Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by romanywg on May 27, 2008 9:12:51 GMT 1, I tend to agree with you. Only outstanding piece IMO is the Spok. I could quite easily walk past the El Tono and Nuria thinking they were left overs from a street fair. Very poor.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by eddiedangerous on May 27, 2008 9:28:50 GMT 1, I took the Tate's walking tour on Saturday, and a thoroughly enjoyable stroll it was too... taking you through parts of London you'd likely never otherwise visit. It reminded me of when I recreated Bill Dummond's walks in '45' where he wrote his name 'BILL' on a page of the A to Z, then followed the course of his name as best he could. It's very interesting finding unseen alleyways, churches, building sites & greens. This seemed rather out of place in darkest South London:
bill drummond 45 is probably my favourite book of the last 10 years. he is an incredible writer.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by pisspoorenglish on May 27, 2008 12:24:43 GMT 1, Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right bit first off and hope you all don't mind.
I've been looking for graffiti/street art blogs, sites & forums over past week or so 'cos I want to put ask a question to people who are actively blogging about graffiti. And to people who are out there doing it.
I've posted about it on my blog > pisspoorenglish.wordpress.com/
Basically, I'm looking for feedback on an idea. I work as a copywriter. One of our clients is sponsoring the graffiti exhibition at Tate. As a way of promoting the exhibition and graffiti in the UK (and obviously the client gets an audience by sponsoring it) I was thinking about other possibilities.
One I liked the sound of is to get 4 or 5 well known UK writers to talk about the scene and in particular, about up-coming young writers in the UK.
So, would you, as a blogger/artist/writer etc be interested in seeing like a one off temporary blog/site where 4 or 5 known writers would discuss things, answer questions?
The ultimate aim would be to give some exposure to young writers. Perhaps with the pay-off being that the 'panel' select one writer as the one to watch for 2008/2009 or whatever. And then we'd try to get this young writer invovled at the Tate somehow.
Maybe get some of their work down there, or host something outside the Tate in conjuction with the exhibition.
Any thoughts appreciated...just interms of whether you'd be interested in it? could it work?
cheers

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by bankruptcreative on May 27, 2008 17:42:39 GMT 1, I think anything that promotes discussion, and helps up and coming artists is great. As with anything relating to this scene and commercial involvement you might get some flames... but people will still be talking about it...
Additionally it would probably speak to a broader audience, and encourage those just starting to hear about street art through recent publicity and large events to look into it further.
So yes, I think it is a great idea

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by pisspoorenglish on May 28, 2008 11:31:29 GMT 1, Thanks for the feedback bankruptcreative.
As you say, helping street art reach a broader audience and to help that audience understand it, would be the big benefit to 'scene' if you like.
Any one else?
When I say 'writers needed', I mean guys actively involved in graffiti of course. I need your opinons.
For example , who are the top UK writers? Banksy aside. What are the chances of these types of people looking favourably on something like this?
Cheers for any comments forthcoming...

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by GimmeStreet on May 29, 2008 16:21:03 GMT 1, Popped down at lunch time today
There were MASSIVE crowds of tourists all snapping away on their camera phones
I asked a policeman who looked like he was trying to keep the order what he thought of it all and he said he really liked it.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Deleted on Jul 3, 2008 18:56:49 GMT 1, interesting list of artists to showcase...i could probably think of a few more to include
www.tate.org.uk/shop/product.do?id=34625
Street art is a global phenomenon, one of the most popular and hotly discussed areas of art-making on the contemporary scene. Developing out of the graffiti tradition of the 1980s it has now reached the mainstream through the work of artists like Banksy and Futura 2000, becoming the subject of best-selling books and commanding high prices at auction. Cedar Lewisohn has written the first account of this visual revolution to trace its history from cave painting through to the vibrant art emerging today on the walls of London, Madrid and Sao Paolo, via Brassai's photographs of 1920s Paris and Basquiat and Haring's New York. Superbly illustrated with over 120 colour photographs of street art from around the world, the book includes interviews with leading street art proponents of the last three decades, including Henry Chalfant, Lady Pink, Lee Quinones, Blek le Rat, Goldie, Mode 2, Barry McGee (Twist), Shephard Fairey (Obey), Futura 2000, Malcolm McClaren and Os Gemeos, taking the reader behind their "tags" to encounter the often mysterious figures who are transforming cities across the globe.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Ruso on Jul 6, 2008 15:18:23 GMT 1, Yeh, I took a train up to see this last week. Asolutely fantastic! Ive always been a fan, but have only ever seen a few peices in the flesh, this was amazing. The canvas work was great, but there where alot of sculptures (which i didn't know he did) in there asweel. And although a few of the scupltures where un impressive, alot where really great. I reccomend to everyone!
