Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by met on Jan 25, 2020 3:18:40 GMT 1, I have an A4 'Americans working overhead' A4 sized (Roughly) sticker. It's been flat stored since I've had it. Anyone have any idea of value ? I've seen small ones 15x10cm for ยฃ100 and A3 sized ones for over ยฃ1000, but can't find a price for an A4 one (Roughly 21 x 29cm) Edit: Back Photos added:
What is the exact provenance of your sticker? From whom did you acquire it, and when?
I'm unfamiliar with A4 versions having been released by Pictures On Walls.

Banksy GDP staff gift prints, by met on Jan 23, 2020 18:10:20 GMT 1, Nice print... looks like better paper than the free handouts. Is there an edition number, or just a dedication? Just dedication but there was 14 given out now to find a lovely frame, any recommendations?
Thank you for following up and posting a photo link to your gift.
__________
In fairness, I would suggest you're owed an apology by two or three of our members. The manner in which you were previously treated was at times gratuitously rude.
Of course it's always advisable to remain vigilant on this forum. There are plenty of scammers around, and individuals otherwise looking to deceive โ often by using more than one forum account and username. Many of us have witnessed cases where people have been ripped off, misled, or drawn like fools into tiresome and futile exchanges with trolls.
But in our interactions with online strangers, there's also a clear difference between:
(i) behaving cautiously; and
(ii) being unduly hostile towards fellow members, as if the assumption should be that everybody is guilty until they prove themselves innocent.
The first option is wise and reasonable. The second option alienates, unnecessarily creating an unpleasant forum atmosphere.
If you were of a more sensitive disposition, I imagine the initial reception here could easily have pushed you to delete your account. And that would have been to our loss.
__________
Regarding framing, if you're based in Greater London, an easy recommendation would be Darbyshire* in Islington, near Angel tube station.
Have a chat with them and hear what they have to say โ preferably in person, so you can also see the actual studio and get a better feel for the business.
[Some members recommend Mister Frame Man. For different reasons, that isn't a path I myself would take.]
Further thoughts:
1. With a gift like yours from Banksy, you should avoid any temptation to skimp on the framing. Psychologically prepare yourself to spend ยฃ500+. It's a proper investment, but one you're unlikely to regret in the years or decades to come.
2. Go for archival everything (i.e. 100% reversible). And get this specified in writing by your framer, along with all the details of the specific materials to be used.
3. In terms of glazing, high-end acrylic is preferable to glass. My fallback recommendation for anything of significant financial or sentimental value is Tru Vue Optium Museum Acrylic*. It is anti-UV, non-reflective, shatter-resistant, abrasion-resistant, lightweight and anti-static.
4. I advise float-mounting the artwork (perhaps with a slightly raised float-mount), instead of matting.
Here's an advantage with float-mounting: To the extent there's any fading from light damage to the print over time, the discolouration will occur more evenly and less noticeably than if a window mat were used (which would cover the print along its borders).
[Anti-UV glazing has the benefit of blocking out most UV rays, but not all of them. It also won't protect your artwork against visible light, which is also harmful.]
5. Consider a simple, minimal style like a white box frame with a relatively thin moulding width.
6. The post below with a template email may assist when reaching out to framers for a quote:
urbanartassociation.com/post/1670827/thread
7. Congratulations and good luck.

Banksy Radar Rat โข Dirty Funker 12", by met on Jan 22, 2020 14:26:41 GMT 1, Banksy LP Dirty Funker Future Radar Rat Brown Edition PM Your Offers. Let's do a live one instead ยฃ3
Let's go with ยฃ0.00.
__________
To collect unauthorised knockoffs like these records is to condone theft from artists.
The principle here is no different than corporate advertisers, brands and retailers who repeatedly steal designs and imagery from creatives, without attribution or compensation. It is unscrupulous, mercenary behaviour. And harmful to the affected artists. The latter should receive our support, not further slaps to the face.
My suggestion would therefore be as follows:
The trade of such cruddy merchandise has no legitimate place on an art forum.

