Storing of prints, by dmandpenfold on Nov 21, 2008 1:32:11 GMT 1, martindk these guys;
www.niksandnaks.co.uk/artfolders.html
Hi guys Youre the experts, I have a question. I am about to get a portfolio also, but here in Denmark, this archival stuff is kinda rare. However, I did find a seller with a mapac/artcare portfolio that holds 70x100cm sleeves. But I can only get normal 70x100cm sleeves, not archival. This means that they are not acid-free. So I think im gonna put a acid-free backingboard in each sleeve, then a tissuepaper over the front and back of the prints, would that be ok? I can get acid-free sleeves, but only A1 size, and I would like it to be a bit bigger. Hope you can help me, im about to order.

Storing of prints, by arcam on Dec 4, 2008 20:27:23 GMT 1, I've been looking at plan chests and the biggest issue is the size of them, they just take up a lot of room. Then I came across this, and it got me thinking if the draw was the width of the table it'd be perfect. A desk to work on and a draw with just enough space to store some of the more valuable prints.
Anyone come across something along those line?

Storing of prints, by kalm on May 23, 2011 15:17:37 GMT 1, I have a custom made wooden flat file with 4 draws that each hold way more that a full ream sheet....thing is HUGE...I also have a regular metal (tan) flat file like architects use...I am looking to sell that one if anyone around New England wants one.
GREAT advice on letting the print unfold naturally then flatten it out...i do this on expensive (to me) prints only as I have kids and animals that will do more damage....always wanted to get a thick sheet of plexiglass in different sizes to cover the entire print to flatten out evenly.

Storing of prints, by kalm on May 23, 2011 15:20:49 GMT 1, I always wondered if the made some sort of hard tube with a crevasse that you could start the roll of a print in and then rollup evenly to put in tube....this would keep the print evenly rolled it's entire travel life.
What's the proper way of rolling a print? Catching the roll is the hardest part! (w/out bending print)

Storing of prints, by mayhem on Jan 8, 2012 0:58:33 GMT 1, Hiya all. I am running out of space in my small flat to frame everything I own, I have removed prints when a new piece has priority, but still hope to reinstate them in the future when my square meterage improves. I am aware tubes are not best for storage other than short term. I am also aware there are good storage file's available ranging up to A0 in size. I would prefer to hang them all, at the same time, I would like to protect my prints while waiting for that moment. Can anyone recommend a good protective mobile portfolio with large area capacity. I am also at art college so its not just for storing prints, It will be used for transporting my own final works to and from Uni. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. Cornwall,UK based

this is what alot of sellers can't seem to get right when buying prints off ebay.
the proper way of rolling a print is laying the print on top of your kraft paper with the end of the craft paper folded a few inches into the print so it creates a small pocket for the print to lay in, then put a sheet of glassine paper into the pocket above the print (this prevents any rubbing of ink) then afterwards bend the edge toward the middle of the print so there's a big loop and slowly work your way in until it's tight enough to fit in your tube.
doing it this way prevents any roll marks that are often seen on prints and the glassine sheet protects the print from rubbing

Storing of prints, by spswim on Feb 5, 2013 15:44:04 GMT 1, Okay... I am still fairly new to the game, and so far all of my prints have been framed. I just purchased 3 more prints, and I am looking to properly store these while we decide what to frame and where to hang them.
I am based in the U.S. and I'm wanting to make sure I get the right sizes for folders and an art portfolio folder to keep them all in. Any help would be appreciated!
One of the print sizes doesn't seem to match the others in size... 24 in. x 28.75 in.
Thanks so much!

Storing of prints, by syprux on May 27, 2014 12:21:45 GMT 1, If someone from the board is from France and know a place where to buy those archival sleeves, please let me know. Thanks Wich ones? Actually, I have one Itoya Profolio 18" x 24" since 10 years and all my prints inside are well care.
I'm a newbie in archival process so I think I will be looking for the same things that Itoya does but with bigger size.
I found 24" x 36" Itoya sleeves which is good but my biggest print is Obama Superman by Brainwash 29"x41"....and till now, it is kept in his tube and I lack free space in my flat.
I had a look at the links you provide, Selwyns/Eye2Eye seems good but they don't have Acid Free Black mounting paper. Perhaps, the black paper is not mandatory...
It would be great if they had A0 size: Mapac
So , if someone in this board knows where to find those products in France, please let me know. Or I will order in UK.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

Does anyone know www.thepaperhousestafford.co.uk/ ? They are on the Bay as bargainartistshop. On their HP one could get a voucher for 20% off, but I was not able to find where to use the voucher. I mailed 10 days ago, but no answer at all.
They have A1 archival sleeves in PP, couldn't find a source in Germany for this size, only PVC.
Thanks

Storing of prints, by South Bound on Jun 21, 2014 3:00:00 GMT 1, Storing question for Shepard Fairey's "50 Shades Of Black" box set. I have over spent my budget so it is gonna be a bit before I can frame anything, let alone 50 prints. What is the best way to store the compilation? Should I store each separately in a portfolio or book? Or should I keep the entire set intact in all of it original packaging? Right now I have only opened once to verify the contents then repacked into the box it was shipped in and have it sitting safely in a pelican case (Ft Knox like security).
What would be the recommended storage solution? Especially since even when I have them framed, it will not be all 50.

Storing of prints, by iamzero on Jun 21, 2014 10:59:43 GMT 1, I recommend putting the entire contents into a ziplock plastic bag and hiding it and the bottom of a fish tank much like in A Fish Called Wanda. This way the burgliers won't find it and the damaging air that helps in fading prints can't get past the water to get to it. Please destroy this information once read.

Yeah but all of the prints are stacked on top of one another in a packet and I was not sure if this healthy for the prints for the long term... Since it would take me a long while to frame 50 prints

I have hung art in the bathroom before. Like you I anticipated that this might be problematic. As such I only ever put very low value pieces in there. Non were damaged. But it was a large room with a window. There must be a risk that prints will over time suffer damage. As such I would suggest only hanging pieces that are of low value too, and ones that you would not be too upset if they became damp or mouldy.
