Brexit, by Deleted on Mar 27, 2019 12:22:20 GMT 1, I don't think i'm missing the point, I've addressed your points and made another apposing point. Every party has had as senior politicians who has not been able to answer questions it was their job to answer. Dianne Abbot springs to mind instantly. Politicians deceiving the public........................................... we both know that is like death and taxes. Asking another question is not answering the question. We can easily find out what rules the EU have enforced on us. But no politician can ever name any they’d change. So what are we “taking back control” of exactly? I'm not sure about this but hasn't there been court cases where the UK government has wanted to deny Islamic hate preachers a residency in the UK and then the case has gone to the ECJ and they have overruled the UK government and said the individual must be allowed to stay in the UK if he wants to. Perhaps it is right-wing propaganda and not true. I don't know.

Brexit, by Deleted on Mar 27, 2019 12:24:00 GMT 1, I don't think it is quite fair to say they are "deceiving the public". Leaving the EU means we are no longer subject to EU rules and regulations. That sounds like taking back control to me...except we are still subject to WTO rules. But even if we decide to keep the same rules as the EU that is still us taking back control. It is us controlling the rules. Rules that we’ve hardly ever had any issue with... worth the turmoil? No, it's not worth the turmoil, I agree. But this has always been about ideology rather than practicalities.

Brexit, by vei on Mar 27, 2019 13:31:22 GMT 1, I think this is getting confused now, the only question I asked was what article did you ‘just’ read, not asked to answer a question. This one... not that it matters to the point in any way! fullfact.org/europe/eu-facts-behind-claims-uk-influence/?utm_source=content_page&utm_medium=related_contentAnd you're replying to a question I posed to someone else actually, who said Leave voters mostly voted to take back control of EU rules... so not surprised you don't have the answer... especially as my point is that there isn't an answer. "Taking back control of our laws" is an exciting sounding headline, but a lie.
I didn’t reply to you question I commented on your post pointing out that what you had posted was not true.
You responded to my post asking me qualify ‘taking back control’. I did not answer you because Im not going to defend a statement I did not make.

What rule or rules dont we like?
What does that mean....ideology? Is it the same thing as the saying.....to cut your nose to spite your face?

What does that mean....ideology? Is it the same thing as the saying.....to cut your nose to spite your face? I've already given one example of the rules we don't like, i.e. the ECJ over-ruling the UK courts.
When I said 'ideology' I meant the principle of wanting to not take orders from other countries. You could call that 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' - but some Brexiters don't mind walking around without a nose. They think it's worth it for greater autonomy.

But why do we want it? And who says we will get greater autonomy, and on that who sets the automony? Just thinking on that...its pretty scary if we did don't you think? Imagine Mogg, Gove or Johnson making up the rules.
What was wrong with it the way it was?
didn't we like EU funding? Being part of a big club, travelling over to europe on weekend hols?
I still don't get the law thing, I just don't
Hows the NHS coping with all the Europeans fucking off because we don't want them here?

Brexit, by Deleted on Mar 27, 2019 17:37:23 GMT 1, "But why do we want it?" I think everybody likes the idea of autonomy, don't they? But I agree that I wouldn't want Rees-Mogg and Boris making our rules. But likewise I can understand people not liking other European countries making our rules either.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the law thing".
As far as the NHS is concerned, I worked for the NHS for about 15 years. When I worked in various hospitals, most non-UK workers actually come from Africa, India and China rather than the EU. At least professionals did. You may be right about unskilled jobs though. I have to admit, I think it's rather sad that menial jobs like hospital cleaners have to be taken up by European itinerant workers because British people don't seem to be interested.

Hmm, I thought it was higher, I stand corrected (poor attempt at sarcasm)
researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7783#fullreport
10% of doctors and 7% of nurses are EU nationals
Nationals of other EU countries make up 9.7% of doctors in England's hospital and community health services. They also make up 6.8% of all nurses and 5.6% of scientific, therapeutic and technical staff. The percentage of doctors and nurses with EU nationality grew between 2009 and 2016. Since 2016, the percentage of EU nurses has fallen.
edited to add, as this bee in my bonnet just will not stop buzzing
Do you think this will improve or get worse? will it affect us?
I cant see many recruitment drives to train the 10% of doctors and Nurses that are not welcome anymore
www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resource/the-nhs-workforce-in-numbers#2-what-is-the-overall-shortfall-in-staff-in-the-nhs
The number of vacancy adverts on the main recruitment website for the NHS suggested 94,000 full-time equivalent advertised vacancies in hospital and community services alone between July and September 2018.[4] This equates to an estimated shortfall of 8 per cent (around 1 in 12 posts).
The highest numbers of advertised vacancies (in absolute terms) are in ‘nursing and midwifery’ – at nearly 40,000 – and ‘administrative and clerical’, which has over 20,000.
In primary care, and against an ambition set in 2016 to increase GP numbers by 5,000 by 2020[5], numbers have fallen by 290 (full-time equivalent) – a decline of 1 per cent.

Im sure there are other reasons, but that the most obvious challenge.

Brexit, by Daylight Robber on Mar 27, 2019 20:05:25 GMT 1, Lol could that be because all our old people go there to freeload on their sunshine, and yet healthy young people come here, to work, as basically old people from most other countries dont fancy freezing their old age away around the UK. Im sure there are other reasons, but that the most obvious challenge. Brexiteer nonsense spouted as fact as per. Freeload on their sunshine... their sunshine!! Ffs I’ve heard it all now 😂

Brexit, by rebate on Mar 27, 2019 20:21:47 GMT 1, For me the argument is no longer about the reasons for Brexit. That has been settled by the vote. It is the reversal from the vote that is worrying. Undemocratic, while some remainers now relish this, I hope they look into the far term, politicians may go against them too in the future on a different vote. A very bad precedent this is setting. IT IS NOT UNDEMOCRATIC TO HAVE A SECOND VOTE.
Stop trying to subvert the meanings of words!! Its fucking annoying.

Brexit, by Chris JL on Mar 27, 2019 20:35:01 GMT 1, Now BoJo is ready to support May’s deal in exchange of her resigning and giving him a shot at the premiership. Everything can be done for pure self interest apparently... I thought he had already reached the bottom, but I definitively “misunderestimated” him and his ilk.
