Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by PUD on Dec 1, 2009 19:26:45 GMT 1, HH agree with you, but like most (I think) my wishlist is longer than my can afford list... as a result the balance between percieved and actual value becomes more important. i.e. I have a top 5 prints I want... but I won't necessarily buy them in my order of want... if two on that list pop up (and I have funds) I'll buy the one I think is the better deal first. I'm not sure if I'm rambling or not... but I think I'm saying that it's prudent to pay a little more than the market will pay for a piece but not necessarily as much as you would value it at (if the latter is greater than the former). Am I making any sense (help!)?
Perfect sense, i bloody wish I had waited and saved myself 3k who wouldnt, but........I aint losing sleep over it, thats what I had to pay at the time and I wanted it before they started fetching £10k+ (which for a while they did)
I still think that it is a great time to buy early Banksy work, its a buyers market, Banksy has his place in history, it cant be taken away, give it 2-5 years and see how much your prints are worth by him!! You will kick yourselves for not buying when prices were 'reasonable'!

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by j4mb0 on Dec 1, 2009 19:29:42 GMT 1, i understand where you're coming from howlin but i think you misunderstand where i'm coming from. when i bought this print, i wasn't into buying art so much as i was into street art in general. I bought it for £100 which was a lot for me and it was on my wall for years until i discovered the value had shot up. it then became the most valuable thing i owned. people like me don't get this kind of opportunity very often and every penny i can raise from its sale is important.
i'm not trying to rip anyone off or anything, just trying to make the most of it. in the same way that if i came into some money, i'd need to ask someone for financial advice to put it to best use, i need advice from people on this forum as to when best to sell the print.
i'd be happy swapping this print on the wall with any of the other prints i have by lesser known artists.
i could let it go for 2k and it would be a great deal of money to me, but if im told it's worth 4, or in a year 5 or even more, then i can't really afford to sell now.
I hope people understand my thinking. a lot of you are collectors, so i value your opinions.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by j4mb0 on Dec 1, 2009 19:51:37 GMT 1, well, like i said previously in the thread I do have other means of raising money if now's not the best time to bring out the banksy. if you think it'll be worth more in the future, then i'll hold onto it.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by manty on Dec 1, 2009 20:45:50 GMT 1, Its a bit of a crystal ball question.
At the moment I think its a pure guess on how much money is around, if you think the economy will get better next year hold fire until then and you'll get more, if you think its the other way, then sell now.
If you kept it on your wall for another 15 years, it may be worth £50k, or it may be worth £300 dependant on whether people still collect from this genre, and a few other factors :-)
At the end of the day its a print that you paid £100 for, if you get £? k for it now thats a pretty good return.
Maybe a way of selling, if you do decide to is to set a price of say £3k + and the best offer over that you recieve in a week secures, you would just need to update the thread with the highest bid recieved on a daily basis
Also please be aware some people are quite anal when spending this kind of money about the condition of the print. If it has been framed without UV glass, the print may have deteriorated, and people may want to have the print removed from frame to check condition.
(If you have heard of guys that collect comics and store them in the loft still in its wrapper, never opened or touched then that should give you an idea of how anal people can be in this collecting thing)
they will also ask for Pest control COA, which will cost around £50 to get.
Good luck with your decision, hopefully see you back same time next year :-)
PS I think its a great print

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by lobster on Dec 1, 2009 23:23:16 GMT 1, Interesting thread !!!
If you don`t mind me saying I think you are looking at this from the wrong point of view -
This print you paid £100 and lets just say you sold it today for £3250 (which is about what I think it is woth for CASH) then surely you have made £3150 ? The fact that as Jon said you may have got £7500 for it 2 years ago doesn`t mean you "lost" £4250 (the difference in profit) - you haven`t "lost" at all surely you can only gain ? What you mean is you "could" have made more if selling at various different times but how were you to know exactly when to sell ?
The other thing to consider is of course you have (I assume) enjoyed the print over the period of time you have had it and also you MAY need the cash NOW which of course means that is another factor to consider ?
To be honest if I bought a print for £100 , had enjoyed it for a number of years and it was now "only" worth £3K more than I paid - what a teriffic problem to have !!!!!
Either way good luck with whatever you decide.

That sucks - buying comics and never getting to read them, what's the point (other than the possible potential to make money) ?

