Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by otomi on Nov 14, 2014 13:14:46 GMT 1, Sport: Lendl vs Chang, French Open 1989. Although never a fan of Lendl ( I was a big fan of McEnroe ) I suffered like hell with him. What a match. I still get goosebumps. My german fellows winning the world cup in '94 and 2014. And the European Championship in 1980 and 1996. :-) Hard to pick the gigs, a couple of memorable ones: Sisters of Mercy back in '88 or so Miles Davis playing at Hohentwiel Festival in 1989 Bowie, Pixies and Midnight Oil at Schuettorf open Air 1990 ( was lucky to get backstage tix and managed to 'meet' Bowie ) Keith Jarrett, Jack deJohnette and Gary Peacock at Paris Underworld at Roundhouse 2007 Depeche Mode at Royal Albert Hall Jeff Mills at Tresor Berlin and some very memorable events with Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Chris Liebing. I'd have liked to have seen the Sisters back in their hay day. Great band. Still listen to them now. Clips of gigs always look brill. So many great songs. Sisters use so much fog in there shows you can't see anything on stage - so just listen to them is almost as good gotta love them thou they are awesome

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by fattyramone on Nov 14, 2014 13:20:32 GMT 1, Not strictly a gig ticket , but this kind of fits in this thread as a nice bit of memorabilia. ...apologies if anyone thinks I've strayed a little too far off topic.....
This was find of the year about 15 years ago when I went up the local rubbish tip / recycling centre ....someone had thrown out their 1960's autograph book and the pickers had found it.
Anyway after a bit of haggling I ended up paying ยฃ200 for the complete book. Inside there was autographs from a lot of the minor 1960s UK stars of the day ..as well as some biggies like Pete Townsend , Telstars etc.
But the prize was the typed questionnaire inside signed by George Harrison as well as piece of his jacket (the lining) provided by his mother Louise .....she was wonderfully notorious for cutting up George's jackets and sending to fans who asked for a keepsake much to George's annoyance.
Also were 3 fully "signed" fan-club cards , one of which was sent and signed on the back by Louise Harrison....this one is definitely NOT signed in hand but printed or an auto pen example of their signatures , the other two I'm not 100% about being genuine either ....I think they are either signed by one or other of the Beatles for the others or Neal Aspinall / Mal Evans or secretarial signings.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by fattyramone on Nov 14, 2014 15:24:08 GMT 1, Yes , I watched Good old Freda (Kelly) on Netflicks (I think?) ....she was one of the secretaries right at the heart of the Beatles story , her and a lass called Bettina Rose were the secretaries I referred to earlier when I talked of secretarial autographs.
They signed 1000's of them in a fairly good imitation fashion , never realising of course that 50 years down the line what confusion they would still causing to many people who even to this day still believe they have "original" Beatles signatures.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by mutatis on Nov 15, 2014 17:37:42 GMT 1, I'd have liked to have seen the Sisters back in their hay day. Great band. Still listen to them now. Clips of gigs always look brill. So many great songs. Sisters use so much fog in there shows you can't see anything on stage - so just listen to them is almost as good gotta love them thou they are awesome otomi ha ha - I hear you. Where has all the dry ice and sense of darkness and menace gone these days? I got into the Sisters fairly early and saw them first time around the summer of 82. Loved the drum machine, dry ice, "silly" cover songs Jolene, Gimme Gimme Gimme A Man After Midnight and especially Emma. On stage Eldritch was a man of few words, but when he spoke he was usually sharp, cutting and very dry.
Best Sisters gigs for me where they headlined were Brixton June 83 support bands were Flesh For Lulu and The Smiths.
Also Electric Ballroom May 84 - which was the first tour Wayne Hussey was on and I remember much to my shame later on, being really impressed with him. I naively thought that then the Sisters were ready for more than indie chart success.
Revisited later on as I really liked Floodland and less so Vision Thing - their most popular period, but live it was never the same thing for me as it was between 82-84.

My favorite song might be Torch. I used to go to London (from Berlin) just to buy Sisters stuff (and the pubs). There was a store that had tons of promos, single and other "rare" stuff. Still have it all somewhere. I always collected something.
I started to listen to them in 86 in East Berlin. Wasn't easy to get their stuff.
I went to a Sisters concert not too long ago they still got it.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by Dungle on Nov 15, 2014 22:33:41 GMT 1, Loads of sporting events. Beating the filth 5-1 in the cup at WHL is up there, along with beating the Chavs in the final to lift a cup. Being in the San Siro for Bale's hat trick even though we lost was immense, as was the return leg at WHL when we won.
Also flying to NYC to watch Calzaghe beat Roy Jones junior was pretty special.
Gig wise it would be one of three. The Specials, Pink Floyd or Smashing Pumpkins.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by iamzero on Feb 22, 2015 11:13:02 GMT 1, Gotta love gig tickets. Only downside to guest list places is that you don't get a ticket stub so am unsure on exactly how many Weller/ OCS gigs I've actually done over the years. I figured a solution to this problem by gathering set lists though... More 'stuff' in a drawer.
On a curious note FR I do know a woman from these parts that is hailed as Right Said Fred's biggest fan.

Not strictly a gig but Danny Tenaglia at Homelands would be a close second.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by Ottomatik on Sept 13, 2015 23:42:09 GMT 1, I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I was lucky enough to live in Manchester as a student from 86 to 89. Coincided with the Madchester scene, which was great fun. Saw all the usual suspects, Mondays, Roses, Inspirals, etc loads, and had a blast. Prob saw the Wedding Present the most though. Othe good concerts were madonna (yes really!) and Kate bush. Both were like going to a west end theatre production. Wu tang clan in the early days were pretty mental too.ย Foo figters, Paul Simon / sting and David gray lined up already for 2015.ย
Went to see Madonna on her first U.S. Rebel Heart show in DC last night. 3rd show of the tour. (2 nights in Montreal were the first) I have to say, it was one of the best! She seemed to be enjoying the show! Great crowd! Great energy!
As always, she ended the show with Holiday!
If you're a fan, you should see this show when it hits Europe!

Saw all the usual suspects, Mondays, Roses, Inspirals, etc loads, and had a blast. Prob saw the Wedding Present the most though. Othe good concerts were madonna (yes really!) and Kate bush. Both were like going to a west end theatre production. Wu tang clan in the early days were pretty mental too.ย Foo figters, Paul Simon / sting and David gray lined up already for 2015.ย Went to see Madonna on her first U.S.