Banksy Print, Canvas, WANTED, by met on Jan 21, 2020 20:17:11 GMT 1, Were you able to inspect that Petrol Bomb poster in person to verify it was legitimate? __________ It isn't always straightforward to determine whether these posters are genuine โ as opposed to well-executed fakes, sometimes accompanied by faux provenance documentation (including where the relevant documentation might in itself be genuine). By examining regular photos alone, I don't believe it's possible to confirm genuineness with any degree of certainty. And the last thing a novice Ban ksy buyer should be encouraged to do is rely on assertions of authenticity from some stranger on a message board. Even if that stranger is a longstanding member, happens to be honest and is selling in good faith, they too could easily have been duped by a previous seller. Some good points made! I am having this issue at the moment... I have had a few members PM me with various bits and pieces for sale. I am only communicating with the ones that have a good post history and are happy to meet face to face. I mean, I cant imagine anything worse than spending ยฃ700 on something and finding out its fugazi..... I am now curious, have any members on here ever been stung? Story time?!
Sounds like a reasonable approach.
The chances of not getting ripped off tend to improve when dealing with a seller who isn't cagey about disclosing their full name and contact details โ including telephone number, email, and/or home or work address.
Picking up on what you've also mentioned, I believe it's usually possible to get a good sense of where a forum member's priorities and values lie by:
(i) accessing their profile; (ii) clicking 'View this member's recent posts.'; and (iii) reading one or two pages of their recent posts.
__________
Still, the above precautions are a long way from foolproof.
While a seller's openness and helpful contributions will of course be reassuring, these are just possible indicators of integrity. And solely of that seller's own integrity.
Yet plenty of collectibles on the market will have had more than a single previous owner.
In such cases, the fact your seller might be a good person offers insufficient protection. You would still be forced to gamble โ and usually without access to all the information needed to properly assess the risks, because an item's full history quite often isn't disclosed to buyers. [Not only are these buyers then left with gaps in provenance, they might even be ignorant of their ignorance, i.e. blissfully unaware that links in the chain of ownership were withheld from them.]
The decision to buy could therefore require partial reliance on faith instead of evidence. In other words, with each of these acquisitions, you could be betting blind on the following:
- that none of the previous owners (including those you may have never met and/or whose very existence you're oblivious to) behaved dishonestly in connection with the relevant item; or alternatively
- that your seller is trustworthy, and also possesses the specialist knowledge or expertise to know the item they acquired (and are reselling to you) is genuine, rather than just a credible-looking fake.
__________
Following due diligence, you may be satisfied regarding authenticity and happy to go ahead with specific purchases.
But before taking the leap with anything expensive, do consider whether you in turn could make other collectors comfortable enough to buy the items if you decided to resell them in the future.

Banksy Art FRAMED, by met on Jan 20, 2020 16:28:18 GMT 1, Framed No Ball Games - Thoughts??
With the composition (including its large areas of negative space) and restricted palette of an image like No Ball Games, simplicity in framing is often key.
Although there have been many exceptions, when it comes to matting, I generally dislike the use of more than a single layer.
In this instance, the Banksy print looks to have been quadruple-matted. But especially when combined with different coloured mats, the appearance for me becomes gimmicky and obtrusive. Indeed, the black and red bevelled edges draw my eye outwards, away from the art itself. They distract rather then complement.
[By way of side note, multiple mats in contrasting colours appear to be popular with a fair number of collectors right now, especially younger ones. Likewise with coloured spacers. What I do suspect, however, is that these style choices risk being seen as dated within a decade. To my mind, they're akin to the naffness of "urban" drips and splatters added to window mats and mouldings โ a godawful style once championed by outfits like Mister Frame Man.]
__________
While the above are just personal preferences you and I may disagree upon, we probably share more common ground in relation to glazing.
For fine art and photography that has a high financial or sentimental value, I strongly recommend switching to premium acrylic or glass. Its non-reflective properties will make a world of difference to your viewing experience. Nobody I know who's made this additional investment has ever regretted it.

