BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by Deleted on May 12, 2017 18:06:32 GMT 1, Youre completely missing the point, it doesnt matter if it takes 10 mins or 10 years if they have a tarp up. BUT, Exactly how long do you think its takes to paint a blue square, 12 stars and a man ? Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. His team re does a whole restaurant interieur in a few hours.
and all the food the staff try on his new menu is still hot
Ramsey is banksy
What an act, good job

BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by stillborncrisps on May 14, 2017 13:00:11 GMT 1, You really think a piece that size takes 'a few hours'?? Youre completely missing the point, it doesnt matter if it takes 10 mins or 10 years if they have a tarp up. BUT, Exactly how long do you think its takes to paint a blue square, 12 stars and a man ? Well I've misplaced my time and motion study notebook so can't give you accurate figures.
But based on observations of artists at events such as Upfest (who have access to scissor lifts, etc making their job 'easier'), and remembering to allow for drying time between each colour/layer, plus all the initial marking out (those stars are in /perfect/ alignment with each other), I would expect this to have taken 24hrs if done by one person. With a team, maybe 12hrs.
Feel free to paint the side of a house blue and correct me if you achieve it in a shorter time.

BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by Deleted on May 15, 2017 10:20:03 GMT 1, I'm sure a professional team of painters could have done the whole thing in a few hours including a break for a pub lunch.
In reality the unveiling of this very big artwork was very underwhelming and the novelty has worn off. It could even be the beginning of the end for street art.
It's like the magician who amazes us with grand illusions untill people find out how the trick is done.
A massive stencil and painted artwork appearing overnight on the side of a building is great to discover but when it's the result of money and a paid team of professionals who erect the scaffold and tarpaulin, and paint the thing as some done to order job. It's underwhelming as the amazement has worn off.
Add to that, that the only interest in writing about it by journo hacks is about how much it's worth and it culd sell for a million quid etc etc. Plus the many posts on here about the value of the Banksy at auction or other place.
Bigger is not always better or more impressive.

BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by stillborncrisps on May 15, 2017 15:43:57 GMT 1, I watched Shep with 3 helpers paint a giant Obey design on a building using a platform hoist. It took them 5 days. And they were only doing one colour (on top of a pre-prepared background colour).
Think of the giant rats Banksy got those 'proffessional' mural guys to paint in New York ("There's no such thing as good publicity") - it took them days.
I challenge anyone to recreate the Dover piece with a team as big as you like in 'a few hours'. The logistics just don't stack up. Proffessional or otherwise.
Agree with you on the magician's trick though. The illusion has been tarnished a little with the more we know about his methods. Ignorance is bliss.

You a taking this 'few hours' comment a tad too literally .
... you are also giving team banksy far too much credit for how hard that is to execute .
either way, its a cool looking piece, but a year too late.

BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by Always Second on Aug 25, 2019 20:43:01 GMT 1, www.kentlive.news/news/kent-news/live-updates-banksy-dover-gone-3249857
A community is in shock as a stand-out Banksy mural appears to have been "painted over".
The famous street art was painted on the side of Dover 's old Castle Amusements building in Townwall Street on May 7, 2017.
It showed a man chipping away at the EU flag, resembling the country's position to leave the EU.
It is hard for anyone to miss as they arrive in the town - and its location struck a powerful message for pre-Brexit Britain, given its prominence to traffic heading into the Port of Dover.
Earlier this month we revealed the painting had started to deteriorate , with parts of it becoming flaky.
Dover freight worker says a no deal Brexit will be 'economic suicide' for the UK
But this weekend a four tier scaffolding was erected, and as of this morning (August 25) the bright mural appears to have vanished.
People have speculated that it has been painted over, but it is not clear whether the mural has been taken away or put into protection.
The Castle Amusements building, owned by the well known Godden family, has not been used for some time.
It has been earmarked for demolition as part of the Dover Western Docks Revival project.
Originally, The Goddens said they were exploring whether to keep, remove or sell the Dover piece, and earlier this year it was valued at £1 million.
But the piece’s value is intrinsically linked to its location, with one art expert suggesting it would lose around three quarters of its asking price if moved from Dover.

BANKSY in Dover, Brexit, by pollz66 on Sept 12, 2019 17:07:58 GMT 1, Are we sure they haven't just removed it rather than painted over it? I say this because the people who own the Dover building the Brexit piece was painted on previously removed and tried sell another Banksy from the wall of building they leased over in Folkestone (until they were told by the courts to give it back.) I can't see them deliberately missing out on another Banksy.
