Show us your HIFI System, by jipsy on Oct 9, 2007 8:28:13 GMT 1, I just got my "stereo" out of storage yesterday. It's been there for over 10 years. I've got an Audiolab 8000A amp, a Micromega Stage 2 CD player and a set of Mission 751 (i think) speakers. Anyway I got it all plugged in last night and it still sounded fuckin great. Here's my question: Has stereo apliances stayed still compared to televisions or is my stuff really out of date? What's the new technology regarding cd players or amps?

Show us your HIFI System, by GD303uk on Oct 9, 2007 11:25:46 GMT 1, i still use my Aodiolab amp , i love the sound and the look of it, if i could afford Linn or quad i would splash out, the micro mega cd is a great piece of kit , i always whanted one. i bet it sounds great.
i did borrow a friend set of sl1210 s and found the amp was good but my modern speakers didnt hold up when playing vinyl, i found an old pair of wharfdale E70 98db monsters and with my little amp i could crank up the music so loud my eyes wobled in my head, Alesis, Genelec & bose do a nice speaker the higher the DB the louder they will be even on a 30w amp, studios like using the yamaha ns10 but i find them to bright and sharp almost souless, i love the old audio stuff and in time would buy an old vlave amp, to go with the E70's i stull used an old technics amp SUV8, up until a few years ago, i gave it to a young dj he swears buy it and claims when he does private parties it still outplays modern amps. there is a little switch on it that lowers the frequency so much it moves you to the toilet. i think that the old stuff is still good, get a new( or old ) set of speakers that can handle bass and remain tight and you will not regret keeping you system.
saying all this if i wasnt spending money on my house and art i would dive into hifi again and obsess over which would be the best system to get.
only my opinion i am sure the are Audiophiles here who can advise better than i have.
just found some pics, check out the 1970s style, born for Disco

I have an old Denon PMA-720 Amp that I paid about ยฃ80 for at a CashConverters ;D I would always stick with Denon for Amps ;D Most of the old names now just buy in crap from China and put their name on it so take care when your buying new but Denon and Pioneer and still pretty good ;D
Worth keeping any eye out on ebay for old speakers! most are too heavy to post so they are pickup only meaning they will only get local bids, so you can get a bargain ;D

All dinosaurs now. But still sounds crisp and punchy.
My upgrade hopefully next 6months to a Naim-Audio set up...If I can twist my mates arm hard enough.

Sounds daft I know...but the first time I heard my mates set up...it made me feel kinda dizzy/weird the sound quality is amazing. Not only the sound but in-between the notes of music the silence is equally amazing...no hiss no distortion, even at loud levels. I now know where the saying the silence is defening comes from! Naim-Audio / Bowers & Wilkins

Show us your HIFI System, by Warm Gun on Jan 1, 2014 14:53:52 GMT 1, I bought a Sonos play 5 a few days ago. Stunning sound, can't pick a fault with it. I done a lot of research on wifi speakers and I only ever read positive reviews on these. They are regarded as the best on the market in their price range and out perform competition from Bose and B&W. They are a bit pricey at ยฃ350 but the punch they have is fantastic. There is cheaper three speaker version (play 3) for ยฃ250 or a one speaker version (play 1) for ยฃ170. To work them you plug the wifi bridge (currently free with every purchase) into your hub or whatever you have, turn it on and tadar, you can stream your iTunes, spotify, napster and any music you have on your pc via a dedicated network, so unlike a lot of other wifi speakers you won't get any drop in performance. You can add a sonos to every room if you wanted to and control what you play from the free app that works on your phone or tablet or pc etc. You could even stream different songs into different rooms at the same time whilst controlling the volume, bass, middle etc. Lovely bit of kit.
I sound like a salesman here but I really am impressed with the sound, adaptability and ease of set up.

Show us your HIFI System, by Harveyn on Jan 1, 2014 15:21:35 GMT 1, I was just about to start I hifi thread. I have decided to dig out my vinyls and took the plunge buying a Roksan Radius 5.2 Turntable over Christmas. I am looking to add a intergrated amplifier with phono stage and a simple set of speakers. To be honest I am happy to sacrifice sound to a certain extent to get the asthetics I am after. Also space is an issue for speakers. Anybody out there able to help. My first thoughts are an Arcam FMJ A19 integrated amplifier and a pair of Elipson Planet M speakers with stands. Max music power on the speakers is 60 watts (recommended 30w- 80w amplifier) and the Arcam delivers 2 x 50 watts.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Some with the sonos speakers, some connected to a very expensive hi if system and miles of speaker cable length and one with the sonos amp. Absolutely no delay between rooms when playing same music throughout the house. Also have it in the garden in summer.