Early Banksy Art, by met on Jan 20, 2020 0:22:17 GMT 1, Not seen the polar bear holding the penguin above the Banksy Tag before
Looking at these two images again, unless Photoshop trickery was involved, it seems the polar bear and penguin were sprayed over the last of Banksy's six apes positioned to the right of the rats.
My guess is that the top (chronologically later) photo was taken by the creator of the polar bear and penguin shortly after completion.

Cleon Peterson Print, Original, WANTED, by met on Jan 19, 2020 23:46:15 GMT 1,
The secondary market for Cleon Peterson originals seems neither sufficiently large nor active enough to offer a valuation you could comfortably rely upon if looking to sell.
Even among the artist's collectors and with auction houses, estimates you may receive for this painting could easily be all over the place.
Your best bet may be to:
(i) liaise with Peterson's primary dealers (e.g. Over The Influence, Library Street Collective, New Image Art, or ALICE Gallery);
(ii) find out what originals of a comparable medium, size, composition and/or subject matter are actually selling for (as opposed to their listed prices); and
(iii) work from those figures.

Daniel Arsham ๐บ๐ธ New York โข Eroded Future Relic, by met on Jan 19, 2020 16:48:48 GMT 1, No one is seriously considering this, right? Stop bullying people over the art they like.
Forgive me if I appear to make a mountain out of a molehill. Your post may have been just a throwaway quip, but the issue raised is an important one.
__________
If they're to retain any meaning at all, words like "bullying" (or harassment" or violence") need to be used scrupulously and with due sparingness.
Criticism about art on an art message board is hardly bullying, is it? And whether or not sarcasm or mockery are used to get one's point across doesn't alter this fact.
A message board is precisely the kind of platform where people should be prompted to express their thoughts in a forthright manner. Overly-diplomatic language and disengagement should be left for dinner parties โ or for other contexts where there's a general consensus that social harmony (and not offending) take priority over education, thinking and the voicing of honestly-held opinions.
__________
Disapproving comments about artworks and artists are in my view among the most essential posts we have on this forum. For less-experienced collectors in particular.
These posts by detractors, especially when accompanied by reasoning, push us to question and reassess our own taste. And for an art collector to continue maturing, their preferences must be constantly challenged. [So if anyone gets upset when art choices they make are picked apart, then it really is in their interest to build up their mental resilience.]
Each of us should keep asking ourselves, "Why exactly do I like this art? What makes it any good?" And, if different, "Why exactly do I want to acquire it?"
I've tried to emphasise the same point on different occasions, including here and here. The ability to answer the above questions is paramount for anyone who considers themselves an art enthusiast. Moreover, it can often be an antidote to making unwise impulse purchases โ whether due to the fear of missing out, being swept up by momentary hype, and/or herd instinct.
__________
Regrettably, there have always been efforts on this forum to dissuade unflattering posts. Attempts to shut down open discussion are typically made by collectors of the relevant work or artist, those with (often undisclosed) vested interests, or possibly well-intentioned but misguided individuals who just want others to restrict themselves to fawning enthusiasm.
Some members might even be discouraged from engaging in critical thinking and writing anything critical about art. Perhaps their hesitation comes after seeing others being accused of so-called negativity, or confronted with thought-terminating clichรฉs โ like the truly cretinous, "If you don't like it, why bother commenting?" or "Haters gonna hate."
Whenever remarks like these succeed in silencing members, or otherwise hindering the free exchange of competing viewpoints, I believe that is to the detriment of this forum and its readership.

