Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by Pattycakes on Nov 24, 2008 11:52:22 GMT 1, I think certainly Swoon will have a good chance in NY, am pretty sure that the Moma print collection has bought a fair few works. I was at a screening last week for a new American short film made by a couple of mega US print collectors. It was essentially a guide to prints and prinmaking for institutions, schools etc, the Contemporary printmakers featured - Kiki Smith and Swoon.
To be honest I am not sure about the rest, the Tate as far as I am aware hasn't bought any original street art, and they do not buy prints in any real quantity (in fact Sir Nicholas is really rather anti prints hence how hard it is to get to their print rooms to see anything in the collection) So Any urban art it were to exhibit would have to be donated - this will be a long way off for sure, unless Banksy is feeling generous.
Curiously I think that the UK institution most likely to mount some sort of print exhibit, and perhaps add to its permanent collection is the British Museum. They, whilst being a small and slightly old fashioned print rooms, are the most innovative and interesting when it comes to print acquisitions and exhibitions.

Tate Modern ๐ฌ๐ง London, by remirough on Nov 24, 2008 17:15:51 GMT 1, As i was walking around Tate Modern yesterday, admiring some fantastic art, I got to thinking, which of our artists we discuss on this forum will have work exhibited at the Tate collection in the future. Banksy? Faile?
Dondi White, Futura, Blu, Os Gemeos, Kinsey, Crash
the rest of them have years to pay in dues before they can even be considered. I'm even iffy about Blu tbh, but he was apparently the best of the artists to deal with or so I heard.

Yeah, I think Dan Baldwin is certainly an artist that you would think is gonna appeal to the Tate even more than all the others really.

I dunno I would just think Dans work is gonna appeal more to the people that make the decisions on what the Tate buys, rather than the more Street/Graffiti artists. Maybe Dans work would be a good step for the Tate to take now, and some of the other artists a bit further down the line.

You might be right Silky, only time will tell, do you know when they buy (i.e. every Jan?) and do they buy direct from artist or from the secondary market?
