Banksy at Bridge Farm Primary School, by Deleted on Jun 7, 2016 7:32:59 GMT 1, For goodness sake, give it a rest. You have made it very clear you don't like Banksy. But it's like a stuck record now. I'm talking about the art on the school not Banksy. Regardless of if it was done by banksy or Joe Bloggs or anyone else. So one has to love everything an artist does, other wise they hate them. So do you like Banksy then? He has a PR team don't you know! Have you mentioned that?

I think the mural is great.
My view is it's not appropriate for a primary school wall. I'm not the only one on this forum who has that view.
I'm also a fan of free speech. Pity some on this forum come across as hypocrits and attack free speech.

I don't think people attack free speech, I think irritating posts like 'it would have been better of it were and elephant with flowers'
Well it isn't !
also over time i guess regular posters get a kind of profile for regular users of this forum, i.e if ever banksy releases something, certain people regardless of what the art is, will slag it off.
I may have been here too long :-)
If I had to use my ineffective brain I would imagine that the majority of people here migrated here due to Banksy, this in turn has opened their eyes to a lot of other artists that are now on a lot of peoples walls, portfolios etc.
See, I really dislike self service tills and all the bad that they bring but i wouldn't join a self service till forum to moan about them, and the people that use them. (though thinking about it, maybe i would, off to google)

My advice for any members is that if you have a particular dislike for an artist or association (eg Banksy & the BBC) to reference your dislike occasionally is what freedom of speech on this forum is about. But to continual bleat on about it is probably against the spirit of that statement and should be avoided.

If you are referring to my post Ploppi, that's rediculous. My post was not intending to and cannot curtail your free speech. You are free to reply however you like, just as I'm free to say you sound like a broken record. Your contstant pops at Banksy are irritating. You are perfectly free to keep making them though. If your suggestion that people have investments to protect was aimed at me, that's equally rediculous. I have never posted with any such motive.

Banksy at Bridge Farm Primary School, by Forbidden Love on Jun 7, 2016 10:27:40 GMT 1, its a great piece!
kids will not start a fire from looking at a picture of fire on there playground, just like they wont stab someone after playing GTA. think its silly to some who think its inappropriate.
It will be good way to get the kids thinking about art and how to try to understand messages behind a picture. It will be great to hear what they think it means.
lucky kids!

And can use banksy as an excuse. Nonetheless a great gesture Mr B though like some have said perhaps a little inappropriate.

Banksy at Bridge Farm Primary School, by mojo on Jun 7, 2016 13:04:36 GMT 1, We all know Banksy likes to play tricks and pose questions through his art perhaps with this one the aim was to gauge peoples reactions to a very controversial image being placed within a school. It appears lots of people are of the view that it doesn't really matter what 5 year old children see during their childhood cause it's part of life so they should just get on with it. I'm a bit sad about that and I think perhaps Banksy would be too? I don't mollycoddle or wrap anybody in cotton wool and if I come across as uptight then so be it. I just feel 5 year old children deserve better from a society that has become so hardened to their surroundings they have completely forgotten how fragile a developing 5 year old brain makes sense of the world around them. *I'm not just referring to the burning tyre in this context, more generally.
You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one .......

Banksy at Bridge Farm Primary School, by Deleted on Jun 7, 2016 13:13:39 GMT 1, Not read the five previous pages so don't know the mood of the forum. For me anyway, it's a pretty poor image but I've never been a fan of Banksy's cartoon images. It's not a great composition either and I'm sure a burning tyre is just what teachers want their pupils looking at all day. So a miss rather than a hit from me.

" It appears lots of people are of the view that it doesn't really matter what 5 year old children see during their childhood cause it's part of life so they should just get on with it."
I don't think that that statement is a fair representation of what people are saying. Of course I care what images 5 year olds see. It's all a question of degree. You feel, I think, that this is an inappropriate image for children of that age to see. That's fair enough. I don't agree. But that doesn't mean that I don't care what images children see.