Invader restauration, by met on Jan 18, 2020 11:25:55 GMT 1, We have a damaged RVE to restore. Is there anyway to restore it ?
just go to 2 restauration shop (more for painting) both told me that the fiber of the print is broken
it can be flatten but it's not removable. Any advice to restore it ?
Regards
Yes.
Take or send the print to a reputable, specialised paper restorer and conservator.
Do the research. Google is your friend here, but you can also consult museums or high-end galleries (ones that are experienced with works on paper) in your area for recommendations.
The humidification and flattening process, if competently done, will make those minor handling creases near-invisible to the naked eye.
__________
Make sure to take plenty of photographs beforehand.
And, along with a price-quote request, get in writing the specific proposed actions of the paper restorer.
It might sound like overkill and stating the blindingly obvious, but you'll want to expressly instruct them to not flatten out the print's blindstamp. That once happened to me at a reputable outfit, Graham Bignell Studio in London, UK. Presumably down to an oversight by a newer or simple-minded member of staff โ but the experience still left me baffled, and with a feeling that I'd somehow upset the gods.

Early Banksy Art, by met on Jan 17, 2020 14:41:14 GMT 1, Not seen the polar bear holding the penguin above the Banksy Tag before I wonder if Banksy did the Polar Bear piece? I think probably, since it is clever and well executed. But does the average person know that Polar Bears live in the Arctic and Penguins in the Antarctic so are never seen together?
This comment surprised me, because I would argue there's close to zero chance the polar bear and penguin were created by Banksy.
Look at the aesthetics of the piece. It's that annoying, fussy style one gets from Photoshop 'Posterize' or similar software (which the likes of Martin Whatson are so heavily dependent on).
As for the tone and subject matter here, they too are at odds with Banksy's work. On the rare occasion the artist resorts to soppy, it's with children (e.g. Girl with Balloon), not animals. And I don't recall any cutesy animal imagery he's ever done without biting irony or cynicism also thrown into the mix.
For me, the polar bear and penguin are unfortunate, incongruent additions to the train. They fail to complement the rats and apes.

This comment surprised me, because I would argue there's close to zero chance the polar bear and penguin were created by Ban ksy. Look at the aesthetics of the piece. It's that annoying, fussy style one gets from Photoshop 'Posterize' or similar software (which the likes of Martin What son are so heavily dependent on). As for the tone and subject matter here, they too are at odds with Ban ksy's work.

Banksy Print, Canvas, WANTED, by met on Jan 16, 2020 8:42:42 GMT 1, Good shout. I know a gallery that is selling one but I don't want to pay gallery prices. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Do we know if there are fake Peckham Rocks floating around? Or have we not yet reached that level of degeneracy yet? Your best place to buy one is on the forum, with the POW tube and invoice youโre looking at between ยฃ500-700. A member on here was selling a petrol bomb for around ยฃ700 which was legit not sure if its still available. You can pick up forgive us/exit through the gift shop posters for ยฃ50-100, make sure to get the flyer pack and envelope. Walled off box sets are also a good shout with purchase invoice for ยฃ350-400. Prices of these have come down a lot but long term they will probably do quite well once the flippers run out of ammo. Peckham rocks have never appealed to me but given the price of other Banksy ephemera they are probably fairly good value, last time I checked they were about ยฃ60-70. Were you able to inspect that Petrol Bomb poster in person to verify it was legitimate?
__________
It isn't always straightforward to determine whether these posters are genuine โ as opposed to well-executed fakes, sometimes accompanied by faux provenance documentation (including where the relevant documentation might in itself be genuine).
By examining regular photos alone, I don't believe it's possible to confirm genuineness with any degree of certainty.
And the last thing a novice Banksy buyer should be encouraged to do is rely on assertions of authenticity from some stranger on a message board. Even if that stranger is a longstanding member, happens to be honest and is selling in good faith, they too could easily have been duped by a previous seller.

Banksy Flying Copper Print, by met on Jan 16, 2020 7:49:06 GMT 1, Iโd imagine the prices your quote were sold pre madness? This is a ยฃ15k print. I wouldnโt sell it for less, if no one is willing to pay that privately Iโd consign to auction and probably do better. There are decent auctioneers whoโd probably offer 2-5% seller fees for Banksy prints and nominal catalogue fees. If recommending the auction route to secure guaranteed-minimum net proceeds, consider the following:
What is the likelihood of the seller finding a reputable auction house willing to accept their unsigned print on consignment with a ยฃ15,000+ low estimate and reserve price?

