Sub £1000 Original Art, by geoffw on Jan 26, 2010 14:33:47 GMT 1, Mr Jago acrylic on paper: www.stolenspace.com/section.php?xSec=248&xPage=7 £411
Utter bargain by an artist that i'm still mystified is overlooked by many in favour of horrific stencil-by-numbers dross.

Josh Keyes - Jonathan LeVine Gallery - 16th Jan, by geoffw on Jan 26, 2010 12:14:42 GMT 1, Josh Keyes is an artists that I really don't get at all. But I'm clearly alone. Apparently the waiting list at Levine was 400 strong for only 10 paintings.
I quite like his stuff but IMO this is his weakest show to date....Self Portait in particular doesn't look great when studying the details.
When I asked the David B SMith Gallery the wait list for an original was at something like 600 people and that was a year ago...dunno if that list has the same names as Levine, or was passed on etc.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by geoffw on Jan 26, 2010 10:44:29 GMT 1, Maybe a DVD release of the film will donate to it? If Banksy Did a Haiti Print, a Limited Ed. Hand Silk Screened DVD Release, or a Timed Print Release. He'd sell 20,000 Prints in an hour @ $200 ea. Single Handedly saving Haiti. Maybee that's a bit much, but I bet he'd easily sell 10,000- 20,000+ prints if he gave the fans a time released print to Help Save Haiti. Everybody would win Haiti would gain money and attention. and 100,000's of Banksy fans (who were never able to own a print) will get to have one on their wall. Hah, a Banksy and MBW collaboration print(to save haiti) is probably out of the question. But would be great/ironic. given the mondrain print was rubbish. No Santas Ghetto this year. Would make sense for Banksy to help out haiti with his talents. If he's got time to draw on walls in Utah (only to have the work buffed out in days). I'm sure he could find the time to stencil something up for Haiti. As much attention as his work will get on the back streets of frozen park city Utah. I'm sure a Banksy Haiti Print release would deliver/send a message to alot more people than were moved by his street work in Utah. makes sense.
So he raises a bunch of money and.....
Money isn't the issue - the US telethong raised more than £30m. It's getting aid to the people due to messed up infrastrcuture that's the problem.
It's not like the issue needs a bigger profile is it?

Heavy frame on platerboard wall: advice, by geoffw on Jan 22, 2010 13:12:18 GMT 1, Loads of great advice, thanks everyone. Of course I'm bound to bugger it up still ;D
Measure twice, drill once! Get a spirit level, a tape measure and decent drill and you'll be fine. This coming from someone with zero DIY ability and even I managed it ;D

Heavy frame on platerboard wall: advice, by geoffw on Jan 22, 2010 11:58:53 GMT 1, Iv got the same issue. You have to drill the right size hole with a drill about 5/6 mill. Drill past the plasterboard in to the mortar or brick. Then put in a wall plug and fix in a screw, then hang. It's worked for me.
That's all well and good but if they're internal partition walls there is no solid material to drill into.
You can buy self screwing rawplugs with screws designed for plasterboard - it holds my bathroom cabinet up fine and that's heavy!

Eelus Show - The Colour Out of Space - 25th Feb, by geoffw on Jan 18, 2010 12:17:30 GMT 1, Tim Biskup's done and done it far better with his series of female paintings and skulls. It's a little too 'obvious' and although we're talking about one image on a flyer here the combo of that more 'illustration' fine line work with the stencil does nothing for me.
That said, it's one image so I'll be going along as I think E has talent and this show could be an interesting mix.

Eelus Show - The Colour Out of Space - 25th Feb, by geoffw on Jan 18, 2010 10:59:10 GMT 1, Looks a little too like other artists work now with the geometric shapes going on. Still intrigued to see if it's just for the flyer or whether the entire show is like that

Future Tate Collection, by geoffw on Jan 5, 2010 17:40:35 GMT 1, I got to thinking what iconic street art/stencil images(which have been also used on canvas or print) would be in a retrospective.......I'd include Beejoir-LV Child,Banksy-Laugh Now,Mantis-All fall Down,Nick Walker-Apish Angel,Eelus-Shat At,Jef-Sitting Kid and Eine-Scary. Faile Dog would also be a contender.
If we're talking pieces seen on the streets during what might be considering the 'inception' of street art i'd think you'd have to included TheLondonPolice's Lad and maybe even Flying Fortress.
Barcelona 2001-03 you'd see them, D, Miss Van, Microbo everywhere. I'd put them above Eelus for example

Modern Art Market BOOOOOOM!, by geoffw on Dec 9, 2009 12:59:19 GMT 1, Remrbandt and Rapahel are slightly different to what's been mentioned earlier in the thread. The super rich will, by and large always be super rich, it's been that way for years.
The print market has seen a much needed correction.,..giclees for £1.5k is insane. Some galleries still way over charging for a lot of work, both prints and originals.
But in the UK at least the economy is still very rocky. BoE pumping in an extra £25bn...don't confuse banks doing well and share prices with the economy being okay, it's anything but. The house price increase is also a false indicator and widely exaggerated by the survey firms, who also happen to offer mortgages Underlying issues are still there - unemployment, import/export rates, currency valuation. Interest rates will have to be kept low for a while to keep inflation in check.

Kinda sums up every one of your sales threads...how about a skatedeck..

London - "Piffle Tower" & "Digital Cloud", by geoffw on Nov 11, 2009 14:57:33 GMT 1, Thing is the Eiffel Tower was never intended to be what it has become - it was a temporary idea that was then popular with Parisiens so they kept it. It's since become 'iconic' and London already has something like that..the London Eye.
This is a clossal waste of time and money by a crazed buffoon desperate to create some sort of legacy for himself.

Modern Art Market BOOOOOOM!, by geoffw on Nov 6, 2009 12:05:48 GMT 1, The super rich will always be super-rich and buy amongst themselves. It all depends on whether their money was 'on paper' or in the bank ;D If you think the BoE putting £25bn into the economy is the sign of things being okay you're very wrong.
