich Village and Soho areas are both cool too.
Obvious tourist place, but the view from the top is unbelievable- The Empire State Building
Shops - loads - but again, Saks and Barneys stand out (Wasnt keen on Maceys)
Eating - Balthazar was cool:- www.balthazarny.com/
Drinking - Campbell Apartments in Grand Central Station was good www.worldsbestbars.com/city/new-york/campbell-apartment-new-york.htm
None of this might be to your taste, Its huge and there's loads happening 24/7 , so I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time and find your own stuff to do.

Which is the greatest Banksy image and why?, by danvnuk on Jul 5, 2007 15:39:35 GMT 1, I've always had a soft spot for the baby with the alphabet blocks spelling 'Kill People'
I also like the kid painting "What?" in Pink.

stolenspace - poor show, by danvnuk on Jun 29, 2007 23:37:15 GMT 1, I got talking to the guy standing next to me - seeing as I was on my own and bored- and during the course of the conversation asked him if he frequented the forum....he did and turns out it was Hardcanvas. Dan, Absolute pleasure talking to you! Thank your girlfriend for getting us beer. Shame we mised out on a copy. Such is life...
Likewise Andy, Extremely interesting chatting to you about Art, House Prices, and assorted other topics (did Sienna Miller get mentioned?!!!) - Blimey, that WAS a long 3 hours queueing wasn't it?!
Only regret, no print and not enough free beer. I'll pass on the thanks to the GF ;D

stolenspace - poor show, by danvnuk on Jun 28, 2007 23:15:51 GMT 1, I was there and can echo the comments above. Queued for 2.5 hours and then the only communcation we received was "Sold out". Really disapointing. They processed orders at a rate that was almost comedy. 150 minutes. 50 prints sold. That's one transaction every 3 minutes. It was a waste of an evening, sadly. On the plus side - chattted to some great people from the forums in the queue. Congratulations to everyone who got a print - you did well!
Have to second this - seeing as I queued for 2 hours with Hardcanvas with both of us becoming more incredulous the longer we queued and didnt move at all, Just couldnt get near the gallery, seemed to be a free for all near the front of people just rucking up and walking in.
Although, was extremely nice to meet you and chatting to you fella - pity neither of us could bag a print.
I popped back after a couple of more beers next door, when it was quieter - the Connor Harringtons were really nice - as was a small work in the corner on the same wall as the D-Face bullet ridden pieces - no idea who it was by, but it was incredibly elaborate - the more I looked at it - the more detail I noticed.

first print you purchased..., by danvnuk on Feb 13, 2007 23:00:52 GMT 1, A signed Bombhugger in 2004, for the stupendous price of £225 (framed!)
I'd read about Banksy somewhere (cant remember where now), and then seemed to start noticing his work around London - The Che's in Portobello Road and the various images in Brick Lane mostly....but I paticuarly liked the BombHugger image in Brick Lane - so, tracked one down and bought one.....never thought the prices would go through the roof like they have.
The biggest regret is that canvases, sprayed on packing crates etc and the life size cardboard Flying Coppers were available for (with hindsight) silly money.

Banksy The Movie, by danvnuk on Jan 19, 2007 10:53:49 GMT 1, Perhaps we are already in it?
I seem to remember whilst queueing for my Flag print at 7am in the morning some guys filming the queue on Handheld Digi Cams (Not the Channel 4 crew)
If so - can I have a starring role as Bradd Pitt lookalike, ;D Yellow scarf clad, 30th from the front, tired, freezing cold and wanting to get a McDonalds Sausage and Egg Mcmuffin and coffee, but can't lose his place in the queue guy.
I can play a follow up role of cheesed off - didnt get a Banksy 'when I grow up - now worth 15,000 zillion sheckles' flyer despite being near the front of the queue.
I must have been distracted by my lingering looks at McDonalds across the road - mmmmmmmm - evil corporation.....but tasty.
This part was written for me.

JD , by danvnuk on Feb 8, 2007 23:11:21 GMT 1,
As posted on page 20 of the 'Get Your Banksy's out for the Lads' thread.
Cost me £109 to have it framed, from Chartwell Gallery in Southend.....I can't recommend that Framers enough - did a great job, really took their time finding out what I wanted - and were very nice.

JD , by danvnuk on Jan 5, 2007 15:41:50 GMT 1, normal windows cut out about 98% of UV so unless its in direct sunlight or outside UV isn't going to buy you much - apart from a much higher framing bill danvnuk, where did you get it framed ?
I work in London and in the past have used a Framers in Holborn called Newgate Gallery(see the thread 'Get your Banskys out for the lads' for a photo of my Flags framed by them) They seem really good and fast (2 day turnaround ) but it's getting the framed print home on the tube and then the Fenchurch St line - Fun!
Soooo, due to its size, my JD is being framed by an altogether more local Framer to where I live - Chartwell Gallery in Southend.
www.chartwellgallery.co.uk/
Oh, and Its just normal float glass in mine.
Never used them before, but they've been in business for 27 years - so they must be good I imagine- and the people in there were incredibly helpful, friendly and enthusiastic. Guess I'll find out when I pick it up next week ;D

JD , by danvnuk on Jan 4, 2007 15:23:36 GMT 1, My JD is in the framers as we speak - should be collecting it towards the end of next week.
After spending 30 mins in there holding up various colours mounts and bits of frames to it - I opted for a cream coloured mount to contrast against the white paper - The mount will overlap the deckled edges by a few mm (call me a Phillistine, but I prefer it looking neat and squared off) Ive gone for a matt black square wooden frame.
I'll post a pic when I collect it -
No idea where Im gonna hang it - it's a monster. I Love it though, it has a "Tattoo" look about it.
Oh If anyones interested it's costing me £109 - thats for according to the receipt "hinged onto museum board, mount onto Barley, and Frame - float glass"

BRP print show, by danvnuk on Feb 13, 2008 14:04:14 GMT 1, oh man - I have a right dilemma....it's a friends birthday, and I agreed to go ages back - it's local, so not in London....
The show starts at 4pm - so don't know whether to goto BRP - then leave at 7pm'ish to get to my friends drinks for 8pm'ish.....but then, once I'm drinking and into the swing of things I won't want to leave early
What time are people planning on getting there?
I need to consider this carefully.
