Brexit, by Daylight Robber on Feb 1, 2020 21:53:51 GMT 1, We're also talking about the rights of British citizens to live, work, & love across the Union. The right to be able to bring family members to live with you in old age. The ability to come and go as you please across the EU without risking your rights to live in a country. The possibility to study in any country within the union without having to jump through hoops. It's not just about who comes here FFS. AWWW You are such a drama queenย ย
And you're a patronising ignoramus.

Brexit, by Masong on Feb 1, 2020 21:54:39 GMT 1, People that have a skill that is beneficial to this country will not be stopped from working and living here. This hasnโt all been about freedom of movement. Maybe for a small minority yes but unfortunately you will get racist prรฎcks in this country the same as you would in any other. Well hopefully other countries in the union will be as respectful to our citizens as Iโm sure we will be with theirs. We shall see

Brexit, by Guy Denning on Feb 1, 2020 22:08:39 GMT 1, Well hopefully other countries in the union will be as respectful to our citizens as Iโm sure we will be with theirs. We shall see Exactly what will happen Citizen groups have been campaigning for this across Europe... for years. We seem to have the support of European governments but the UK government refuses to agree to act reciprocally. And the current Home Secretary is going for the right wing support... So no - it's exactly what's not happening. Despite claims to the contrary on the .gov site regarding citizen's rights (unless it's changed since last night).

There seems to be a significant number of Brexiters who think they know what will happen and who seemingly don't understand that citizens rights are all tied in with trade. They think we're going to retain all the 'good bits' whilst not having to live by any rules. They tend to be people who aren't directly affected, have done zero research and who'll never understand what it's like to live with the uncertainty others are having to face.

There are a hell of lot of people with bigger problems and worries than yours in this world believe me I'll pass that nugget of wisdom on to the Welsh pensioner in my village who sold up everything to come here decades ago to work (carpenter) and is now reliant on the French/UK systems combined for his pension and the French health services for his cancer treatments. I'm sure he be relieved to know he's worrying unnecessarily and beyond what is appropriate.

Brexit, by Guy Denning on Feb 1, 2020 23:06:04 GMT 1, If you foolish folk had respected the democratic vote 3 years ago you could have saved the country and yourselves a lot of time and a hell of a lot more money. Ahh - so it's already the fault of someone else if it all goes tits up. Cheers. As for democratic vote - that referendum was a lot of things... Advisory for a start. I read the white paper when it was announced - 'cause I'm sad and want to be informed like that.

Look Guy Nothing is going to go tits up, if it does maybe you could then bring it to our attention but until then, Do me a favour As of this morning I've now lost my political rights in this country (can't vote any more in local elections). That's one thing that's gone tits up already. So I pay taxes here but now, due to my new status as 'third country national', I have no representation. And since in the last UK parliament, the debate and vote on extending overseas voting rights beyond fifteen years was filibustered out of time by a Tory stooge, I will have no electoral vote in the UK as a British citizen. There is still no certainty about my right to stay and work here because of the UK government dragging their feet and wanting to look tough in negotiations with the EU. My driving license is technically invalid but the french government have given British citizens a further grace period of eleven months - because the UK government is doing fuck all for citizen rights.

Brexit, by Fast Eddie on Feb 1, 2020 23:54:59 GMT 1, These are very real concerns for many of us.
Yet the big economic costs are not even here - they will be coming online later.
There are no big gains in sight under any reasonable scenario. Maybe the UK will not lose a lot right away, but it will get poorer and less stable over time.
It is a totally unforced error and a real pity. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Brexit, by pfffffffffft on Feb 2, 2020 3:01:52 GMT 1, If you foolish folk had respected the democratic vote 3 years ago you could have saved the country and yourselves a lot of time and a hell of a lot more money. US citizen here. Up front I say the US political system is a mess and I probably have no right to chime in on your mess but...I find it unusual that in the UK the majority of a minority gets to be prime minister. Because your political system is so splintered you could have the "Elephants in Funny Hats" party get enough votes to be in charge but not really have enough support of the overall population to have a mandate to make all elephants wear funny hats which basically deadlocks the PMs agenda. That said...
The problem with your "democratic" vote three years ago are the same problems we had in the US in 2016.
Your brexiteers lied to the voters, numerous times. Documented.
Foreign interference in your election. Seems there's quite a lot of smoke on that one but unsurprising considering what happened in our US elections.
So, was it a free and fair election when the voters were manipulated and lied to?

Itโs only not a free and fair election when the vote doesnโt go your way
