Mr. Brainwash's work is laughably terrible!!! Part of me wishes Banksy or Mr. Thierry Guetta came out and said this was a big hoax / ruse to show the ridiculousness of the art world. Unfortunately this won't happen because we have a wannabe film-maker, who is a wealthy LA property owner, who is related to a street artist and thus had behind-the-scene access to the scene - decide he's going to have a go at being a street/urban artist. And the crazy thing is - it kinda worked. If you are a person buying one of his originals - I truly am embarrassed for you and if your 'art' (and I use that term beyond lightly) piece is worth anything in a few years time - I will eat my hat. For those people who lined up for a free Mr. Brainwash print I really wish to never see your art collections. What Mr. Brainwash proves to us is that if you have enough money/backing, produce something derivative enough to appeal to the layman, and put a massive PR/Marketing machine at work - you can manipulate the public. Please recall what Banksy actually said... "Mr. Brainwash is a force of natureโฆ and I don't mean that in a good way."

I thought the art displayed was absolutely incredible, the images of Keith Haring, Jim Morrison and Walter Disney were great. It did lack originality and or creativity and you could tell that he drew a lot of inspiration from past artists but his use of broken vinyls and incorporating images of a disguised Banksy were refreshing to see. I feel like I am the only person who thought the show was awesome but I wanted to be honest for those who have only had the chance to listen second hand information - but I was there and whoever the human is behind Mr. Brainwash they might lack in the originality department but they definitely are talented.

For the avoidance of doubt I thought it was all pretty derivative and uninteresting - but I wouldn't go as far in condemning it as some. And whatever else you might say a lot of pieces had orange stickers next to them - whether that's just more hype or they had actually sold I can't say but it would be a bold move (and arguably misrepresentation) to claim sales which don't exist.
