Why do people like Stik?, by tartarus on Dec 31, 2015 19:38:42 GMT 1, Where did I say Stik is a bad man? ย Surely if people want to film themselves interacting with some figures painted on a public wall whether it's to make an advert or not is not in breach of copyright. ย ย People can interact with public staues etc etc and film themselves. ย Movies are often made which show graffiti street art in the background too. ย ย ย I doubt that Stik was the first to paint or draw stick figures anyway. FINALLY! The "doubt" that any person with common sense should have. Lately there has been more of it, which I hope people are wising up. Stik and his stick figures that have been done time and time again since the beginning of drawing. This has been done more times then the girl who holds the world record for the most sexual partners in a gang bang porn and then multiply that by a couple trillion over the course of human beings learning how to draw. A stick figure was the first thing I ever learned to draw as a child. Think about the countless others who did the same.
Trolls have been around a while too. But they got boring and passรฉ years ago.

Why do people like Stik?, by tartarus on Dec 31, 2015 19:44:17 GMT 1, Making money suing a big company with their army of lawyers.. You re right!!! Stik is a bad bad man!!!! Maybe intellectual property rights? I remember that they not only paid up but they were also made to stop the advert going out. So they obviously crossed some legal line using it.
Pretty sure he used the money to fund the big issue project or something similar.

Why do people like Stik?, by saucyjack on Jan 1, 2016 21:30:42 GMT 1, I suspect it is the same reason why a multitude of (past and present) artists on this board are hyped. Many of our members are early purchasers of any particular artists' work and want to benefit financially from it. If you look at the litany of "for sale," "price check," and other threads devoted to creating a secondary market valuation, it's fairly obvious. This board is a marketplace now and has been for quite some time.
People hype Stik because they want to make money from his works. They'll tell you it is the style, or deeper meaning, or the artist's bio, but in reality all art (including Stik) is a luxury item and it's all about money.
Not hating the player. Not hating the game. Just stating facts.
Happy New Year art enthusiasts. May 2016 be you most profitable yet.

Why do people like Stik?, by saucyjack on Jan 1, 2016 21:57:42 GMT 1, Not true, talking about an good artist is giving recognition, hype is something related to s**t. You seem smarter than that. Many, many excellent artists have been hyped here and elsewhere.
It isn't a dirty word. It just is what it is:
"A clever marketing strategy which a product is advertised as the thing everyone must have, to the point where people begin to feel they need to consume it."

I was mainly referencing the hype by Lamberty and similar. People who feel they have to prmote Stik as the next Banksy.
Stik is Stik not Banksy.
I do understand thatdealers and galelries have to market the artists but these days legendary and genuis and groundbreaking etc etc etc are commonly overrused words.

Why do people like Stik?, by saucyjack on Jan 1, 2016 22:43:15 GMT 1, In today's commoditized Street Art world, there must always be a next Banksy. That doesn't mean Banksy as in the "artist," but more Banksy as in the "opportunity." The opportunity to make money, to profit, to get in the ground floor, so to speak.

Why do people like Stik?, by saucyjack on Jan 1, 2016 23:13:19 GMT 1, I don't know why you've decided to add your off-topic banter to this thread. But please take it to PM if you have a problem with either me or Ploppi.
Keep the board clutter-free, for the good of all members who don't want to read this kind of nonsense.

How funny. Or is it just people that failed in art that get so upset.

Why do people like Stik?, by Lroy on Jan 2, 2016 12:25:47 GMT 1, Stik make most of all paints in walls, and big ones, with great location, on the good support etc.. That is the first rule ( if we can say that ) in Street-art and maybe in Graffiti ( more anarchic ) . The spot is the lesson number one, the paint in the two. He likes the paint, the matter, his sickness and colours. Stik gives streets a chance and is making people happy : what to asking more ?! He is an artist, but, as for Banksy and many others , you speak about Stik as a maker of print and a value. He is not. Otherwise he won't sign and gives doodles to every people asking.

Does everything have to offend someone? Is having broad appeal somehow a negative? Personally, no.

Gilbert & George are annoying, but in creating some disruption perhaps opened doors for more talented artists.
Stik? It's all about the nuance.

I said " If we can say that " Rules ? Do you prefer " code " , " notice " Anyway there is rules or codes between suttee-artists and taggers : look Nanksy and Robbo, never paint over my first tag. And Cost who made a scandal because somebody put a tag on one of his pasted poster , lol ! Paint on rages of a a hard and rude graffiti hip-hop crew , and you will Know how to run ...
Well, Stik did not paint always " legal " walls, and , by the way, apart the untouchable Banksy who could paint and tags all the loo or fridges in the Lord rooms or in Westminter without any problems, at the contrary, tell me now , which street-artist is still a " vandal " ?! Apart " little " street-artists drawing dicks instead of a nose on a wall, graffiti writers or taggers, none are prosecuted ! Anyway street-art is a non-sense now in the way of the streets.. Most " street-arts " are now making prints and that's all ! Why do you think about Upfest Bristol, Nuart festival, etc etc ...
