Theresa May seeks General Election, by Daniel Silk on Jun 9, 2017 18:22:49 GMT 1, Daniel Silk I'm finding the seats/percentages on your image v strange... it says Conservatives on 318 seats +5.5% from 2015!? Off the top of my head didn't they get 331 seats in 2015 so the % should be minus? Similarly with the SNP, didn't they lose 21 seats from the 56 they won in 2015? Yet the % change is only -1.7%! Can you clarify the stats you posted are legitimate. Maybe I shouldn't hav stayed up all night chuckling into my cheap glass of cab sauv! I think the percentages are votes not seats.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Agent Provocateur on Jun 9, 2017 18:27:24 GMT 1, Ahhh cheers Daniel Silk that explains it... but still very bad information design as knowhere does it state the percentages are for the vote share. Reading that it looks like the % figures are about seats gained and lost.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by tartarus on Jun 9, 2017 18:28:49 GMT 1, oh dear, such a shame ha ha ha.
Corbyns time is coming. No more bullshit about unelectable, no more bullshit about him not being supported, no more possibility of his MP's stabbing him in the back, a new proper version of labour. No more ability for the media to play the fear card as their ammunition just got shown for the bollox it always was.
Hope has prevailed over the hate of the Tory, and its now only a matter of time and another election before Corbyn is where he would be today but for all the media bias, lies and manipulation of truths (or as its better known, some rich wankers hijacking your democracy). one small step in the right direction and the end of the nasty party for at least a few parliamentary terms. all the next few weeks are is a dull decay of control and the rise of infighting and backstabbing the Tory party are so well known for. Looking forward to it, should be a good show.

I look forward to the backstabbing 'refuse to serve' members of the PLP trying to crawl their way back into favour, now that they realise that Corbyn is here to stay. I suspect many of them will have been expecting to have been calling for his head this morning and are now backtracking.
Chuka Umunna was particularly slimey on the coverage last night.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Deleted on Jun 9, 2017 19:37:58 GMT 1, It was definately a vote winner, abolishing student fees. Lots of young people voted Labour.
What did Corbyn mean when he said today, "I am ready to serve" ?
A lot of people lost trust in Conservatives due to the dodgy Brexit campaign run by liar Johnson and the lack of direction by the Tories May after Brexit.
UKIP is a weird one. On the one hand Farage said he created UKIP to take supporters away from BNP, as in ruin BNP gaining support. On the other hand UKIP looks like a gravy train for Farage and nothing more and on another hand an old boys club. Just seeing UKIP councillors and members tweets they come across as not all there sometimes and certainly have no clear party view.
Brexit is not rocket science and the UK does have a few aces it can use against the EU to get a good deal but the Tories too gutless to use them.
UKIP could rebuild itself if they get rid of Farage stop chasing money and refuse backers like Aaron banks and start again rather than catering to city boys.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Harveyn on Jun 9, 2017 19:54:09 GMT 1, Stayed up most of the night watching the whole episode unfold with respect to the UK Mainland. Far more interesting and lets be frank significant than the polarized politics of the North of Ireland.
For me Corbyn's honesty and even more surprisingly enthusiasm won me over. I just feel that issue's like fee free education for him are heart felt as opposed to purely being pitched to win votes. I have no doubt that he is not 100% behind all of Labour's manifesto especially around foreign policy but again he is honest enough to say its not just about his opinion. Given the diversity of issues how can any one leader be expected to be 100% behind all of their parties deliverables.
I would say his popularity has continued to grow but there is still some credibility issues over how they would balance the books.
The election was clearly an opportunity for the "Remain" voters to air their annoyance.
What I would say is that if the DUP have managed to position themselves alongside the Conservatives to the point of having any influence be very concerned. Their incompetence makes Diane Abbot look like Einstein. As for corruption, homophobia and narrow mindedness, well they have that prize all to themselves.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by ed on Jun 9, 2017 20:20:26 GMT 1, If there is another general election in the near future, all the Tory attack lines can just now be used against them.
Corbyn, and what is likely to be the reforming of the Labour party/plp around him, will look strong and stable.
May is activating what is likely to be a coalition of chaos with the DUP
Corbyn will be able to go into the next election on a very similair manifesto, mild tweaks. The Tory's will have to rewrite theirs and that'll be a hard arguements in the same year.
And if this con/DUP coalition rumbles on for a while, any socially progressive reputation they had from Cameron (gay marriage etc) will be destroyed.
And what...Boris as leader? Ha:

Theresa May seeks General Election, by frankiefrench on Jun 9, 2017 21:46:55 GMT 1, a decision to hold a GE completely backfired on May, no where near steam rolled over anyone and short over an overall majority as the polls tightened, and that brexit mandate weakened. I always suspected this was her plan from day one. Conservatives had all the leeway to negotiate Brexit, the risk of this election was always going to outweigh the reward, and it looks like they deliberately ran the worst campaign possible to push that risk. I always thought May was sabotaging herself so she would not have to negotiate the impossible Brexit thing. At the minimum she has now created a very visible domestic enemy (hung parliament) to blame any negative outcome... Agreed, spot on. She was a REMAIN campaigner and this so called snap election (that she said she would never call) is yet another tactical chess move to try and wriggle off the hook and actively sabotage Brexit as well as pass the buck onto whoever is unlucky enough to pick up the pieces of this mess. Each time the people get a chance to make a difference now they are using their votes to bash the Tories who are nothing more than puppets of big Bu$inยฃS$ and the rich upper classes. Maggie MAY is just a wannabe Thatcher. I dont support any of them so no i'm not extolling any virtues of CORBaChov either.

