The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by drip on Feb 22, 2024 14:00:59 GMT 1, I get that there are always variables to take into account when modern art pieces sell for so much, celebrity provenance, charitable considerations, mental illness, etc, etc. But whenever I see stuff like this, particularly with an artist like Banksy, I can't help but wonder what would happen if you approached Banksy and said, "Here's half a million, would you make me one, please?"
I mean, would the artist say no?

And if you already have his other works of art and are still waiting for the certificate, surely, you will be waiting for hundreds more new moons.
Obviously that's my opinion.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by loui on Feb 22, 2024 17:35:43 GMT 1, I would love it if the winning bidder was this person. For one, it would stop the spiteful comments from certain people who only come onto this forum (probably with duplicate accounts) to spread misinformation and try to stir things up. ๐ I honestly am very glad you are such an optimistic and friendly person whose posts are always considerate and caring for others. I can imagine someone approaching an artist saying โwould you make me oneโ and the artist saying โfor half a million I wouldโ, but when itโs the other way around, as an artist I would want prove to where that half a million came from just to make sure I wasnโt supporting any drugdealers- or money laundering schemes. When it sounds too good to be true, it mostly is too good to be true.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by Deleted on Feb 22, 2024 18:11:29 GMT 1, How could anybody possibly know, maybe the buyer does a lot of good nobody knows about, you're just choosing to create a negative storyline without any facts. It is an obscene amount of money for any artwork but that's the world we live in. Where do you think a lot of the art comes from in museums? Ok so there will be benefits for those that loan the works but it means regular(not super wealthy) people get to view incredible artworks we would never have the opportunity to see and for free in most public museums(museums I've been to anyway). Perhaps you are right though I have serious doubts about people who can spend over 1.5 million on art. It doesnโt look pure to me. I could introduce you to some really nice people who are capable of spending those sums on art and I could introduce you to equally nice people who couldn't afford to spend ยฃ250 on a picture. You can't judge a person buy how much/little money they spend on art any more than what clothes someone wears or what car they drive.
I've a friend whose a farmer, very quiet and assuming, he has shipping containers in a field behind his home filled with art. You wouldn't know it by looking at or talking to him. He prefers it that way, not to draw attention. Likewise there's people in debt trying to be perceived as wealthy(in a monetary/stuff sense) to try and impress people.

I was referring to the fact that he had a firm anti immigration stance and would probably be counted as a ultra nationalist.
In my head it somehow seemed a fitting choice of an avatar when bashing Banksy.
But I really don't wan't delve deeper here. Let's go back to the topic, which is Elton John's collection.
Cheers.

Which I find funny as Bill Gates and Madonna don't give a shit about Banksy whereas the lot of us, well, that's another story. I don't disagree with what you said, but it does make Banksy 'weak' in a respect. A bit whorish, to be honest. Love him, but he isn't running the tables in the scenario you depicted.
Drip: "Here's a half million I earned honestly through hard work and saving..."
Banksy: "NooOOooOOOoooOooooo. I only take money from people above your station..."
That'd make him a bit of a, how did I say in French? Oh yes, hole d'anus (double redundancy intended).
GDP was great fun for the twenty people who go hooked up.

Who Navalny?
Who in their right mind would want to immigrate to Russia? Is this a thing? The best Russia has ever been was when it was led by Tsars and Tsarinas and that's not saying a whole lot.
If this is true re: Navalny and anti-immigration, there really is no hope for Russia.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by drip on Feb 23, 2024 9:44:28 GMT 1, I get that there are always variables to take into account when modern art pieces sell for so much, celebrity provenance, charitable considerations, mental illness, etc, etc. But whenever I see stuff like this, particularly with an artist like Banksy, I can't help but wonder what would happen if you approached Banksy and said, "Here's half a million, would you make me one, please?" I mean, would the artist say no? If you or I asked then highly likely the answer would be no. If Madonna or Bill Gates asked then I expect he would. Anyone know whether it was ever confirmed that Banksy painted that portrait of Madonna for her birthday? Or was it just someone who said they were Banksy? I hope to see it some day.

The Collection of Sir Elton John: Opening Night, by drip on Feb 23, 2024 9:45:38 GMT 1, Very strange direction this forum is going. It's what happens when governments cut funding to mental health services. More people buy art.