Banksy at Bridge Farm Primary School, by 11 on Jun 7, 2016 13:54:08 GMT 1, Maybe he has simply come to the conclusion that while the leaders of countries, commerce and media (grown adults) are driven by capitalist desire no one really cares that innocent people, including children, suffer an intolerable life.
This piece at its very worst will prompt children to ask Why? and to compare against their own lives, is that really so wrong?
Children of this age are our next generation and if, as they grow they learn to consider all life is more important than capitalist gain and therefore challenge the imbalance of so many elements in this world then maybe they won't be driven by the same motives and may strive to break the vicious circle of capitalism at its worst.
Personally, I love this piece and love B's ability to deliver a thought provoking and confrontational piece so simply with excellent execution, a combination of hand painted elements with his signature stencil style and, unusually, he even signed it.
If you have a small child what do you think they see when the horrors of the world are presented on our screens or in the newspapers, hundreds of refugees toppling into the sea to their inevitable death, tiny children washing up on the shores of Europe, they see all of this and more! Pretending it doesn't happen, THAT is fucked up! Isn't Banksy's image a little less brutal yet still giving them an opportunity to ask the questions and start to understand what is so wrong with the world? You need to understand what is broken and why before you can really start to fix it. Our generation have been conditioned for far too long to believe all there is in life is our own happiness and personal gain, maybe this is a small attempt to get the future generations to challenge whether that is fair.
Sadly, I don't think any child is protected from the images of the brutal world we live in anymore, but worse than that, millions of young children live the horror of those images everyday - who is protecting them when their parents are as helpless as they are.
Maybe it is all just a publicity stunt, who cares about anyone else's life anyway. I'd like to get my iPhone gold-plated and diamond encrusted, its an absolute emergency and more important than life itself - can someone PM me if you can help!?
Stik, if you're reading, don't try and make a difference with your art, just produce more stuff so the vultures can line their pockets...hype hype hype !! Isn't it about time Banksy released another £450 print for us all as well......FFS

Banksy at Bridge Farm Primary School, by Lroy on Jun 7, 2016 13:59:53 GMT 1, " It will be good way to get the kids thinking about art and how to try to understand messages behind a picture " [/quote]
I Won't say, as Dappy said - with good reasons - , that the image is poor... But calling this drawing/painting, art is a bit exaggerating . A lovely piece of streetart or schoolart, ok, because of the well detailed burning wheel, a funny one, ok but is this piece asking kids to philosophy about ? I'm not sure. Anyway , only the teacher and Banksy know. Our world is burning and go quickly of course , but I don't see any Brexit here ! Ahah( I'm joking of course ) Maybe it's just about kids: enjoy your life and childhood , easy and in time, but don't jump the gun, one step at times.

Banksy at Bridge Farm Primary School, by mojo on Jun 7, 2016 14:01:42 GMT 1, We all know Banksy likes to play tricks and pose questions through his art perhaps with this one the aim was to gauge peoples reactions to a very controversial image being placed within a school. " It appears lots of people are of the view that it doesn't really matter what 5 year old children see during their childhood cause it's part of life so they should just get on with it." I don't think that that statement is a fair representation of what people are saying. Of course I care what images 5 year olds see. It's all a question of degree. You feel, I think, that this is an inappropriate image for children of that age to see. That's fair enough. I don't agree. But that doesn't mean that I don't care what images children see. What part of a kid playing with a furiously burning tyre in their school playground is appropriate? Yes @coach it doesn't happen often however on this one we are going to have to agree to differ. I'm sure you are a very discerning person and I have no doubt you care greatly about what images children of that age see. I think it opens up an interesting discussion on what the average 5 year old does see & hear during their average day. Also if it wasn't painted by Banksy I think that particular image would be very alarming to find drawn on a primary school wall and in other circumstances would surely be removed pronto. Please believe me, I'm not anti Banksy or you Coach in any way
