Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Dec 29, 2015 20:26:21 GMT 1, I get the simplicity aspect, as well as his significance in the scene... but if you break it all down...he's really just making things anyone could do at age 5.For me to appreciate art, not only does it need to have underlying meaning...but I need to feel as if the artist put some time and effort into it... I often think people like __ artist because everyone else likes __ artist. ย (insert: Banksy, Stik, Warhol, etc.) David, I have heard that about various Artists works for as long as I can remember, in the end it just comes down to whether it floats your boat or not. As a wise old sage posted on here the other day ' Trash or Treasure'. If only there was a piece of art illustrating the text in red

Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Dec 29, 2015 20:29:56 GMT 1, The person who started this conversation in this room was asking for opinions and different perspectives. You came into this room and tells him why is it worth the time to even ask such a question and that those friends who offered differing opinions and alternatives are dictators. So to quote you, why is it even worthwhile for you to even join in the conversation? Friends of his?.

The op asked a pointless question that comes up a lot and has a very very simple answer. I gave it.
I quoted someone saying it's better to tell your mates what to like and called that dictatorial not friendly.

Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Dec 29, 2015 20:48:01 GMT 1, How much Stik is selling for makes no difference but sincerely I do hope that Stik gets the money and profit and not some pump and dump art dealer wide boys.
Stik needs to be less of a nice guy when dealing with wideboys and control his output (prints) and where they are sold.
I hope he gets a nice pad in London too.

Why do people like Stik?, by Deleted on Dec 29, 2015 21:29:54 GMT 1, One could ask why people like Gucci, or YSL, KimKardasian etc etc.
People are not forced to buy Stik, it's their choice and in my view he is way above Rothko and Twombly.

Why do people like Stik?, by Missy Parrot on Dec 29, 2015 22:28:55 GMT 1, I have quite a lot of art on my walls , whenever anyone comes to my home the only art they talk about is the Stik stuff . I have a few Banksy prints and a Haring , yet still the only ones people are drawn to is the cute Stik men !
I cant work that out , but most say they have a lot of feeling in there faces and bodies .
I love his work and the colours brighten up my home .

You are the one making no point again and again, saying this question isn't worthwhile to ask right from the start, and when people start giving differing opinions than yours alone, you think it's more like a pointless attack (by david). And then assuming others to be dictating what one should like when the poster (me) wasn't having that intention. If you cannot give an analytical answer as to why people like or don't like stik (which is the core essence of this thread) other than your 'simple' non-answer of personal taste (which is the most used reply in any situation), then perhaps you should not even participate in this discussion at all. That's all I've been saying.

Why do people like Stik?, by docean on Dec 30, 2015 2:03:40 GMT 1, ^ agreed.
Obviously everything is personal taste, that goes without saying. That's akin to saying "why do people like it? because they like it." which is a waste of a comment.
But what drives that personal taste? one person's personal taste does not dictate high secondary market prices...clearly there are a large number of people demanding the art so I was just trying to dig a little deeper into the underlying reasons that stick figures speak to you.
I respect anyone who makes art, so I wasn't trying to bash him or anyone who enjoys his work.

And you are not wrong either - it's true anybody including a 5 year old can doodle those figures in the shortest time possible and charge you nothing to draw them. But it's their money so anyone can choose to spend them according to their personal taste

Why do people like Stik?, by cmodart on Dec 30, 2015 4:13:05 GMT 1, I value the art because of how it makes me feel to see it on the wall. The various compositions are compelling in part because of their simplicity. It's hard to convey much with only a stik figure. My family enjoys the art on different levels, which is great.
Reminds me of Pascal - "I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time."
I get the question, but why are people so spiteful in their critique of such a beautiful artist? Seems like a sweet guy that genuinely desires to help people and bring awareness to issues. If you don't dig it, don't dig it.

Where did I say Stik is a bad man?
Surely if people want to film themselves interacting with some figures painted on a public wall whether it's to make an advert or not is not in breach of copyright.
People can interact with public staues etc etc and film themselves.
Movies are often made which show graffiti street art in the background too.
I doubt that Stik was the first to paint or draw stick figures anyway.

He signed the posters during his book signing so sounds like someone dropped it at the tent for the benefit of the protestor group - and your good fortune
At the end of his book signing stik then went on to sign a load more books (not the posters) which is why there are two blocks of signed books / unsigned poster and then signed book and signed poster

People can interact with public staues etc etc and film themselves. Movies are often made which show graffiti street art in the background too. I doubt that Stik was the first to paint or draw stick figures anyway. FINALLY! The "doubt" that any person with common sense should have. Lately there has been more of it, which I hope people are wising up. Stik and his stick figures that have been done time and time again since the beginning of drawing. This has been done more times then the girl who holds the world record for the most sexual partners in a gang bang porn and then multiply that by a couple trillion over the course of human beings learning how to draw. A stick figure was the first thing I ever learned to draw as a child. Think about the countless others who did the same.
But everyones appeal is that it "makes them happy" or is very friendly. I understand that BUT how can you argue that the price of what you are paying for is not borderline insane? If you own Stiks work, then you are riding an investment train. The prices people pay for his work is way to "risky" in every sense of the word in terms of long term investment and the AMOUNT sums up that people are buying his work for investment purposes. Who would spend thousands of dollars on a stik figure if his work was only holding value?
But to each there own. People will like what they like at the end of the day, I am more worried about the amount money people pay for his work over the long run. Its just hard to wrap my brain around the fact that people just "love" his work and spend thousands on it JUST because you like stick figures.
Making money suing a big company with their army of lawyers.. You re right!!! Stik is a bad bad man!!!!
