Storing of prints, by highflyer on Mar 13, 2017 13:00:42 GMT 1, Hi, I would like to hang a print in my bathroom. I have a habitat glass frame and no mount. The room gets very streamy as there is no window. Please could anyone offer advice as to how best protect the print in this situation? Or is a very inadvisable and likely to damage? Thanks I have hung art in the bathroom before. Like you I anticipated that this might be problematic. As such I only ever put very low value pieces in there. Non were damaged. But it was a large room with a window. There must be a risk that prints will over time suffer damage. As such I would suggest only hanging pieces that are of low value too, and ones that you would not be too upset if they became damp or mouldy.
Ok thanks guys. That is helpful. Cheap print it is!

Storing of prints, by Vanessa Villegas Art Advisory on Apr 26, 2017 18:42:22 GMT 1, Hi guys. I've been thinking about buying an art folder to hold some prints. can you tell me where you got your art folders and how much they were? also, whats the best make? and how many prints can they hold? sorry for all the questions! cheers.
I've used this series before by Prestige. It is best to find a portfolio that is a binder and also zips closed. You can buy acid-free mylar sleeves to hold the prints. Unfortunately these kinds of folders don't really hold very large prints. In that case its best to invest in a flat file - or store them flat packed in glycine paper between 2 pieces of foam board.
Prestige Series on Amazon
I would ALWAYS recommend storing works on paper flat and NOT in a tube. When prints or artworks are rolled the inks & paints can crack and damage over time. Aside from that rolled prints would have to be flattened before framing them which means you might have to pay a restorer to flatten it. Save your self money by investing in a good storage system.

Storing of prints, by lecastor on Aug 21, 2017 7:44:24 GMT 1, What is everyone's / anyone's option on storing prints in toploaders. I found these one from BCW that are "archival"
www.bcwsupplies.com/type/toploader/20x24-topload-holder
They are super heavy duty, very thick.

Storing of prints, by GE on Oct 17, 2017 2:45:18 GMT 1, I have about 20 prints all in tubes and desperately need to get them flattened out after reading on here.
The largest I have is probably one meter squared.
What's the best sleeves I should use and where could I potentially get some this size?
Thanks in advance

Storing of prints, by rparducci on Nov 27, 2017 9:51:28 GMT 1, When you store a print in those archival sleeves with the acid free backing paper, do you keep the POW protection paper/the silk protective sheet between the image and the sleeve or not ? Any thoughts on that ?

It's a good idea to do so. If there is a little grit on the print or in the folder then it will scratch the print when you pull it in and out. Some acid free tissue paper will prevent this
It is not strictly necessary though as long g as the sleeve is acid free

Btw, question for flat file owners: do you put anything at the bottom of the drawer before placing your print? Some paper? If so, is it a problem to obstruct the small wholes that are there for aeration?
Thanks.

I was thinking of cutting mylar sheets ( i have a big roll i got for free from a company). thinking I may have to cut few holes here and there not to completly obstruct the holes.

Storing of prints, by thisisthesam on Jul 30, 2019 0:01:06 GMT 1, Hey guys,
Loads of prints but in tubes and want to start flattening them for framing...
So front foam board > acid free tissue paper > print facing up > (more tissue paper?) > back foam board.
The above sounds cool, but surely you won't be able to do that straight out the tube so what do you do? Take it out and let dust collect on it?
