The London road area isn't a nice trendy and hip yet slightly tatty area - it's just a mess. The 'cash for gold' pawn shops and 99p stores could be from any town so it is actually a very sterile soulless area that doesn't reflect most other parts of Brigjton at all.
Nothing is more soulless than a boarded up shop window and London Road seems to have more than most other areas.
It's a shame as the residential area around Preston Park just up the road is a lovely area but around London Road has been neglected for so long it's really gone downhill over the years.

I know you could do these last two things anywhere but it's such sh***y weather here right now they could be your back up plans. If the weather improves tomorrow (yeah right) then the beach or a walk on The Downs would be nice. Maybe a visit to Brighton Pier too. As for galleries I'd say that Ink'd and Art Republic are the two places worth seeing here - they're both in a great central location in The Laines so near lots of other shops if the kids get bored!!

Sorry I've never used it so couldn't answer that. I usually just walk into town.

Ink'd is a great gallery, they always have some secret stash of goodies  if you go to art republic check out, carne griffith, dave white, jake evans wood, works, they seem to have good relations with the artist and represent them a lot. really great works. I have a dave white water colour and its just amazing.
restaurants to visit ginger dog, sams, . on the whole the place is full of bars and restaurants, brilliant for veggies. Chaulas or planet india for veggie curry. 64 bdegrees is amazing as well
I would go to the green door store for a night out, its got a very student feel but for all ages
if your driving pop over to lewes, they have a castle and pretty place on the whole. if the kemp town carnival is on when you go, its a lot of fun

Maybe a stroll along Madiera Drive left of the pier where the Mods/rocker clashes of 1964 took place be sure to pop into my mate's gallery there selling all kinds of mod related artworks...seeing as its 50 years on this month could be in order or you have the sea life centre for the kids opposite the pier. As said Choccywoccydoodah is in north laines near no walls gallery and the kids will love a chocolate overload in there!

That's great (really I mean that that's not sarcasm). I love living here and if I ever move Brighton will always be a special place for me. There's certainly a buzz here that's hard to find in many other places : )

You're dead right about the buzz matey, I've only ever lived in one other city - Bath and although I enjoyed it I always craved to come home. eclectic, diverse, quirky, underground, multi accepting, beautiful, and Sir Sacked lives here!
