Theresa May seeks General Election, by Deleted on Jun 10, 2017 1:33:44 GMT 1, Being Dutch I don't follow UK politics all that well, but after spending a few hours reading up on the subject I get the same idea as what happend in the media here after our elections: It's being portrayed as a huge victory for the left while, in reality, the majority of people voted right. MSM in action I guess I don't know what msm means. MSM Definition / MSM Means
The definition of MSM is "Mainstream Media"

The conservatives only lost like 3.6% of their seats right? MSM in action I guess Also yeah, I'm pretty sure this is not what May had hoped for when facing a candidate like Corbyn. You don't follow uk politics. Fair enough. I can tell you that the torys are not claiming victory. Enough said? I mean I understand May called for this election to strengthen her position, and she didn't, she lost a little, but yet she still won the election and get to form a government. I get how labour would be happy that they booked some sort of victory, seats-wise, but they still lost the election, in every objectively measurable way possible. That's not the narrative you get from the MSM.

Yes,may has a minority government. But this was a disaster for her and the torys. Happy days.

I think the points are that:
She called an election in an attempt to wipe out Labour Party and didn't. Instead she reinvigorated them.
She called an election to strengthen her hard Brexit mandate and did the opposite.
She lost seats for her party
She has members of her party wanting her to quit.
She has had to make an alliance with a very unsavoury party - which will likely danger support
The right wing press has turned against her.
A huge amount of the young vote (70%) voted against her. This number will likey go up next year.
So taking into account the above - aside from forming a minority government there is little to cheer about for her and the story party.
But Lord Buckethead and Mr Fishfinger were great.

It always strikes me as odd that the mainstream media (which are mostly, if not all, leftist) tends to overlook that part when an election doesn't go exactly their way and they just frame it in a certain way. Same happend here with our latest election.
I had to google Lord Buckethead, and now I'm in love with the fact you have the Monster Raving Loony Party. We need this in our politics.
Also, something I'm curious about, not knowing that much about British politics: How right wing are the Tories on the entire political spectrum? I get the idea that you don't really have a 'right wing' like they do in America, am I correct in saying so?

I would disagree about the MSM.
Certainly the majority of the newspapers - the sun (biggest selling paper in the UK) The Times (also Rupert Murdoch) Telegraph, Daily Mail are all right wing and supported her. The MSM had not only predicted up to a 100 seat majority for the conservatives but also been publishing very anti-Corbyn stories. This same MSM can't be leftist and right wing. Seems you are doing the reframing.
In terms of how right wing - I'm in States and English.
The Conservative party are Republicans - but not as far right although there is an overlap in ideology. Particularly privatisation and healthcare.

If you cant see that, people are wasting their time trying to explain it to you.
Its not that we are wrong, more that you are incapable or unwilling to understand. It couldnt have been more laid out for you.
you dont understand our politics, but to your credit, you are every bit as clued up as out prime minister so dont feel bad. she wont be around long though. And when she has left, you can bang on again about how she won the election.

It's just like the EU Referendum, they will not accept the result if it doesn't go their way. Have they started a petition yet?

But do you really think she will be in post in a months time? no is surely the realistic answer to that.
Its a bit like falling off a cliff and on the way down you say to yourself
"wow thats truely amazing, im such a winner as i just missed that really big branch."
Your still going to be fucked when you get to the bottom though eh.
Face it dude whatever way you spin it, she fucked it right up.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Stoko on Jun 10, 2017 10:37:45 GMT 1, Getting into bed with DUP will be the worst mistake she makes. Ever. Rebirth of the IRA. How many people who voted Tory would support this? I voted Lib Dem the election they got into bed with the Conservatives, and the Lib Dems have been toast ever since and the same could happen to the Conservatives with them having to rebrand themselves in the same way labour did in the 90s. Corbin did so well without even the backing of his party. Now he has them on board, if there was to be another election (without Brexit looming surely this would be on the cards?) then Labour would absolutely walk it.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Deleted on Jun 10, 2017 13:51:08 GMT 1, Dude, you seem pretty militant labour, which is fine. But, Labour lost and there's just no getting away from that. They did well but ultimately not that well. Over the years I've worked with a few MPs and now and again I've been fortunate to spend time supporting cabinet and shadow ministers (mainly health) of all parties, and I've learnt from those experiences that there are pros and cons with them all. It's certainly not black and white as the media would have you believe. My take is that the current crop of MPs is possibly the worst I've ever come across; certainly the worst in living memory for health and social care. So not a great result for the country. Plus doing a deal with the DUP is unbelievably shortsighted; good luck to the Tories when they have to broker those NI power sharing talks in a couple of months. never voted for blair, have voted green and independent in the past so im not militant anything. I can see the better good in what we have on offer and also the reality of what just happened. I know that may not roll with you, and thats cool. But im fairly certain how this will play out. And time will tell if im right. Ive had an interest one way or another in politics since i helped organise the demos against the criminal justice bill in the early 90's. So im not exactly naive, ive also studied politics at A level and kept an interest. so again, not exactly naive to it. they wont be doing any deals with anyone in a few months, they will be packing their bags and jogging on. Stupid decision to jump into bed with the DUP just shows her desperation her lack of foresight lack of decent advisors and her stupidity. They will destroy her. Dont worry about trying to prove me wrong, if i am, time will do that for you.
Was the bill made to deal with mass trespass and illegal raves?