Banksy Captured Book โข Steve Lazarides , by met on Jan 9, 2020 10:54:14 GMT 1, Bullshit. I prefer Lazarides photos of Banksyโs work before a Banksy print, any day. I have had a massive Lazarides photo on my wall since 2006. No money involved, I stole it. It was worth it ๐๐ป No, he can not have it back, however he could sign it ๐
You previously referred to this theft in the thread, NEW LAZ SITE LIVE WITH SIGNED BANKSY PHOTOS*:
He is a good photographer, I love his images. I have had an massive one on my wall for over 10 years. I truly love it, if I hadnโt stolen it already I would buy it, if I could afford it. It is truly lovely
What were the circumstances in which you took the large photograph?
__________
I am hoping I've misunderstood, because a guest choosing to steal artwork from the home or business of their host would test my faith in humanity.
It is the kind of decision that can also have a serious impact on victims, on their financial and mental wellbeing.
One can imagine all the efforts put into organising a decent art display or exhibition: the significant time involved, the energy required, the upfront costs incurred beforehand. Now imagine what it would feel like for those efforts to be repaid by one of your visitors stealing from you. In isolation, this would probably be demoralising for just about any artist, curator or gallerist. And when added to the other obstacles, discouragements and knockdowns they already have to face on a daily basis in their respective professions, I'm guessing the cumulative effect might be enough to push the less-resilient among them to despair, perhaps even career-change.
__________
It's in the art world's interest that talented individuals be encouraged โ rather than stolen from or otherwise treated with contempt (regardless of any subsequent bids to rationalise such behaviour).
When someone is doing their job well, being innovative, why make their life more difficult and depressing? My vote would be to support them, or at least try not to sap their spirit.
Again, please correct me if I've misinterpreted your words or the context.

Banksy Golf Sale Print, by met on Jan 7, 2020 18:24:41 GMT 1, Looking to sell an unsigned (red stamp) golf sale. Is in excellent condition. Comes with COA/PC. Framed to museum standards. U.S. based. Asking $11K USD. I'm also interested in cash + trade for an invader LA kit. I'm having issues uploading photos to the site this morning. There are some photos of it on the wall with some other Banksy's in the framed thread. DM me for pics.
Hi James, We have spoken before on the golf sale, I know of an invader original street pice that I could get if youโd consider that as part payment for your GS. Best Andrew
There seems to be a puzzling disconnect here:
1. Seller expresses an interest in an Invasion Kit (LA 2018) โ the authenticity of which can be verified to a reasonable degree, and which would normally be accompanied by supporting provenance documentation.
2. It sounds like you might instead be offering the seller some non-authenticatable tiles โ purportedly removed from the street by a random person who is also claiming those tiles were originally installed by Invader.

