Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by iamzero on Dec 2, 2012 17:18:44 GMT 1, The ink from the print runs off the paper at the bottom so it would be a shame to lose it with a window mount. Black makes the colours pop better than white though I reckon?

Easy peasy. The black background looks much better. Really makes the art pop out.

oh well in this case the first option (black) seems the best.

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by iamzero on Jan 15, 2013 20:52:39 GMT 1, Depends if its been mounted using water based adhesive? If so it fairly easy to do with a small paintbrush and some de ironised water just use as little water as possible. If they've used Ph7-70 then not so good news.

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by jusdeep on Jan 15, 2013 21:11:29 GMT 1, Take it to your framer and let them do it. Most framers won't charge you to take something out they did the work on, or as we're on the subject re-adhere or flatten out a wavy print. Hopefully it's all done archively and shouldn't be any problems. Generally the process will leave marks of some sort on the back of the print but nothing too bad.

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by blobbydon on Feb 24, 2013 13:56:46 GMT 1, I want to take my float mounted print out of the frame to make it easier to store as I have just bought a plan chest ... I want to leave it stuck to the mount board so I can re frame it in the future... What's my best option.... Place between two acid free mount boards and tape ? Or put in a sleeve ?. But cover it with what??
Any advice would heloutranksoutranks

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by nah on Mar 12, 2013 20:40:55 GMT 1, Hi I've got a 1" deep piece on wood that I'd like to float in a frame (like below). Anyone know if it would be possible to do this without needing to fix it into place with screws? it's quite small and pretty lightweight, so maybe there are alternatives?
thanks!

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by natstan on Jun 23, 2013 9:15:49 GMT 1, I'm into some diy framing projects and have a couple of prints with deckle edge which I want to float mount within the frame. I have tested Lineco gummed hayaku hinging paper but found that it leaves a mark upon removal.
I chanced upon this Scotch restickable tabs for mounting posters on walls or horizontal surfaces, and they are described as 'photo safe' and can be removed and reused many times. Has any of you used this product? Are these good for float mounting a 16" x 20" print?

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by 11 on Jun 23, 2013 12:01:34 GMT 1, For a cheap poster maybe but I would not use them on anything unless you want to see oil / glue marks seeping through in 6-12 months
Plenty on here can hook you up with rice paper hinges etc. but NEVER....EVER.....use that kind of material

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by natstan on Jun 23, 2013 12:32:09 GMT 1, Thanks for replying, 11.
As this scotch thingy is pretty cheap (about $3.50), I bought a pack to 'investigate'. It seems to be made out of a silicon-like material. I do have my concerns about products like blu tack oozing oil and stuff, but this thing looks nothing like those products. I tested it on some surfaces and it works as it promised, leaving no marks upon removal. But of course, I won't know what will happen a few months down the road.
The reason why I'm considering alternatives like this is because I've found that the gummed hayaku I purchased off Amazon leaves a very obvious mark on the paper I tested on. This freaks me out as I'm hesitant to have that happen to my Faile Tonight We Launch print. And it doesn't help that the framer I frequents tell me they use double sided tape to float mount prints!
I'm not sure if I didn't buy the right hinging product or I didn't use the hayaku properly (see www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0007LS8BU/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr1_1?qid=1371987037&sr=8-1-fkmr1&pi=SL75). But removing the gummed hinging paper leaves a matt mark on whatever paper I tried (not to mention some test materials buckle a bit from the water I dabbed on the hayaku).

Float Mounting โข Deckled Edge, by natstan on Jun 23, 2013 12:36:49 GMT 1, I forgot to mention this stickable tab does not contain any glue, and your fingers don't feel 'gluey' at all after touching it. Don't ask me what it is, but it just becomes sticky again after you give it a soapy wash!

Trust nothing but rice paper and wheat starch
Mylar corners are fine to in addition to the above. In the States it's not unusual to have the mylar showing when floating.