Personally religion and politics should be seperate and it seems some decisions made by the DUP are entirely based on religious doctrine. I think some of the DUP members are part of some cult where they belive the earth is only ten thousand years old.

I don't see anyone saying they won't accept the result. I don't see anyone arguing that they didn't get the most votes or the most seats. No one is arguing that they have not formed a minority government. But anyone claiming that the result was a success for the torys is simply wrong. Even May said the result was disappointing.

Yes Dan, 8 weeks back the Tories were sitting in a position of strength with their own wee majority; Jeremy Corbyn and Laour were seen as a figure of fun but now to get anything though parliament the Tories need to sell their souls to the DUP. This can only be described as a fabulous victory indeed, surprised there was no tickertape parade along the banks of the Thames.
It wouldnt surprise me if enlisting the DUP costs them the Scottish Tory MP's support; their female leader is about to get married to her long term Irish Catholic lesbian partner. I doubt that Arlene will be getting an invite to the nuptials not that she would accept unless to protest of course.
Who got the most votes and the most seats? It's just like the EU Referendum, they will not accept the result if it doesn't go their way. Have they started a petition yet? Yes Dan, 8 weeks back the Tories were sitting in a position of strength with their own wee majority; Jeremy Corbyn and Laour were seen as a figure of fun but now to get anything though parliament the Tories need to sell their souls to the DUP. This can only be described as a fabulous victory indeed, surprised there was no tickertape parade along the banks of the Thames. Theresa May seeks General Election, by Deleted on Jun 10, 2017 15:30:09 GMT 1, Meanwhile, peaceful liberal Labour supporters threaten to riot and violence if labour lose.
The true face of the (fascist) far left indeed.

all those far left fascists do is prevent the protest from being taken seriously with their antics. So not on the side of the protestors or democracy.

It's just not true. I could find someone to say (or write an article online) that the earth is flat. Doesn't make it true. Don't believe everything you read. You need a common sense filter.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by Deleted on Jun 10, 2017 18:25:09 GMT 1, The left only likes democracy when they win and/or get their way in every regard possible.
Lose a democratic election where the majority of people votes against them?
There will be petitions. There will be protests. There will be riots.
Lose an argument over facts and logic?
They will call you a racist, fascist, bigot, transfobe, and all of their fancy hype words to still try to get their way and to be able to tell themselves that they actually won the argument.
It's so weird to watch every time this happens.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by tartarus on Jun 10, 2017 18:43:46 GMT 1, Getting into bed with DUP will be the worst mistake she makes. ย It does seem worrying in some ways. No doubt May and the Tories, will make consessions in the DUP's interests as part of the deal. ย Personally religion and politics should be seperate and it seems some decisions made by the DUP are entirely based on religious doctrine. I think some of the DUP members are part of some cult where they belive the earth is only ten thousand years old.
Yes ploppi if your a simpleton that's all it was about.

Theresa May seeks General Election, by mutatis on Jun 10, 2017 18:57:22 GMT 1, I mean I understand May called for this election to strengthen her position, and she didn't, she lost a little, but yet she still won the election and get to form a government. I get how labour would be happy that they booked some sort of victory, seats-wise, but they still lost the election, in every objectively measurable way possible. That's not the narrative you get from the MSM. Yes,may has a minority government. But this was a disaster for her and the torys. Happy days. I think it would be fair to say that the result was a disaster for the country as a whole, regardless of political persuasion.

Yes, the idea was that she wanted the country as a whole to back her going into the EU negotiations, regardless of their normal political party beliefs.