Invader Aladdin Sane Print, by met on Jan 6, 2020 4:26:40 GMT 1, Up for sale & offers. I would like to sell for 15k usd, shipped in frame. Open to all offers, but not desperate to sell. Edition 65 Signed & numbered by the artist Dimensions: 45 x 43 cm 4 color hand pulled screen print on Somerset satin white 300gsm paper. Foiled white eyes & embossed. [...] [...]
Comments and queries that may assist all parties:
1. Did you purchase the print directly from Pictures On Walls? If not, how many previous owners were there?
For some collectors, the less often a print has changed possession, the more desirable it is. Psychological factors aside, fewer owners typically means fewer times the artwork was handled โ and therefore the less likely it is to have incurred damage.
2. What is the condition of the print?
3. Is the print accompanied by any supporting provenance documentation? If so, please describe.
4. Who is the framer of the print?
Identifying the framer will let potential buyers make a better-informed judgement call about the quality of framing and the types of materials (standard or archival) likely to have been used.
5. Can you provide details about the glazing (brand, product name or code)?
This information would allow relevant features to be checked, like whether the glazing is anti-UV, non-reflective, anti-static, etc.
6. Since you plan to ship framed, presumably the glazing is acrylic?
In case it's glass, note that (even if carefully packed) shipping framed will be high-risk. Many seasoned buyers would consider such a risk to be disproportionate, a false economy of time and convenience. Cracking or shattering of the glass during transit could easily turn into a headache for you and the buyer.
[As a separate point, always make sure to double-check the exclusion-of-liability clauses in your shipping contract. Plenty of courier companies will happily take your money for both shipping and insurance, but then later reject your loss, damage or destruction claim โ because the artwork is one of their excluded items, which absolves them of all responsibility.]
7. Besides price, the novelty matting might impede a swift sale.
An informed collector or dealer will likely insist on checking the print in person, or having it checked on their behalf by someone local. This will be to assess the level of light damage, if any (from both UV and visible light), that is noticeable when the matt is removed. In addition, they'll probably want to verify the type and amount of adhesive used on the print.
It's therefore worth clarifying whether inspection outside of the frame is an option. And, if so, in which city and country the print is located.
8. What you may end up finding is that, with a private transaction, it's simpler, faster, and perhaps even financially more advantageous for you to sell the print unframed.
9. Good luck.

Early Banksy Art, by met on Jan 2, 2020 2:34:19 GMT 1, I donโt have any pictures of it. I found it on EBay.. Looked interesting. Thanks Ha ha.. There we go! Another one bites the dust. "Found it on Ebay". Should belong in the trash, not in this thread. Thanks Mike!
Good point.
The strength of this Obscure Banksy pieces? thread, started by vivalarepublique in 2013, derives from its purity โ the fact it's dedicated to previously-unseen or rarely-seen works by Banksy.
That means it is intended for:
(i) confirmed Banksys; and
(ii) other works, but where the relevant posters are reasonably certain, on an informed basis, that such works are by Banksy.
Given the thread is a rare non-commercial haven on the forum, it would be regrettable if it were diluted by further ignorant or speculative posts along the lines of, "Hey guys, what do you think of this piece I found on [eBay / Catawiki / random website]?"
Many other threads already exist for these types of questions, the most prominent now being the one below:

Banksy GDP staff gift prints, by met on Dec 29, 2019 7:05:26 GMT 1, The level of aggression expressed by a couple of people here has left me embarrassed and confused.
It seems like an over-the-top reaction to anything MrD has actually written. I went so far as to double-check each one of their 9 posts. [The only thing I'd criticise is the unhelpful deletion of the opening post in this thread.]
Even when it was suggested, without clear evidence, that MrD was a "lying cunt", they still responded with comparative civility and good humour. Only for someone else to then call them a "sarcastic c***".
__________
So, what's going on?
What is it I'm missing? Because mere suspicion that something's off doesn't warrant this kind of hostility.
And all I see right now is a recipe for alienating people โ especially newer members, i.e. potential future contributors who are most likely to be chased away by the ugliness.

A1, A0 Portfolio and Sleeves, by met on Dec 29, 2019 5:52:36 GMT 1, Are there any alternatives for bigger prints? I got a few 40x40 prints that I need to put on ice.
Have you checked the first page of the Art Restoration, Art Insurance, Framing Advice board?
See for example the thread titled Help inexpensive way to store larger A0 prints:
urbanartassociation.com/thread/106279/help-inexpensive-store-larger-prints
There's also a broader thread titled Storing of prints:
urbanartassociation.com/thread/39237/storing-prints
It includes a post I wrote regarding bigger works: urbanartassociation.com/post/1590991/thread
__________
In case you have the budget and space for something more permanent and professional, look online for extra-large plan chests.
[Alternative search terms: "plan drawer"; "plan cabinet"; "plan file"; "flat file drawer"; "flat file cabinet"; "flat file drawer cabinet"; "map cabinet"; "horizontal storage drawer".]
Very few retailers offer sizes greater than A0 (1189 x 841 mm; 46.8 x 33.1 inches), but they do exist. The web page for the first link below states they sell plan chests for items up to 2.5 metres wide and 1.6 metres deep (approx. 98.4 x 63 inches):

