With such a HUUUGE wall space, why would he use such a weak message/ concept?
this looks like an ad campaign using one of his older ideas.
Why would Banksy deliberately try and upstage Laz's show?
Is this Banksy moving more in to the "Brand" and less into the message?
are we seeing the "Vegas" Elvis effect here?
My mind mind is beginning to think it is by Banksy,
My heart is hoping it isn't.

Banksy Rat Mural in NYC - New York, by dslug on Sept 28, 2008 0:03:26 GMT 1, I was there about 2 hours ago and work is still ongoing.I met the signwriters too,actually I was just about to bribe the car park attendant to turn a blind eye while I nicked one of the sketches off the elevator platform until I noticed the 2 guys with paint splatters standing way back looking at it.I have a photo on my phone which I will try to load in a sec.
The signwriters said they were under instruction to return the sketches.

I asked them if it was anything to do with Banksy or Laz and they were pretty cagey about the who's and why's and whatnot.
They gave me the impression that it was to do with something bigger!! - whatever that means... 
I got some more pics if you want me to post 'em!!

Fact of the matter: if Banksy isn't up on that wall painting himself, then let's not call it a "BANKSY." If Banksy isn't doing this himself, then how is it any different than me downloading one of his stencils and spray-painting it on a wall myself? Fair point. Although, you could argue that the actual art is the creation of the idea. How it is then transposed becomes irrelevant. If this were a massive Nike advertisement (like the one shown on the colossal media website) is it still a Nike advertisement even thought Phil Knight isn't out there painting it or is it a copy of a Nike advertisement? This is an advertisement for Banksy (as is all of his street work). I see no problem with him commissioning this work to be done. I don't see why anyone should. It in no way lessens the creative value of the art. Ironically, this is a painting of a rat painting itself. Self-recognition is considered the highest form of intelligence. anyone else understand this irony?! By Banksy not painting this piece he references the art and the situation. The whole concept can therefore be considered a Banksy art project.

Nice to see this on a wall that can't be removed like some of the ones in New Orleans were. I'd rather see them painted over than hacked up.

Sorry, I stand to correct myself and I apologize, I read a previous thread wrong. There is an article talking about all these pop images showing up in NYC and they said it seemed like Banksy. Romany, then corrected them on another thread and said it was MBW; and I thought you knew that b/c you were in NY doing photojournalism for the LAZ show; I read wrong and my apologies Romany. guess I got a lit too excited about the possibility of a new Banksy.!
