the art memories thread is a good one, but the problem is with them is that its like talking to an excited version of charlie from big brother....you say something then someone comes straight back with something like 'yeah, but mine is...'

I still believe there are lots of very honest and interesting people on here who contribute massively, who are in it for the art and not the money, I just think some are just trying to play catch up, as most aspire to own Banksy's but given that they have missed the boat when they were for sale at cost, are just trading up in order to get to these pieces, albeit they are doing it in a crude manner.

I was with Lesbian, Stuey, Cracka last week and yes I would agree their return would bring much needed experience and expertise on here, that is Silky's call after all.

Perhaps Silky can offer some sort of amnesty and invite these members to rejoin

Snakes, while I'm a fairly new poster myself, I'd been lurking a while before that and I also find there are proportionally less informative threads and an ever-growing focus on price-trends, which is of course a strong indicator of who makes up a lot of the forum these days.

Personally I think that it's a problem which is complicated for Silky to resolve, even if he were so inclined. The forum seems to cater mostly these days, to those buying art, based purely on the latest fads, in order to profit and/or flip. While Silky has the "power" to change the way things work, firstly it may conflict with other interests of his, by resulting in lower usage stats for the site and secondly, it would play right into the hands of all those forever looking to label him a facist dictator!

I can't comment on the absence of most of those you name or why they aren't around, as I am too new to have known any of them well or the pertinent circumstances leading to their departures. I have felt Stuey's choice to leave was a negative result for the forum however, as I learned much from conversations he was involved in over the past 10 months.

What do you feel can be done to deter the flippers and profiteers and attract more knowledgable contributors and genuine art lovers? Are there any implementable "solutions" or is this just the natural evolution of a scene becoming more commercial/mainstream in nature? What do you think?

personally, i think that because silky is the man in charge, that he feels that he has to remain sometimes neutral, instead of giving some new members a kick up the arse