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by met on Dec 4, 2019 11:29:53 GMT 1, There will often be overlap between the two, but in some cases with Ban ksy artworks, it's fair to distinguish: (i) the original inspiration; and (ii) the source imagery. The photo below falls more into the second category. I'm also just guessing it's the relevant source image โ there isn't certainty on my part. __________ Russian communist revolutionary leader, Vladimir Lenin (1879โ1924), addressing Vsevobuch servicemen at Red Square, Moscow, 25 May 1919. Photo probably taken by the Russian Telegraph Agency (ROSTA), later replaced by TASS *. ["Vsevobuch was the programme of compulsory military training undertaken by men in Communist Russia. It was introduced in 1918 to provide men to fight against opponents of Bolshevik rule and continued until 1923. The scheme was re-introduced in the Second World War after the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union."]Banksy, Red LeninRotate photo angle clockwise by about 20 degrees:
CORRECTION WITH APOLOGIES:
Source image for the Banksy is another painting, not a photograph.
Vladimir Serov (Russian, 1910โ1968), V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power
The setting for this work is Smolny Palace, Petrograd (then capital of Russia) on the night of 7 November 1917 at the Second All-Russian Congress of Soviets of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies. It follows the carefully-timed armed insurrection which had begun earlier in the day in Petrograd โ by the Bolsheviks against the Russian Provisional Government led by Alexander Kerensky.
Serov painted at least three versions of this October Revolution piece. The original in 1947 depicted Joseph Stalin, Felix Dzerzhinsky and Yakov Sverdlov standing on the tribune behind Lenin. That painting was considered so important it was gifted by Soviet officials to Mao Zedong.
Following the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1956, during which the personality cult and dictatorship of Stalin were denounced by Khrushchev, Serov was apparently ordered to exclude Stalin and the other leaders in future paintings of the scene, and to replace them with representatives of the working people.
Vladimir Serov, V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power (possibly 1954)
Vladimir Serov, V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power (date unknown, possibly 1962)
Banksy, Red Lenin, 2007 (flipped horizontally)
NB: There are contradictions with many of the details, images and corresponding dates available on the internet for V.I. Lenin proclaims Soviet power.
In particular, given:
(i) the popularity of these pieces; (ii) the fact they've since been reproduced many times by other artists; and (iii) the general confusion with (and unreliability of) information online,
I am not confident about the dates of the above two Serov works โ or whether Serov himself even painted those specific versions.

Arusha Gallery need reference, by met on Dec 4, 2019 6:44:26 GMT 1, Hey, I'm planning to buy a piece of art from them and they're doing a show 9 months from now which will include the piece. Does anyone work with his gallery and can vouch for them? Arusha Gallery from Edinburgh is a regular participant at the London Art Fair*.
You may be able to take comfort in the due diligence and vetting process that was presumably carried out by LAF. The fact the gallery keeps being invited back to the fair each year is also a positive sign.
I've never bought anything from Arusha, but have communicated with the staff in person and by email on three or four occasions. They seemed professional and courteous enough. At the time, I had taken an interest in the techniques used by one of the gallery's represented artists, Ilona Szalay*.

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by met on Dec 3, 2019 18:01:34 GMT 1, There will often be overlap between the two, but in some cases with Banksy artworks, it's fair to distinguish:
(i) the original inspiration; and
(ii) the source imagery.
The photo below falls more into the second category. I'm also just guessing it's the relevant source image โ there isn't certainty on my part.
__________
Russian communist revolutionary leader, Vladimir Lenin (1879โ1924), addressing Vsevobuch servicemen at Red Square, Moscow, 25 May 1919. Photo probably taken by the Russian Telegraph Agency (ROSTA), later replaced by TASS*.
["Vsevobuch was the programme of compulsory military training undertaken by men in Communist Russia. It was introduced in 1918 to provide men to fight against opponents of Bolshevik rule and continued until 1923. The scheme was re-introduced in the Second World War after the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union."]