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by monkeyballs on Dec 2, 2009 0:15:55 GMT 1, What artist has greater captured the imagination of a global audience in the last 5 years? People won't forget barely legal, bethlehem ghetto, cans festival, pet store, the bristol museum show. Each has been an event of very significant precedent and alongside these events he made art a commodity anyone can own and indeed create for themselves. Anyone can be a gallery, anyone an artist.
Andy warhol, a very long and illustrious career, returns around 1,960,000 results on google. Banksy is up to about 682,000. I think its fair to say he reached out globally after LA, so that is not a bad start in terms of global recognition in just over 3 years.
If you want the best return on your print, keep it for a few decades, he will come to be a zeitgeist artist of this time, whether he wanted to do that or not! With zeitgeist comes memory and with memory, value.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by curiousgeorge on Dec 2, 2009 12:03:46 GMT 1, The difference between 7.5k and 3.2k is rather substantial
Now the owner finds himself in a totally understandable quandary, wouldn't take a massive stretch of the imagination to see selling this at sub 4k as losing money. Hence i might add so much stuff has gone unsold here and on ebay due to people wanting crazy days prices
Flame suit on but there is a tiny undercurrent of sell it now and still make 3k profit!!

Hahahaha. Touche! I meant that as a 2003 edition of 150 costing £100 or so... that many of these were probably bluetacked or pinned to walls. Or just generally lost or mistreated.
As opposed to a 2007 edition of 150 (like Applause) where Banksy was a better known commodity. ;D
I think £3k would be a great price for this for a buyer. With some of the newer prints (grannies, applause, NOLA's, gold flag etc) fetching around the £3k mark... i would (personally) class it closer to the (bombhugger, GWB, LIITA) £4k-£5k+ or more mark?

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by weeble on Jan 5, 2010 13:22:08 GMT 1, Hi everyone
Unfortunately I might need to sell my signed Weston Super Mare. Wondered if I were to sell it, what might be the best way to do it - advertise it here for a fixed price, open it to offers, or stick it on the 'Bay? Not sure what a good/fair price would be to advertise it for? What are they going for lately? Any opinions most welcome!

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by beani on Feb 1, 2010 21:39:05 GMT 1, Hi all,
I am new here and would like some advice if possible.
I bought a WSM print from a concession called Artomatic in Selfridges in London, roughly 2003.
It's not signed and I would like to sell it, could you advise on the best way to do this?
Also, do I have to get it authenticated somehow? If yes, how do I do this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by Deleted on Feb 12, 2010 18:30:37 GMT 1, Hi,
I'm looking to sell my Banksy Unsigned Weston Super Mare - purchased by me from Art Republic, I'm original owner. Print will be sold with the benefit of PC which I will obtain.
The print was purchased framed and has remained so, thus it is in perfect condition, as issued.
Ideally, I'm looking for £1200 which although slightly higher than recent sales is reasonable given known history and PC.
Delivery / Collection in central London is preferred or I'll drive a little within reason to facilitate a meet.
Thanks for looking.

Hi, I'm looking to sell my Banksy Unsigned Weston Super Mare - purchased by me from Art Republic, I'm original owner. Attachments:

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by dragnim on Feb 19, 2010 21:40:17 GMT 1, This is really just a test the water post. I have a weston, not signed. Bought at what I think was Bankys 2nd exhibition. (the one with the painted animals).
If anyone is interested please pm me. - I don't want to get peoples hopes up if this is a print they are really wanting as I've not 100% decided if I want to sell it. Its just at the moment I can think of more important things to buy in my life than a bit of card hanging on the wall.
Peace.

Banksy • Weston Super Mare Print, by Deleted on Feb 21, 2010 18:45:37 GMT 1, Shameless Sunday evening bump.
Lots of interest but thus far remain c £100 from where I'd like to be - so for clarity I'd be a happy bunny at £1000 net to me. This means sale price of £1065 as I have too pay for PC still. No cash changes hands until I've got this....
I'd look at some swap offers but principally would prefer cash - any swaps would have to result in me getting c £765 plus something worth c. £300 open market value.
I'd add that I would travel a reasonable distance to meet - the world doesn't revolve around London. Hemel Hempstead in the M1 is about 50 minutes for me in illustration, that would work.
Thks.
