When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by mido on Dec 29, 2006 0:48:03 GMT 1, In general I agree.
1) It's a very disengenuous argument.
It's the same one people use to justify fuelling the housing market, having two (or more) houses, and especially the 'buy to let' market, when in reality loads of people cannot even afford to have their own house, which is a very basic human need.
if that is an example to 'capitalism in motion' then they can shove it up their arse.
2) The HUGE difference with this particular print is also that Banksy did it all for charity. End of story.
P.S. - I was working in a dead end, back breaking job that day, like many 'normal' people
People who buy for resale give people like you (out of london) a chance of owning one, the more people who buy for resale the cheaper you will be able to get it for. You ae lucky people lined up from 6 am - now you have a chance. if 1000 people lines up all with the intention of putting on their walls you would miss out!!! hurts but the truth deal with it Now that is a gift indeed, being able to talk out your ass in such a clear fashion. Aimless if it wasn't for arseholes queuing from 6 in the morning to buy the prints for resale, then they wouldn't have sold out at all, and been readily available on POW / electric sheep etc.... and at the price they were ment to be sold at rather than the jumped up extortion that passes for resale prices. Please dont be too shocked when true fans and collectors dont get down on bended knee and and kiss the ground you walk on due to your ability to go to a shop, buy something then sell it to someone who will appreciate it for 5 times the price.

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by gbh on Dec 29, 2006 1:01:13 GMT 1, ignorance. simple as that. It won't be clear to many people that (unless we are sudden;y told otherwise) it has nothing to do with POW/banksy. it's all quite funny in that respect. think of the fun POW/Mr B could have at our expense now (cf, can't believe that morons but this s**t). they could release stuff under other names, other sites, they could wander around Shoreditch leaving prints/flyers etc lying around, they could have different artists releasing work that is actually done by others (see if it sells..) ....they could do almost anything, and stand back and see what happens... Just don't understand , simple photocopied paper with a design any one can do in a few hours , don't understand it at all £250 ? for a flyer that has nothing to do with Banksy (are we all missing something? ,or is it just me ? seems totally insane to me but if someone can enlighten me great
thought has crossed my mind many times. Rumours have abounded (?, is that a word) in the past as well.
Anyway, anyone got any thoughts on MWY?

I'm not assuming it's a Banksy, I think that would be pretty foolhardy, particularly if you're going to part with hundreds of pounds.

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by gordy on Dec 29, 2006 12:49:36 GMT 1, Just thought I would post my limited edition 'Dead Sid postcard'!!!;D ;D
I am storing this flat and in acid free paper!!
Has anyone got a Jimi Or Elvis? ;D ;D I wonder what all three together would be worth
Maybe it is the way forward as I certainly can't afford the prints!!
Collectable Banksy cards or even a special edition Contemporary artist's Top Trumps or even best of all - a panini sticker album!!
I am off to the bank to get a business loan as we speak!! ;D

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by ABC on Dec 29, 2006 15:09:42 GMT 1, Not sure if they printed all three but they sure stuck one in with a print for me the otherday. Wouldnt say they were that limited as POW seem to have loads of them as they do with most postcards at the moment.

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by corblimeylimey on Dec 30, 2006 16:17:13 GMT 1, Even if it was a Banksy I don't think it's worth over £100, it's just an A6 postcard.
This is the point isn't it, if it's not a Banksy, who would pay over £10 for it? is it being bought because people like the image or because they think it's Banksy's work?
Someones playing a game here, I'd rather not get involved.

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by romanywg on Dec 30, 2006 17:08:16 GMT 1, Would it change peoples minds if it were a Banksy and from an edition of only 100? The answer is 'Yes it would'. Do you really think that 100% of the people collect Banksy because they really love it or because it's fashionable and will go up in price?

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by juliecat on Dec 31, 2006 18:55:25 GMT 1, been thinking about his a bit over xmas. what's the motivation for handing out this print? You can argue that it's a spoof, a gag, a dig at the way that Banksy has been co-opted by the market place.
However, to produce this image took some graft, some talent and effort. It also meant sourcing the paper (which is quite nice) and arranging some kind of printing process. This is a helluva a lot of palaver to go to, in order to have a dig at a 100 people in a queue on a cold monday morning in london. I'm speculating wildly here of course but from this I suggest only 2 reasonalble reasons this happened. One is already mentioned creation of your own market, hold some back, let speculation and interest mount, and then release dribs and drabs yourself over ebay. The second, is that this flyer is connected to banksy in some way.

but it does seem an awful lot of effort to go to, without the person having to fess-up' at some point to claim their 15 minutes worth.

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by ABC on Dec 31, 2006 23:11:14 GMT 1, So it could or could not be a banksy, yes and no??? Who cares whos done it, its a screen printed postcard. Its similar to the christmas cards that FAILE included with the prints, they are a nice thing to own and are very nice quality but they were handouts at the end of the day yet still people are listing them on the bay for over £35, if people keep paying for these types of things then they will always be listed for a quick buck.

Maybe the artist doesn't want the 15 minutes worth. Or maybe the artist just liked the spirit of SG, the craziness at people lining up for a print (I whole-heartedly would have been one if I lived near London),
While I can't say definitively - my sources tell me it wasn't Banksy.

When I grow up I want to have as much money as Ban, by Daniel Silk on Jan 1, 2007 21:38:22 GMT 1, I live in Dorset and I have been very ill recently so traveling up to London to get the Banksy Flag print was just too much for me so I missed out America was also a little too far for me to travel to get the LA prints, but I don't hold anything against those that did travel, and did get the prints, good luck to them! I don't care if they hang them on the wall or sell them on ebay, why would that bother me? jealousy? Well, perhaps not jealousy or any other reason for you personally, but for many others, I think the reason is 'unaffordability'... and I mean this in all due respect to everyone out there, of course. I see merits in both sides of the argument, but also think the people who don't feel the 'pinch' from baggers/scalpers are those who either a) can afford the eBay prices and don't mind paying them; or b) don't really care much about the print(s) in question. Conversely, the only people who can feel the bagger/scalper 'pinch' are those who could have gotten a print that they *really* wanted at a price that was within their reach, but for whatever reasons beyond their control, were deprived of that opportunity... and it's basically the end of the road for them because they cannot afford the crazy eBay prices. So basically, this debate can go on and on, and few people will ever get convinced of the respective counterarguments. You won't know how it feels to be on another side unless you've been there yourself, which not everyone will have a chance to do... a guy will never know what it feels like to have a 'female love orifice', just as a woman will never know what it feels like to walk around with something hanging between your legs So I propose that everybody simply acknowledge the existence of each side, realize that there are members on here who belong to the other side of the argument, empathize as best as as possible, and be tactful and civil to each other. Stop trying to convince each other that the position you may be in is the 'correct' one, 'cos we've already seen that it won't work. Just look at the world today. (Yes, I still have all these residual sappy holiday 'love and peace' crap stuck on me) ;D
Good point! ;D
I dont think we can really lay this one to rest coz we are all coming at this from such different angles
;D
