UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by artepersfizio on Oct 16, 2017 0:13:27 GMT 1, Hello!
After a recent trip to the framer, they presented multiple framing options for floating a piece I own. Their best "conservation/archival" recommendation was to have the front actually touching the plexiglass, in order to keep the piece "flat". They claim it's inert properties and lack of temperature change will make it "safe" and not ruin the art over time. I've been warned that screen prints touching _glass_ can be dangerous, and the art can stick to the glass if temperature change happens.
Is their method safe? Do I have anything to worry about?
Thank you!

There should always be space between print and glass.
Find another framer

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by case on Nov 22, 2017 7:11:00 GMT 1, Hi all,
I`m having trouble to pick the right glass option for my Pejac Meadow which is at the framer right now. Actually I would like to frame it with an acrylic glass with UV protection, mainly because of the shatter resistance of this material. I do not want non-glare for various reasons.
When I dropped my print at the framer I was told the price for Tru Vue conservation clear UV float glass and that the acrylic version of it should be about the same price. Now that he started I received a call that the the acrylic version (Conservation clear acrylic) is double the price, meaning 350โฌ more than the float glass UV version ... which would be even more expensive than True Vue float Museum glass.
Is acrylic UV glass really that expensive? I know Optium is, but just with UV protection? Now I found Plexiglas with UV protection on Halbe Rahmen which seems to be way less expensive than what I was offered.
PLEXIGLASยฎ Gallery UV 100
www.halbe-rahmen.de/en/plexiglas?number=EG__3210210
Does anyone know if this glass would be a good option, too? What`s the difference to the Tru Vue conservation clear acrylic?
The print will be conservation framed (acid free material, Japanese hinges to float etc.) Will this glass match conservation framing or does it contain any bad material?

I'd check on Americaframe.com. You can order the UV acrylite directly from that site and it is probably cheaper than the framer.

Ie in natural light hold the framed picture horizontally in front of above waist height and move each side up and down and with uv you will see ripples in the glass in straight lines which are not there with normal glass.

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by Deleted on Feb 13, 2018 16:01:29 GMT 1, Obvious question but have you asked the framer who framed it, most framers use standard glass unless specifically asked. The ripple effect at an angle will work (as mentioned) with tru-vue although there are other options of UV glass which dont show that. You dont have to have a complete reframe, changing glass is a simple job for a framer, if youre in doubt take it to a framer to pop out the glass and check.

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by walfredo on Jun 21, 2018 17:24:39 GMT 1, quick question....
ive been on a framing run lately with a lot of new wall space. been using a local framer and have been getting a mix of museum glass for smaller pieces and plexi for larger less expensive pieces...
not sure if i am being tested for how much ill say 'yes' to...but i was quoted $750 for a piece of museum plexi around 27x45 (inches)....seems WAAAAY excessive...without the frame or anything.
any thoughts...i live in a well lite place and the regular plexi is an issue with the glare...so i was afraid of glass with the size and didnt want the glare.
generally happy with the framer...i was just in shock at the price

I agree with that. Down here Tru Vue is about 2.5 x what you get it for in the Uk. It is very much monopolised down here with only 2 companies that sell it to retailers and you can only buy it from them if you have a regerstered business number that is related to framing. I tried to buy some wholesale using a friends company, but because the business was not art or framing related they said no.. (bastards)

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by Inknart on Jun 23, 2018 18:34:15 GMT 1, To me it depends on image, what it's worth, where it will be displayed.
Most of the time for prints sub $1000 I'll frame with just UV glass.
There are certain prints displayed where light will constantly hit where museum is needed to see the image during the day.
I really need to swap out a couple in my home to museum due to glare, but it's just so expensive now to replace the glass.
Took my insect to get framed and it was 200 more to go Museum over just UV taking it from 600 to closer $800, which I did for the sole reason of the amount of detail/glitter. I would kick myself if this one was obstructed by glare.
I rarely go museum plexi unless the frame is just too big for glass. I did this with my Katrin Fridriks Gene and Ethics which is basically 5'x5'.
