Price Crash Who Cares???, by pezlow on Aug 22, 2007 16:33:36 GMT 1, I don't think my thread was antagonizing but was simply an expression of what I believe and what it appears a lot of other people are thinking. But you are right, engaging in this debate is only prolonging it so maybe I should stop posting on this subject.
I don't disagree with any of the endless proletysing that you, bobby and others seem to engage in on this topic. My point was it just doesn't interest me and is, frankly, boring.

See you in other threads. ;D
Edit: anthony I gave you +1 yesterday (Silky can veryify), but that's just because I thought your avatar was a picture of yourself and I liked it.

Price Crash Who Cares???, by doughy on Aug 22, 2007 16:48:53 GMT 1, All I can say is "what goes around comes around".
every 5-10 years the cycle will go full circle, prices go back up, everybody is happy apart from the losers.
I see it in the commercial screenprint print industry too, every 4-5 years.
Nuff said.

Price Crash Who Cares???, by Yessir on Aug 22, 2007 16:50:10 GMT 1, If you don't want to talk about the economics of the art then don't read the thread and especially don't start an antagonizing thread about the whole issue either. And if you think world economics doesn't have anything to do with how much you're going to have to pay for art then that's fine too. I don't care. But the reason there's so much talk about the economics is because the economics is so absurdly out of line with reality and until that changes it's going to be a hot button issue. But like it or not Banksy prints are a new form of currency and as of now it's the hype that's driving these markets not the art on the paper. As evidenced by the mindless drones who endlessly que up in lines or pound websites to buy new prints even when they don't know what they're buying until they've paid for it. It's all madness.
dgb133 please don't take this question the wrong way, NO OFFENSE is intended.
Why do you honestly come into this forum?
I come into this forum because I honestly Love GOOD ART and I enjoy discussing ART and ARTISTS with different people....
I also go into CAR forums, where I enjoy discussing CARS and I occasionally go into a MUSIC forum, where I enjoy discussing MUSIC.
neg- me if you want ( I have no faith in the Karma system).
But an honest answer would be welcomed.

Price Crash Who Cares???, by dgb133 on Aug 22, 2007 16:59:02 GMT 1, I didn't mean that Pez's response was antagonizing per se. What I do find antagonizing is the disconnect between the amount of people claiming that they don't care about the value of the art yet whenever anyone lists a Banksy print for sale on this forum, they keep asking for more and more money and the constant claims by people that already own Banksy prints that they will endlessly go up in price year after year day after day. When the day comes that you have to sell your Banksy then tell me you don't care about it's value or sell it to me at cost.

Price Crash Who Cares???, by reznyce on Aug 22, 2007 17:17:12 GMT 1, Here's what I think if anyone cares. I actually don't think there will be a "crash." Although there will be ups and downs, there will be no crash. Why? Because of the involvement of some big money players who will make sure the madness continues. In the past year alone, many galleries and dealers have entered the "street art" scene. A crash would mean that they would have to find another way to make a living. So what will they do? They will make sure th, at there is no crash by carefully controlling and manipulating the supply and creating hype. Unlike the stock market, ther eis no regulation of this industry. So, basically a gallery can pretend to release an edition of 100 of hot artist "x" when in reality it is holding onto 50 prints. The edition sells out in seconds and a hype is created. Then the gallery, through proxies, will sell the other 50 prints on eBay at inflated prices. You and I will fall for it and the madness will continue. This is just one example. There is no government agency monitoring such activities. Furthermore, many of these gallery owners and dealers have made a lot of money and connections. They will continue to "hype" or promote artists through their contacts in well-respected publications. In short, too many big shots are now involved. They will make sure the madness will continue. The only thing that may lead to a crash is talk of a crash. This is just my opinion - feel free to p*ss on it.

If you don't care - sell all your prints at cost that you don't really like that much.
No?
Then you care.

Price Crash Who Cares???, by ctc2 on Aug 23, 2007 2:26:54 GMT 1, All I know is that these pieces of paper are not worth what people are paying for them and they are not worth going broke for, going into debt for, doing without for or spending your life infront of a computer for. Having something that is in demand makes us all feel special. I submit that this is what all of this is really about.

Don't you get a better feeling by going against the tide? like buying music that you like but others haven't heard of, or finding an artist that you like but hasn't hit it big yet.

I REALLY LIKE MY KWAN BY AMP, O.K. so you don't, and yes he's not as famous as Banksy, and yes it's not worth lots of money (only cost £35) but none of that matters, it's filling a 500mm x 500mm space on the wall VERY NICEY THANKYOU

Only following the 'big hitters' is like only liking what's in the top 10 music charts, they'll be the only one's that'll be publicly reconisable in the future, how shallow is that?

false. if you came into a bit of money or you had saved up for ages and spent £1000 on an unsigned banksy and then next year it was worth around £300 you would care. you'd be mad not to.
a very high percentage of these prints are stored in folders under beds - all these people care.
a little over a year ago we were on here laughing about how how napalm, love rat and virgin mary had taken years to sell. if there came on sell now lets be honest if any of us had the the oppotunity to buy one for £75 we would because of what it's value is.
the way i see it is i like having a few prints on my walls. i could sell them and make a few grand but what am i gonna spend the money on? more prints because thats what i enjoy. i.e. it's pointless selling them but if they were worth 50p tommorrow i might regret it.
