Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by Neate Michael on Jan 7, 2017 12:07:02 GMT 1, As for sporting events, going to the athletics at the Olympics was hard to beat, it wasn't the big night for the Brits but it was still fab, being a Liverpool fan the 2003 final when Owen scored twice to rob Arsenal was amazing to be at, loads of great days out at Twickenham especially during the Sir Clive era, the beach volleyball at London Olympics was fun too!!

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by Prescription Art on Jan 7, 2017 16:29:42 GMT 1, I've been lucky enough to have seen almost every band i could want to see in my lifetime... however pretty sure the best gig i ever went to was Daft Punk in Hyde Park. It was actually i think the 4th time I saw them, but the others were all totally forgettable compared to this:
Best sporting moment of my life was seeing Wycombe beat Leicester to get to the FA Cup semi-final!
Slightly less parochially, I was very fortunate to see possibly the greatest Athletics performance of all time. Just look at him go down the back straight!

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by Everyone Owes on Jan 9, 2017 13:41:09 GMT 1, Grimes was off the scale - the sub-bass seriously impressed my 10 yr old son! That and Soulwax playing Nite Versions. Did you catch them? Oh yes! They were blimmin' amazing. Soooo good! Forgot to mention Max Cooper playing Emergence at Islington Assembly Hall just before Christmas - intense audio visual performance and great support tech DJ set from Vessels:
"EMERGENCE is an epic, operatic, ambitious amalgamation between audio-visual show, scientific research project, art installation and IDM record. Itโs the debut release on Max Cooperโs Mesh label and his second full-length release.
Experience EMERGENCE live in the capital this December, at the dramatic grade II listed Islington Assembly Hall. Built in 1929 the venue is enshrined in history and the buildingโs stunning backdrop of art deco features will add to the ambience. Expect an audio visual journey where all your senses will get the chance to experience the album in an interactive form.
EMERGENCE is the story of the development of the universe, the way in which, very complex things like human beings were created from the immaterial by the action of simple laws.
The record was conceived as a soundtrack to a new series of 11 pieces of video art, each exploring a different facet of the concept of โemergenceโ. The full A/V live show will premiere at Mutek, Japan on November 2nd 2016. Together the work is a marriage between the cosmic awe of a Carl Sagan film and the musical wonderment of Sigur Ros, made for meditating on the mystery of our emotional connection to fundamental natural form.
Max has synthesised his skill as a producer and his deep interests in science to create a Hadron Collider-grade ambient techno world, in the lineage of The Future Sounds of Londonโs โLifeformsโ for 2016. Itโs also one of the most beautiful records youโll hear all year."

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by t3c on Jan 9, 2017 15:19:02 GMT 1, Kraftwerk @ Tribal Gathering 1997 - the Detroit tent shut for 2hrs as nobody wanted to play when they were on, says it all really..can't way to see them at the Royal Albert Hall
Orbital @ Glastonbury 95 - They played the year before but this was for me on a completely different level. They absolutely blew away the 100,000 watching it and John Major had resigned so they added that into the visuals.
Nirvana @ Reading 93. It was bananas.
Plastikman @ Glastonbury 95 - My love affair of techno music is cemented and still very much ongoing 21 years later
Autechre @ Hearn Street Car Park - They played for me arguably the best 20 minutes of live music i had ever heard played out irrespective of genre. The whole 1hr set was incredible but a particular 20 minute section was just jaw droppingly intense. They were also very good at RFH the other month playing it complete darkness.
Aphex Twin @ Big Love 97 - So this was technically a live set (all off of DATS i believe) but the dancing Teddy Bears and cigar moments made it a different thing to a normal AFX Dj set. I don't believe he has played live again since that period of time either..

Will second all of those, and the continuing love affair of techno - wasn't around for Nirvana Reading '93 but was there in '90 for Pixies and Cramps. Had seen Pixies at Kilburn National the year before - July 5th 1989 - and remember there being some issue with the tube which meant about half the audience didn't make it. One of the best gigs ever.

Gonna throw a few more out there
Jeff Mills @ Lost w/ Autechre & Fumiya Tanaka 1997 - crazy warehouse in Victoria & Albert Docks. Mills absolutely destroyed the crowd that night. Easily my favourite techno DJ back then and even now
Rolling Stones @ Twickenham (2005?) - Everybody should see these guys play live at least once in their lifetime. Pure entertainers. Went with my old man, it was brilliant.
Warp 10th anniversary @ Z rooms [now vibe bar on Brick lane] - 3 nights on the trot but Friday the final installment was the one to get a ticket for and there were about 100-150 outside the venue literally begging for tickets to get in. Line-up went like this. Autechre - live, Squarepusher - live, Boards of Canada - live, Mira Calix - live and of course a closing DJ set from Mr Aphex Twin. That was my 21st birthday too and things got really messy. IDM gigs/raves do not come better than this imo. Orbital even turned up as punters lol as did many other music pro's who were clearly fans of this kind of music. very special evening/morning.