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by met on Dec 3, 2019 9:49:13 GMT 1, the background of this one from the same Poll Tax riots seems to fit the style of skyline, traffic lights etc from the original Banksy painting.
inefficiencyof โ A quick follow-up.
I resized and cropped the poll tax riot photo you found with the skyline, and flipped it horizontally:

Gonefellow ๐ฌ๐ง Print Release โข Street Art โข Art For Sale, by met on Dec 2, 2019 16:33:31 GMT 1, Only reason why I am even commenting is because every time I click new threads this pops up due to all the spamming from this artists hype team and some actual fans of his work. One word replys of nonsense to bump the thread. Where are the moderators when you need them. Looking from an outsider perspective this print seems much more honest than his last works decent drawing study of a personal nature. His other pieces more along the Banksy follower path as many more have done over the years. So props to gonefellow for making something different. That being said this print would work more as a Lower end edition with maybe some unique variants hand touched. Making this image this large of an edition with that pricetag sets you up to fail. Even with all the false Bumping the thread to 6 page hype nobody is that gullible. I know many quality artists with quality images that cant sell that expensive of an edition and large run. Andy can have the biggest mailing list there is and best marketing tactics but people and collectors are smarter with their money these days. Please stop spamming this thread so I can actually read about some editions that matter outside this forum. Love this print came from an forum member and not raining on anyones parade just tired of the worthless Hype.
My own opinion about UAA moderation is that, the less of it coming from forum staff, the better.
For the most part, the collective membership can moderate itself. A sufficient number of competing priorities and values are represented here, offering a reasonably healthy system of checks and balances.
__________
Regarding the bumping of threads like this one, I'm not really bothered โ whether it's by detractors, indifferent observers, fans, or even people who have a vested interest, e.g. those who happen to be mates with the artist.
It is actually laudable when artists are supported by forum members with whom they have a business or personal connection. That's what contacts and friends are for. I only become uncomfortable when such an interest or connection hasn't been expressly disclosed beforehand. Because, at that point, the relevant member knows (or should know) their expressions of praise may be deemed misleading by omission. And therefore deceitful.
__________
As for Playboy, what it demonstrates to me is an absence of technical skill. We may hold different positions on the subject (perhaps only in terms of degree) โ but, to my eye, Gonefellow isn't very competent at drawing. They appear untrained. At the same time, the work lacks the charm and/or distinctiveness of strong outsider art.
Focusing now on the concept of this piece, I think it's okay. Humour is present. And, like yourself, I find it encouraging that Gonefellow seems to be moving away from Banksy fan art.
__________
In case others are attracted to subversive bunny-ear imagery, check out the photo below by the more-than-capable Floria Sigismondi*, whose film and photography work is consistently arresting:

Martin Whatson - Passรฉ, by met on Dec 2, 2019 7:06:37 GMT 1, Can somebody who's familiar with ballet help explain the title here, Passรฉ? There doesn't seem to be a real connection (at least not one that is apparent to me) between (a) any stage of the passรฉ relevรฉ movement of the legs and (b) the above image. Even less so when taking into account the position of the ballerina's arms. I wondered if Martin Whatson may have just picked a ballet term at random when naming his print, with minimal concern about what the term actually meant. My wife was a ballet dancer most of her life. She said passe is a ballet movement. See link www.liveabout.com/definition-of-passe-1006778
Cheers for this, but my comment referred to a possible disconnect between the actual ballet movement and Martin Whatson's image of the same name.
Take the multiple variations of passรฉ. Then consider every possible freeze-frame snapshot of the movement โ i.e. each sequential stage, from whichever starting position of the feet (like fourth or fifth, whether or not en pointe) until the close.
Do any of them match the image depicted in Whatson's print?
Based on my restricted knowledge of ballet, the answer I arrived at was "No". Admittedly, however, the question itself is pedantic and niche-interest.
