Bucket list, by Trevorm on May 16, 2014 16:27:42 GMT 1, Kind of you to offer Johnny and I'll certainly take you up on it should I commit (not to mention some other folk on here  Would certainly be a lot of trainingโฆ earliest I could do it now would be next summer but more likely the summer after - got quite proficient at swimming whilst training for my Ironman races and ended up being half decent with or without wetsuit. But that's only 2.5 miles, not 30 miles (the distance you swim due to currents)! And definitely no wetsuit. Channel swimming is one of the last great feats of human endurance that is still much the same as it was when Captain Webb swam across. It's a bloody tough day at the office. Three times as many people have summited Everest as have swum the Channel and, over the 150 years people have been doing it, the failure rate is 70%. But that's what challenges and bucket lists are about, right? Does this feel like I'm talking myself into it? Certainly does.
+ there's another ยฃ100 for your charity from me if you manage it

Joke of the day, by Trevorm on Apr 28, 2014 14:49:19 GMT 1, I was clearing away a couple of boxes of old photo's and stuff from my late parents house the other week when I found a repair stub for a pair of leather shoes that was dated 1959. I kind of recalled that the shop, in Blackheath village was still there, and thought that the current owner(s) might be interested in having the old stub back - some 55 years later - as a piece of memorabilia.
So I popped into Blackheath last Saturday, parked the Bentley, and went into the shop:
"Hello" I say to the old guy behind the counter "I've got this repair ticket for you"
He takes the stub, looks at it and goes through to the back of the shop. Comes back 2 minutes later and grunts ..... "They'll be ready, Thursday"

Prints lumber along in the wake, so to speak, of the originals - but seem to be increasing in value and manty is spot on the money with the GR - I've just been offered a five figure sum for mine.
Also look out for future astronomic prices for 'damaged' S&S's. (I've got one of these too)

I'll get on the case and have a trawl round Hatton Garden next week perhaps.
Having built up a, to me, decent sort of collection of some urban art I've had to invest in a Burglar alarm (Mrs M insisted) + an all singing and dancing insurance policy in case it all gets 'knocked off' or goes up in smoke.
Then there's the 427cu in AC Cobra (I wish)
