Mr Brainwash Show ICONS New York 2010, by Drymounted on Nov 30, 2009 4:27:31 GMT 1, I checked my mail to see if any mail was sent via the mailing list, and nothing ever arrived. Where'd you get the info on this? I think I'll make the trip with my wife cross country to check it out for my birthday.

75K US. Whether you like the guy or not, he is pretty big in the states. Pulling off a showing at the Opera Gallery is no easy feat. Celebs love the guy.... think he is cool

Mr Brainwash Show ICONS New York 2010, by bs on Dec 24, 2009 1:54:06 GMT 1, haha - ye,each to their own for sure, i think hype has obviously helped him out a lot and best of luck to the guy - you have to respect how highly he is held by many- i just do not see much to his work, just straight off stencils from reference pictures and not much else - but thats just my opinion
Saying that though i can very much see it appealing to a certain market, very commercial, very housewife friendly and without sounding like a nob, the un educated art buyer (by no way am i putting you in that bracket cadeallaw) And as I have heard on more than one occasion, normally the lady has the final say about what goes on the walls, though i have been told i am too commercial more than once before so maybe not the best person to say so,lol

It's precisely this sort of thinking and panic buying that fuels shit like this actually selling! Saddens me that sales are based on profit and speculation and not merit. As if any further evidence is needed that the art world is truly full of manipulation, sheep buyers and emporer's new clothes!
I struggle to see how anyone could defend his output as having any quality at all, it's like a GCSE student's attempt to be the next Banksy or something. Or is it purposely shit as some sort of ironic statement?
Fair play to him though, at least his marketing is spot on, he is obviously making vast amounts of greenbacks.

Mr Brainwash Show ICONS New York 2010, by cadeallaw on Dec 24, 2009 14:25:29 GMT 1, ::yawn:: I honestly find his work better than about 75% of the work I see on this forum. Furthermore, his production value in his prints... ah forget it, I say the same stuff every time.
Once again, like it or not, it all breaks down to person taste. What I find interesting is how bitter people get when it comes to Mr. Brainwash's success.
Ben Slow: No offense taken, I dig some of your work as well. I first got turned on to it by that show that you did with Grafter about a year ago... good stuff.

lol i for one am most definitely bitter at his success, there are countless artists that deserve the recognition so much more than he does. i bought some of his early prints so im not exactly weeping over how well he's doing but yeah i guess i gave the art world more credit than being fooled by this guy when there are so many better options available.

Mr Brainwash Show ICONS New York 2010, by Wearology on Dec 24, 2009 16:31:00 GMT 1, I liked the old days when if I liked a piece of art and it was affordable I would just buy it. Now I need to ask myself is it family friendly, will my wife like it and I have had to pass on a lot of pieces over the years.

Which of these three would you be able hang up?: 1) Jonathan Weiner Viner-
2) Michael Hussar-
3) David Choe-
I think Hussar would go perfectly in a nursery