And thank whotsit for that!
Another election will be called within a month and he will smash it now the bullshit has been exposed for what it was. Cant wait!!!

Then when the bigger picture of what last night means has shown itself, tell me again how Labour lost.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Coach on Jun 9, 2017 22:28:03 GMT 1, Labour can to do even better in the next election but with so many smaller, left of centre parties splitting the vote it's going to be difficult to ever win without a coalition! I think if UKIP get a better leader in place, both them and Lib Dem will gain seats from Labour and Conservative in the next election. I think any party in the future getting a majority will be very unlikely.
Ukip's day is done. They were a protest party, campaigning for one issue, that has been decided (in their favour sadly). It was inevitable that thereafter they would die away. After their one issue was decided they have no purpose, and that was illustrated today.

who is clutching at hope here? Anyway, your looking at the small picture and not seeing the reality. Thats cool. Ive said what i see happening and im happy to leave it at that. time will tell, and debating it with you now is pointless.
You celebrate the tory victory if you want, ill celebrate the real victory.

Is it me or did the conservatives still get the most votes and the most seats? so they strengthened their position did they?

Theresa May seeks General Election, by love on Jun 9, 2017 23:21:02 GMT 1, Brexit is not rocket science and the UK does have a few aces it can use against the EU to get a good deal but the Tories too gutless to use them. What are the UK Aces? Can't find them.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Deleted on Jun 9, 2017 23:34:06 GMT 1, i dont think you quite have a grip on what happened. But ill go as far as to say May will be gone soon, youll get a short bust of Boris, a general election, and a corbyn win with a 50- 100 seat majority. Probably within 3-4 months. Then when the bigger picture of what last night means has shown itself, tell me again how Labour lost.ย
Dude, you seem pretty militant labour, which is fine. But, Labour lost and there's just no getting away from that. They did well but ultimately not that well.
Over the years I've worked with a few MPs and now and again I've been fortunate to spend time supporting cabinet and shadow ministers (mainly health) of all parties, and I've learnt from those experiences that there are pros and cons with them all. It's certainly not black and white as the media would have you believe. My take is that the current crop of MPs is possibly the worst I've ever come across; certainly the worst in living memory for health and social care. So not a great result for the country.
Plus doing a deal with the DUP is unbelievably shortsighted; good luck to the Tories when they have to broker those NI power sharing talks in a couple of months.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Deleted on Jun 9, 2017 23:51:34 GMT 1, Usually when a political party loses an election, the leader of the party resigns.
I don't think all Labour MP's will support Corbyn for another five years who will be 73 if the next general election is held in five years. Plus Corbyn if Labour wins the next general election will be the oldest British prime minister ever.

I can see the better good in what we have on offer and also the reality of what just happened. I know that may not roll with you, and thats cool. But im fairly certain how this will play out. And time will tell if im right.
Ive had an interest one way or another in politics since i helped organise the demos against the criminal justice bill in the early 90's. So im not exactly naive, ive also studied politics at A level and kept an interest. so again, not exactly naive to it.
they wont be doing any deals with anyone in a few months, they will be packing their bags and jogging on. Stupid decision to jump into bed with the DUP just shows her desperation her lack of foresight lack of decent advisors and her stupidity. They will destroy her.
Dont worry about trying to prove me wrong, if i am, time will do that for you.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Coach on Jun 10, 2017 0:38:44 GMT 1, oh dear, such a shame ha ha ha. Corbyns time is coming. No more bullshit about unelectable, no more bullshit about him not being supported, no more possibility of his MP's stabbing him in the back, a new proper version of labour. No more ability for the media to play the fear card as their ammunition just got shown for the bollox it always was. The general consensus of political analysts is that it was a very good result for labour and a vary bad result for labour. Now, of course the torys have formed a minority government. But when she called the election may expected a landslide. Instead she lost a majority. Yes she remains the PM. But only a very few fanatics are claiming it a victory for the right. Any of the above wrong?

Being Dutch I don't follow UK politics all that well, but after spending a few hours reading up on the subject I get the same idea as what happend in the media here after our elections: It's being portrayed as a huge victory for the left while, in reality, the majority of people voted right. The conservatives only lost like 3.6% of their seats right?
MSM in action I guess
Also yeah, I'm pretty sure this is not what May had hoped for when facing a candidate like Corbyn.
