Whatson, by Poster Bob on Nov 2, 2014 13:53:31 GMT 1, Given the wording I have seen which is not explicit I assume that only *some* of the hand finished 50 prints will be available at the door. The rest will be sold by Gp online along with a standard edition but nothing I've seen has been completely clear. Maybe PM GP.

As you grow older you'll learn about critical thinking, and thoughtful discussions. In the meantime I'm sure the Dran prints your folks hung in your bedroom will keep you happy. yawn... cool story dude Nice comeback.

Slowest people in the world to respond to emails.
PDF will probably be ready as the doors open if you're lucky.

Whatson, by curiousgeorge on Nov 3, 2014 1:45:51 GMT 1, There are two things that bother me about this print: the left sleeve and the wall. The left sleeve is too bunched up where it touches the wall. You should in my mind, see his bare hand on the wall. Instead what you see is some type of stump covered in sweatshirt. Second, the wall is not properly defined and there is no sense of depth. It's hard to see that he's scaling it. It's got layers of tags, drips and bit of overspray. That's the trinity of street art/graff/urbane art right in front of you! Some people can't see the woods for the BS

Whatson, by kultur on Nov 3, 2014 19:24:02 GMT 1, I am so proud of Martin Whatson. I just saw the PDF and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW. Great job and congratulations on honing your artistic skills to the next level. I usually listen to and appreciate things you like, and I am seriously going to ask you this. Can you please tell me what really is WOW about this preview? Not trying to pick on you at all - and anyone can answer as the link has been put up below in a different post. I really want to know what people see in this work that they do not see in the people he blatantly gets "inspired by."
Anyone who has seen MW's work has seen more than half of these images before. Then there are a couple new pieces with tags, and then one piece with a Lego. Do you really think this is next level or is our sights set so low by art that using one new color of tagging is next level?
The only thing WOW WOW WOW about this to me is that the gallery is requesting first right of refusal on all works purchased as if they can hold back authenticating them - and there isnt enough MW on the second market as it is.
I guess with the formula of people with their backs to us and graffiti... we would all say WOW. Just like this work we have seen since 2006 or before. Yet we never hear much praise for Mr. Brainwash. Have people just come to their senses about his work?

Whatson, by Wearology on Nov 3, 2014 19:37:13 GMT 1, I would like to put my comments in further context as they seem to be a bit misinterpreted. Whatson has been getting crushed on here by many members for rehashing the same old stale images. I felt that the PDF I saw looked new & fresh and it seemed like his work has gone to the next level. The WOW WOW WOW might have been a bit over the top in full disclosure - but I do like it. As for MBW, I think I do not like his work for all the wrong or right reasons. The movie ETTGS just really got me to dislike the guy unfortunately.

I think many times because of all of the bashing, people start leaning the other way and go overboard with praise.
I have emailed with Martin years ago... never bought anything... but he was very nice. I just do not understand why his appeal is so strong for many people when to someone outside the "Scene" would probably see their work and might think they were the same artist ( I have actually tried this). Kudos to PR for both of them. Ride it all the way to the bank and I have no problem with their successes.
Funny thing is that Mr Brainwash and those that represent him do not seem to need to do damage control like many of MW's representation do - and that is crystal clear as financially motivated in my eyes. Nice guys and girls do shitty art all the time.

the best image is still chinooks because it is hand cut rather than vectored. went down hill when that was discovered.

if a business provides good customer service, then you are more likely to use them again ... simples ... not some claptrap end paragraph ...

As long as guarantee to get back original purchase price if bubble bursts ;-) Can't complain :-)

Whatson, by samfrost on Nov 3, 2014 22:33:07 GMT 1, Price points will likely limit the real number of flippers. Basically a hype-building move in my view. (I snickered when I saw the language...as if he is Richter or something...laughable).
Guessing that OG's are a lot tougher for the flippers than prints ...especially with a relatively new artist with no real auction records or secondary market OG activity. This will end well...not.
Outside of a few artists, the "street art" market is so derivative and formulaic these days. Emerging contemporary is more interesting, though there is PLENTY of trash and hype there as well.

Know what you're saying about the multi-levels of grey and that automated live trace. Do you actually know he uses this live trace tho? If it's common knowledge fair enough, but if you just think he uses it because of the style it's not a done deal. There are stencil artists that have a similar style but actually hand draw the layers, I was amazed when I saw photos of Indigo preparing stencils, all on acetate I think, and all the levels of grey hand drawn.
