The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by lukas01 on Jan 29, 2024 14:18:40 GMT 1, There's a fine line between being supportive, and enabling. If YOUR partner told you that Banksy, Paul Insect, Shepard Fairey, Damien Hirst, Ben Eine, Jamie Hewlett, Sir Elton John, Jo Brooks, Christie's, Sotheby's, and Adam Bloom, were all conspiring to hold you back, to destroy your artistic career, what would you do? What if the person you loved, the person you married (maybe both), told you that there was this shadowy art cabal, so powerful, they could manipulate the world's art market, yet so weak, you're going to bring them all down with shitposts and memes on facebook. What would you do? How would you support them? As my late father used to say, "We all need a purpose in life. Who wouldn't want a small dolphin?" There are always powerful people in this world. There is always a wife who manages to subjugate her husband. I have a brother who earned a lot of money thanks to me. Thanks to his wife, my brother finally said that I stole his money. After taking me for a thief, he checked all the payments to him and they had all gone to him. How did it end? The wife ended up saying I was an asshole. My brother said the same thing (Thai parrot type). We haven't spoken to each other for many years. Women are sometimes the downfall of some men. Some men don't joke either. When you find two guys like that, it's best to stay away from them.
Banksy? One day we will be in charge. But perhaps in a joking tone.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by lukas01 on Jan 29, 2024 14:28:45 GMT 1, There are always powerful people in this world..... .... .... I'm sorry that happened to you..... .... ... They are life experiences. It means that in my life, this was one of the passages that I should have experienced. No regrets. If I went back, even with the same result, I would still make him earn everything. Experiences, some experiences, must be lived to understand what goes around us and what our role is in this existence. ๐
Banksy doesn't care about these two. I believe he has always done the general good of Street Art.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by drip on Jan 29, 2024 14:37:48 GMT 1, All jokes and weirdly personal, but heartfelt revelations aside, I don't think it's helpful for JPS to blame anyone for his lack of career progression. If anything, JPS has advantages over the majority of other stencil artists out there. He can clearly paint, he taps into that movie pop culture nostalgia thing, and he has a supportive partner.
Banksy's success triggered a whole bunch of stencil artists, unfortunately. But JPS's work stands out from the crowd, usually because he signs it, usually because it's horror-related, but it IS identifiable.
I'll often come across a JPS piece and think, "Hey, it's that guy."
I don't know his financial situation (I won't get into the Dismaland cardboard allegations), but it looks like his work sells. He has fans. If he concentrated on that, I have no doubt he will be financially successful, unlike the vast majority of stencil artists.
I just don't know what kind of next-level step JPS thinks he's being held back from. I can see celebrities and well-off folk wanting something by him on their wall. But are the major auction houses or hedge funds ever going to want a road sign with (an extremely detailed) Freddy Krueger next to the words "Traffic was a NIGHTMARE" on it?
JPS, you've got skills, a supportive partner, and a fanbase that gets you. Maybe focus on that. You can still have a dig at Banksy, sure, but maybe keep the "art war" stuff as a bit of a side gig. Don't let it come before the good things you have in your life.
And don't be bitter. Nobody likes bitter. People will tolerate it at first, but eventually it just drives people away.
Edit: So this thread doesn't get derailed, I'll end on an Elton John note. What's everyone's favourite Elton John track? I like "Daniel", but it always makes me cry because I associate it with my father's death by choking.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by churchwood on Jan 29, 2024 15:29:19 GMT 1, Good response Drip - fair and reasoned and a good way to draw a line hopefully.
To keep on track, I don't have a favourite Elton track. Not my cup of tea, I did watch him on the BBC coverage of Glastonbury last year, more out of some strange sense of duty.
I fully expected to make it through one song and turn it off but I ended up watching the whole thing.
I do like the Me First and the Gimme Gimme's cover of Rocket Man though

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Jules Leotard on Jan 30, 2024 3:58:56 GMT 1, I'm just going to leave this here... It seems to have progressed to a stage where the second person believes they are helping UAA forum members to become aware of vital information! I agree with Drip's assessment that JPS is more talented than a lot of stencil artists, but at the end of the day there are three potential outcomes from his and Minecraft's absurdity and two of them play into their hands. A) Everyone dismisses them as nutters and we move on, yet they will continue to harass the forum, B) We all 'waken' and think JPS is very astute, much more so than everyone else and buy into his brand of nutter-ism, C) They draw attention to his work by their persistent aggravation of the forum.
At the end of the day, ignoring this rubbish is most productive as it doesn't 'gratify' the antagonists. The situation strikes me that, for people who want attention, negative attention is a better result than no attention at all. Those kicking out links to their facebook pages, etc., ...that makes them happy. Clicks are delicious.
I've always viewed mental health issues as somewhat contagious. There is a silent complicity by non-participants who refuse to engage or confront it. There are weaker people out there looking for something to believe in and they latch onto things like this in a moment of weakness. It's not okay to waste other people's time and energy. The behavior reminds me a bit of problem politician the world is currently wrangling with.
Exit stage left ffs.
The other thing I'm so tired of is randos injecting themselves into the story hoping to become part of the historical record.

Itโs USD 4.110.000,- I wonder if Christies will also give (some of) its earnings to charity. What a pathetic sum of money ๐ Maybe pay Donald Trump to nรณt run for president.

Such a pathetic sum of money. So do you think Christieโs invest in a better life for mankind or just in themselves?
Edit: yes I thought so. Anyway just another person who laundered his money from dubious income. One canโt help wondering how auction houses are involved in such a scheme. I think we need someone like Truman Capote or Gรผnter Wallraff to bring that to light.

I see what you're saying. It's a disgusting amount of money to spend on art, unless that money is going to charity. And, how someone can have that kind of money is beyond me.

A leading worldwide operating auction house is no place for that. I donโt think itโs the auction house who does the money laundering. Itโs the person who made such money and pay for eg. art. Which is sold through auction houses who profit from it and therefore seem to have an interest in not turning the spotlights on it. Does anyone who pays such an amount have to deliver anything which tells them where that money came from?

How could anybody possibly know, maybe the buyer does a lot of good nobody knows about, you're just choosing to create a negative storyline without any facts. It is an obscene amount of money for any artwork but that's the world we live in. Where do you think a lot of the art comes from in museums? Ok so there will be benefits for those that loan the works but it means regular(not super wealthy) people get to view incredible artworks we would never have the opportunity to see and for free in most public museums(museums I've been to anyway).

For one, it would stop the spiteful comments from certain people who only come onto this forum (probably with duplicate accounts) to spread misinformation and try to stir things up. ๐
